Totalitarian states and Liberal Democratic states, are two different types of government. Totalitarianism is a form of state in which the state holds sovereignty, and typically is run by a dictator. The Totalitarian system is centralised and a single person or party has complete authority, and disagreement is forbidden. Liberal Democratic state is a type of regime where the people of the state vote to elect leaders who act on their behalf. The system is based on the recognition of individual rights and freedom. These two forms of government have separate advantages and disadvantages that will be discussed later in the text. The most popular form of state used in the 21st century is liberal democracy. Totalitarianism states use tight control over their citizens, by employing strict laws, not only for the public realm but as well as the private realm. They then use propaganda and police or military intimidation to inforce these laws. This can be interpreted as an advantage because it is argued that it is easy to rule under these conditions because voting and other exercise of a citizen’s freedom are not an inconvenience to governance. Totalitarianism establishes a strong government. As there is no condemnation, no opposition, all concentration is directed to the achievements of the arms of the state, which can quickly be achieved. Totalitarian states also provide efficient and prompt government for the state.
