Introduction
The Scottish Planning System which is established through legislation is in place to make decisions about future development and use of land in our towns, cities and countryside. It is a new devolved and evolving system for the preparation of plans and policies which guide the future development in Scotland. The overall aim is to be efficient, inclusive, fit for purpose and sustainable. The key client groups are the members of the public and developers and the key elements are preparing the plans and policies, enforcing the plans and policies.
Within my report I am going to cover the following topics as shown below.
• How does the Scottish planning system attempt to involve the public in its processes?
• What, in your view, are the strengths and weaknesses of these procedures?
• What measures would you recommend to alter the scope for public influence in planning?
• What is your justification for each recommendation?
