Troy As A Tragic Hero Essay

Troy is seen as a tragic figure because he is seen in the play as this type of character. Troy as a young child lead himself to his own destruction or “fall.” Troy did not willingly cause himself to fall, but as a young kid he was just trying to pursue his dreams of playing baseball in the big leagues. As a kid Troy did not have his parents there to help guide him to the best decisions possible for his future. Later Cory, Troys son, is entered into the play talking about playing football and possibly taking it to the big leagues. Troy, after going through the same kind of situation, tries to warn his son Cory that maybe he should not waste his time on football. Troy also tells Cory he should keep his job working at the A&P to earn money instead of just wasting his time playing football and getting nowhere in life. Although it may not seem like it, Troy is the main subject of the entire story. Troy is what keeps the whole story together. it is Troy who puts his brother away in a mental hospital. It is Troy who has an affair with another woman while he is married to Rose. And it is also Troy who crushes his son's dreams of college football and kicks him out of the house. Troy explains why he had the affair an he says that he still loves his wife. Rose thinks otherwise because Troy is out sleeping with another woman. After Rose and Troy separate because of him cheating, Troy brings home a baby that was the girls who he cheated with. Rose is even more furious but Troy asked her to take car of the baby due to complications in the pregnancy. Rose accepts but she does not go back to Troy. Troy can be the hero, he is the one that has done everything within himself to help Gabriel, Lyons, Cory, and Rose. He has provided them a home, and he helped get Gabriel established after his injury in the war. Troy does seem to have his falls, but he is the protagonist based on the good that he has
