"The rights of persons, and the rights of property are the objects, for the protection of which Government was instituted." ~James Madison. The cost of the supplies used to make our history books has sky-rocketed. Some think that the War of 1812, also known as the Forgotten War, should be taken out of the history books to save money. Based on what I know and what I have researched, the War of 18122 should stay in our history books. To clarify my statement, Great Britain was no longer a threat, our national pride was restored after the war, and very important heroes emerged from the war. First of all, America showed that Great Britain was no longer a threat to the young country. By winning our second war with them, it showed that even a new and unexperienced country can defeat the best army of that time. Adding to that, the War of 1812 is commonly known as our second war of independence. We became even more independent when our National Anthem was written after the bombing of Fort McHenry. Although the British might've burned now many of our capital buildings, including the White House, we were able to rebuild and we even restored our trade. Trade and impressment were some of the biggest reasons why we were at war and in the end, we could trade …show more content…
By winning the war we were able to show the strength and determination of our country. One thing that showed our strength and determination was the bombing of Fort McHenry. To explain, after many hours of bombing, the huge American flag still waved above Fort McHenry. It was only able to wave because brave men held the flag up as if to tell the British that even if they knock down our flag and our people, we will never give up. You can't forget the Battle of New Orleans. The message from the battle of New Orleans basically says that a small country, such as the United States, can defeat a large army if they have the
On the river of United States history, there are many remarkable war to help United States earn its independence. Though the wars which happened during the Independence Wars were important in winning the independence back to the United States, there were still two battles very significant among all the battles: the Battles of Lexington and Concord. They connected with each other and made big effects to the whole United States. The reason of the battle of Lexington and Concord was the most critical war of the American Revolution is that it showed all the foreign countries that the Americans were not only willing to fight for their freedom, but they would be willing to die for their nation. Americans have the faith and the power of their
The war of independence was fought from 1775-1782. In the beginning, it was largely believed that Britain would be successful. However, the Americans proved to be victorious in the end, overcoming many challenges that were thrown their way. The biggest threat to their independence was simply the strength of the British.
We also stood up to Britain and showed them that we aren’t just a part of Britain during Passchendaele, our prime minister told the British governor that we would leave if he didn’t pull back the troops like we had asked before, since that would have saved a lot of casualties. We had also proved our military strength/bravery when we didn’t run away after the chlorine gas was released, we had stayed and held the line. It was said that without us, the war would’ve lasted longer than it
The British were able to stop the Americans, winning the
So the war of 1812 is called the forgotten war I’m not really sure why though. So I don’t exactly know why I’m typing an essay on this but what I do know is that we had to study this war and decide if it should be in the history books or not. In my opinion I think the forgotten war should be in the history books because it’s a really interesting war and an important one to. It has a lot of events in it that have happened.
In my opinion The War of 1812 is often called the “Forgotten War” because of the issues that we’re faced during it. Also in my opinion the United States government would have rather forgotten this war because it was a shameful time for the government as a whole. Another thing about the “Forgotten War” is that it was extremely costly for the United States Government because “the British burnt down the White House, the Capitol, and other government buildings” (Shultz 2010). Yet, the War of 1812 or the “Forgotten War” was not only a shameful or negative part of history it also had a few good things that came from the War.
There is many things about the War of 1812 that Americans should know today. Although the name can be very deceiving, the war lasted a total of thirty-two months, not just a year. The famous Star Spangled banner was written by Francis Scott Key during this war. Although Americans have listened to this anthem hundreds of times, many probably don't realize that Key was literal when describing "rockets' red glare" and "bombs bursting in air". Americans should realize that Key literally described what he was witnessing.
Although Britain won the war, the Americans used the defeat as fuel for the future. Despite Great Britain's victory the colonists were only angered more with what the war brought in the form of taxation and other annoyances Another thing to consider was that the war considerably weakened Britain not much as weakening the army and soldiers, but their economy. As a result, when the colonists would threaten Britain with boycotts threats it was very effective and powerful eventually leading to the American Revolution. The French also saw an opportunity to further weaken the British and so they helped the Americans with their Navy and money.
After the victory, Britain had an abundance of territories to control. War is extremely expensive and Britain was in debt. Today, America also in debt because of the War effort and the amount is approximately $16.3 Trillion. It all began with Britain was enacting legislation that was imposed on the colonists both economic and political in an effort to raise revenue to pay their debt. There were enforcements of the Navigation Laws, Proclamation act of 1763s, Quartering Act of 1765 and the famous Stamp Act of 1765.
The American Revolution is one of the most, if not the most, important wars the Americans have ever fought. This war meant independence for America or to be exploited for their resources by authoritative Britain. With the victory, the Americans earned their right to become their own independent and sovereign states. However, it is the war that was never truly won. Britain, in fact, lost the war more than the Americans won it.
2,000 highly trained British soldiers died compared to only about 13 American soldiers. At this time the British were the military force but they made so many mistakes it was hard to believe, one example is that they forgot to bring ladders to climb up the ramparts. The history book publisher wants to take out The War of 1812 just so we can save money. The publisher doesn't think The War of 1812 is necessary to learn because it wasn't important and it didn't help shape our future. We should keep The War of 1812 in our textbooks because it is a show of respect for those who had fallen, if we don't keep the war in it will almost be like all the American soldiers did was for nothing because nobody will know how we got where we are today

Intro The American Revolution was one of the biggest battles in the fight for freedom against the British. The British were the strongest navy and army in the world and somehow the weakest the americans beat them. Do you remember how the United States was started. When it was made up of just 13 small colonies.
The United States won its independence for Great Britain during the Revolutionary War. America struggled to get the advantage, but eventually was able to win the war. In the beginning it proved difficult to even acquire the troops necessary to fight a war. The troops they got had no adeptness for fighting. They struggled throughout the war and at times their chances for success looked bleak.
Professor White strongly defines the American Revolution as “a war that took more than just an army to win.” There are many different contributions that could easily support the successful win of the Patriots. However, the Patriots would not have been as successful during the war without the help of French soldiers. The American colonists faced many difficulties at the beginning of the American Revolution. The Americans suffered in areas of preparation, due to their lack of experienced soldiers and war supplies.
