Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of The Lusitania, is a narrative non-fiction thriller written by Eric Larson, describing the final, and disastrous voyage of the British ocean liner, the Lusitania. Similarly to the Titanic, the Lusitania was thought to be unsinkable, and those who voyaged within it had extreme confidence in the ship that eventually contributed to its downfall. The sheer size of the ship, and its speed and capability to exterminate smaller vessels at ease immediately dispelled any thought of it being a target of war. The story takes place in the early 1900 's, when the war between Britain and Germany during World War 1 had just begun. There was an agreement that non-military ships could not be targeted by either side.

Night, an autobiography that was written by Elie Wiesel, is from his perspective as a prisoner. The book focuses on Wiesel and his father experiencing the torture that the Nazis put them through, and the unspeakable events that Wiesel witnessed. The author, Wiesel, was one of the handfuls of survivors to be able to tell his time about the appalling incidents that occurred during the Holocaust. The air smelled of salt water, a soft breeze, and a slight chill in the air. The ship’s hull sliced the icy waters as it sailed across the sea. Four days into the journey, the ship had sailed about 375 miles south of

I decided to do a compare and contrast paper, by comparing Frederick Douglas to Elie Wiesel. Frederick, who was a former slave, and Elie Wiesel was a sent to Poland during the Holocaust, both became some of the best writers and speakers of all time. I chose to compare these two authors, because I thought it would be interesting to compare the two writers that come from different backgrounds, but both wrote biographies about two of the worst times in history, slavery. What is an A biography? It’s a “detailed description of a person's life", (Article 5) maybe like education, work, relationships, and death, Biographies is supposed to show real life experiences of these life events.

The Titanic’s Maiden voyage failed because of poor engineering on the hull and the air-tight compartments that were supposed to stop incoming flowing water past the hull. Another reason why it failed was because of the fact that everyone thought it was indestructible and godly. The ship’s crew had ignored any potential danger from the ocean, in fact, there were many dangers in the ocean other than icebergs. The fact the staff of the ship didn’t run a lifeboat drill and didn’t have the sufficient passengers when the lifeboats were sent off by the appalling destruction of the Titanic. Tuesday
Titanic was deemed unsinkable because it had 15 watertight bulkheads and a double bottom. The problem with this though was that “the watertight compartment design contained a flaw that was a critical factor in Titanic’s sinking: While the individual bulkheads were indeed watertight, the walls separating the bulkheads extended only a few feet above the waterline, so water could pour from one compartment into another, especially if the ship began to list or pitch forward.” Many people say that the ship was doomed from the start. On April 10th 1912, The Titanic set sail for Cherbourg, France and then to Queenstown, Ireland.
