Throughout the book Night, Elie has different thoughts and beliefs on his religion and God. With his beliefs the author gives a tone from the way he thinks and believes his religion. The author communicates many different tones throughout chapter 5. One tone from the beginning of the chapter was anger. On page 66 the author says, “What are You, my God? I thought angrily.” He then asks, “Why do you go on troubling these poor people’s wounded minds, their ailing bodies?” This shows that the author is communicating an angry mood because God isn't doing what he wants him to do and the author is angry about it.
