Seren Pisella 4/19/23 World War I was a life altering war that changed the way we lived and led to new periods in life. European tensions (the Assassination of Franz Ferdinand) really caused the war, and new advances in technology gave way to incredible combat and countless deaths. Most of these fights, however, didn’t really lead to anything, and just led to pointless fighting. But eventually the Allied Powers gained the upper hand, and the Central powers asked for a truce of sorts. This led the Allies to come together and try to craft something to make everyone happy. Though they had differing views, they managed to agree on some key terms and produce what is known as the Treaty of Versailles. This treaty was meant to end …show more content…
At the time, this probably seemed like a great idea to help the world go back to normal. But was it really the best looking back on it? Looking back to Document 6, we can see some articles from said treaty. Most, if not all, articles have something to do with Germany. This is because the Allies wanted to put all the blame for the war on Germany. So, in their treaty, they made that very clear. Some of the articles state that Germany’s armies were to be demobilized and reduced, that Germany accepts the responsibility of loss and damage, and that Germany will pay reparations. This seemed only fair, sure, but I don’t think the Allies really took into consideration how this treaty made Germany feel. This is why I feel that the Treaty of Versailles is sort of a flawed …show more content…
They formed the League of Nations, the first intergovernmental organization established to promote world peace. It is also known as the “predecessor” of the United Nations. It was formed January 10, 1920 and had 48 nations as members by the end of that year. The founding document, The Covenant of the League of Nations, was drafted at the end of WWI. It contained 26 articles, of which included conditions of membership, functions of principal organs, the mechanisms to peacefully resolve disputes, and what was obligatory for Member States. It also stated the main factors as to why the League was built. By joining the league, nations committed themselves to reduce arguments and to comply with international law. By establishing a bond of solidarity between members, they created a system of security. Meaning, if an aggressor chose to impose on one of the Member States, it should be considered an aggressor against all of the Member States. The people thought this was great, because by doing this they surely thought that no one was gonna attack a nation with the risk of having several others come after it. By 1928, the League of Nations was pretty strong. As we can see in document 10, there were fifty-four nations included in the League of Nations, and only a select few were not a part of it. However, the League weakened because of the U.S’s neglect to ratify
Following the First World War, the Treaty of Versailles was ratified in 1919 with the goal of bringing a lasting peace in Europe between the Allied powers and Germany. However, its unpopular and one-sided declarations, combined with the harsh reparations imposed on the defeated nations, would ultimately lead to the outbreak of World War II less than two decades later. The treaty was a harsh punishment on Germany forcing them to set limits on their military capabilities and make reparation payments. The Treaty of Versailles did not adequately address the grievances of the German people, which ultimately led to a resurgence of nationalism, militarism, and resentment of the Allies, contributing to the outbreak of World War II. France, England,
Negotiations, if done correctly, create peace among the sides. The Versailles Treaty was a sad excuse for a negotiation which resulted in even more conflict than ever before. Between the years of 1914 and 1918, powers such as Germany and Austria-Hungary engaged in war against France, England, Russia, and the United States (Hook). This resulted in the fatality of 17 million military officials and civilians throughout the warfare (Hook). Once the bloodshed concluded, leaders of the world met and planned to create a treaty to end all wars.
The League of Nations was set up in attempt to ensure a revived conflict would not arise. Wilson felt by putting this point into place we can avoid going into war with other nations. Unfortunately, Wilson’s plan failed due to the German Army who built their efforts on the European Western Front. However, within a few months the German Army began peace talks based on his Fourteen Points of
Germany was at risk of losing despite the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, which led to Russia withdrawing from the war and more military forces freed up for Germany. The Germans had been able to fight the French and British on the Western Front, but when the US entered the war on the side of the British and French, it became impossible to be able to uphold the war in the long run. Germany had only one more option left on the table to possibly pull out a win of the war. Germany decided to launch a massive offense on the Western Front, but the Allies launched a greater counter offense which led to the final days of the war. Before the signing of The Treaty of Versailles, U.S president Woodrow Wilson introduced his Fourteen Points to negotiate the end of the war and create peace negotiations in 1918, which led to the formation of the League of Nations in the 1920s.
After the first attempt of the league of nations was made, it failed and was the result of world war 2. The league of nations was assembled after world war 2 to prevent any future wars and conflicts between countries. The league has been successful this time due to the amount of participating countries involved. In total 50 countries are involved. In 1939 there were 9/10 counties contributing making only a same impact to any conflict.
After World War I, Wilson came up with an idea which he called the League of Nations. Wilson wanted to create an organization that would help the world maintain peace or to help countries resolve conflicts before they got too out of hand. He asked the leaders of multiple countries, including France, Italy, and Great Britain, to meet and come up with a League of Nations. The League of Nations was successful in solving some issues, but Wilson failed with this idea because America never ended up joining. Many countries also ended up not joining, which meant that they didn’t have to follow the rules that were made by the League of Nations.
The treaty also established The League of Nations to prevent future
The Germans were resentful when signing the Treaty of Versailles because it mostly targeted them. In the efforts to create peace between the nations, it only angered the Germans. They were losing everything while the other countries gained from their misfortunes. The Treaty of Versailles did not create peace between the allies and Germany, it only infuriated the
On the last point, Wilson encouraged the nations of the world to unite under an association to preserve world peace, and to resolve conflicts between nations. Henceforth, the League of Nations, a unity of sovereign countries, became established to accomplish this
The League of Nations was an international organization that came into existence in January 10, 1920 and officially collapsed on April 18, 1946. Prior to the outbreak of World War I, less efforts were made to improve how foreign affairs and conflicts were dealt. The aftermath of the war made nations realize that an international organization was needed to prevent an outbreak of another war. Thus, the League was established after the Paris Peace conference.
Ava Romina Colombo-Walzer AP US History Ms Rosen 02/27/2023 The Opposition Against Joining the League of Nations In the Senate After the First World War, there was a nationwide debate on whether or not to accept the Treaty of Versailles and therefore join the League of Nations, or the debate between the irreconcilables and the reservationists. The League of Nations was an organization created to support peace and promote healthy communication between countries in order to prevent widespread war.
Then, by the time the Soviet Union joined, Germany and Japan had withdrawn. Another issue with the League of Nations is it was an unanimity system
“When the peace treaty is signed, the war isn’t over” (Marlantes). When the fighting stopped on the battlefront of World War I many leaders of different countries gathered together in Paris. They were there to discuss the Treaty of Versailles that would ensure permanent peace. The treaty that was created was extremely unfair to Germany. The Treaty of Versailles was far from perfect, but some of the biggest faults were forcing Germany to take the blame for the whole war, demanding they give up all of their colonies and decrease the size of their military, and paying reparations to the Allies.
The League of Nations was an international organization created 1919 by the American president, Woodrow Wilson, as a part of his Fourteen Points. The League was meant to maintain universal peace and resolve international disputes between nations to avoid a repeat of the First World War. The League of Nations had some successes in maintaining universal peace, however, there numerous failures as well. Some of the successes include the Åland Islands crisis and the Upper Silesia incident. Some of the failures of the League include the events that took place in Manchuria and Abyssinia.
The League of Nations was created after the WWI because President Wilson wanted to create a “world parliament” to solve the nations’ arguments, which would stop the future wars. The League would also improve people’s lives and jobs, would persuade the nations to agree to disarmament, and to enforce the Treaty of Versailles. But the League was weak to begin with. The most powerful states were not part of it. The United States decided not to be part of the League, Germany was not allowed to join due to the cause of the WWI, and Russian refused to join because they were Communists, and Britain and France that were part of it and were powerful states just came out from WWI and were weak to fully support the League.
