In Macbeth, the author Shakespeare shows the control and actions portrayed by different individuals. The story of Macbeth is of a man craving to become king. His characters appear to have power of control by their ambition, manipulation, and the influence of others. Does Macbeth have control of his own actions? Or is he easily affected by others? The main characters in Macbeth that are in control are expressed to be, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and the three witches. Macbeth shows ambition but is also easily influenced. He follows through with what needs to be done to achieve his goal. It all starts off with her wanting to take order of what her husband needs to achieve. She claims to want to take her weakness away while being a woman as she speaks on the murder of Duncan. “Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty!” Lady Macbeth is bold and fierce in what she takes authority over. Macbeth follows along Lady Macbeths plan when declaring the murder of Duncan. This is the start of Macbeth following along someone else's advice. She assists Macbeth in many ways with his desire to be king. She takes the position of being the reliable source of Macbeth, getting his title as king. “But screw your courage to the sticking-place and we’ll not fail...”(Document B). The corrupted witches have the abilities higher than human existence. They instruct Macbeth that his prophecy will direct him to the actions he does. Macbeth is easily influenced and pays attention to the weird sisters. The weird sisters vanish and appear when they feel the need to. This makes Macbeth and other characters want more from them. It leaves everyone shocked and hooked on what other events are going to take place and how to survive them. The paradoxical language of the witches' display Macbeth's confusion and “Fair is foul, foul is fair” lets Macbeth see the truthful foul lifestyle he is living. Macbeth: The One Who Wants to Be in Control During Act II, Lady Macbeth is in control of Macbeth because she is stronger and more reliable than Macbeth at this moment in the play. Throughout the play Lady Macbeth tries to find every way possible to take control from Macbeth so that she can make her own rules. This also happens in real life to when Ilse Koch married her husband and worked with him at a Concentration Camp. As she was working with him she tried taking control and killing the people for what their appearance was. During war some people that you find try to take control over others so that they could make their own rules.

In William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”, a major theme displayed in the play is the desire for power. There are many characters throughout the play that lead to widespread death and political turmoil, but King Macbeth of Scotland is the true antagonist of the play. Macbeth is a cruel and tyrannical being, and goes to great lengths to become and remain the King of Scotland. He uses this motivation to mercilessly kill anyone who is in any hindrance of his reign. At the beginning of the play, three witches (the “Weird Sisters”) prophesize to the then Thane Macbeth that he will become the King of Scotland, and that the children of Banquo, Macbeth’s best friend, will become King after Macbeth.
Many people believe it is the witches that drive the plot, however this is not true. The witches do play a part in driving the plot but MacBeth is the main character who carries out the actions. The witches gave MacBeth the ambition by saying "All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!" (I.iii.53). However it is ultimately MacBeth that decides to act on the ambition granted to him.
In act V, Macbeth finds out that Lady Macbeth killed herself because of the guilt she had from the night when Macbeth killed Duncan. From the start of the play we hear praise for Macbeth from the captain when he addresses Duncan, “For brave Macbeth—well he deserves that name—Disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel,Which smoked with bloody execution,Like valor’s minion carved out his passage” (1.2.16-19), this sort of praise was likely commonplace after the battle, and likely was heard by macbeth himself, and being the proud man he was may have led him to feel deserving of greater power and authority. Her ambition is not only for herself but also for Macbeth. Nevertheless, with all her fervor, she wants him to be as strong as her. “Make thick my blood./Stop up the access and passage to remorse,/That no compunctious visitings of nature/ Shake my fell purpose/Come to my woman’s breasts,/And take my milk for gall” (1.5.44-49). Lady Macbeth, being involved with the murder of the king started to drive her insane, where she was sleep walking and believed that blood was stained to her hands and couldn’t be washed out. She got a doctor to help her but he didn’t help. With all of the guilt she had for what she had done she ended up committing suicide. Lady Macbeth going insane was her consequence for leading Macbeth down the wrong path, she dug her own
The otherworldly witches that kick off the production already set a surreal tone to the entire play opening the play to the supernatural. Speaking in their double language, and saying that famous line “Fair is foul and foul is fair” sets the course for a major theme that appears throughout the play. The line points to the play 's concern with the discrepancy between the difference between how someone seems and how someone is. Macbeth, when he almost quotes the line verbatim on his first entrance, following his victory comments on the weather: “So foul and fair a day I have not seen.” The weather is "foul" but the day meaning "the outcome of the battle" is "fair".
