Things Fall Apart is a story written by Chinua Achebe. This is a story about a successful man trying not to be like his father. The son's name is Okonkwo , he is a very harsh man who has no sympathy for laziness, his whole reason for this is rto not be like his father. Unoka was his father , and was a very unsuccessful man who liked to drink and was very much in dept. Okonkwo's personality and hardwork establishes the theme for this story. Okonkwo's thoughts beliefs and actions not to be like his father make him motivated. Okonkwos not wanting to be like his fther makes him such a hard worker, that's why he is so successful. His motivation to not be like his father is so strong, in turn makes him a savage man, not caring about anyone's feelings.

Okonkwo often has struggles with his oldest son, Nwoye. This theme of father/son struggles may have been strange to native Africans but to Europeans it was commonplace.
