The purpose of this essay is to explore the foundation of Army leadership through doctrine and history. We will explore the past in which the groundwork was laid, allowing us to understand the presence of Army leadership. We will assess how it all comes together to create a strong foundation necessary for a strong Army. Finally, we will understand how we use this foundation to achieve our mission. By understanding the foundation that has been pressed into Army culture, we can evaluate ourselves and implement the values and ethics laid down throughout the history of the Army. Along the same lines, we can grasp the foundation of leadership as we move up in the ranks of the Army. We start from day one of our careers given the standard of being a Soldier, which translates smoothly into being a leader. We need to ensure that this is being done for our Soldiers, or else it is very likely that the Soldiers underneath us fail to grasp the importance of being a leader. To solve the problem, Army leaders at higher levels should reduce the number of tasks passed down to subordinates and set up a way to check their compliance. The Importance of Accountability in the U.S. Army Every living thing on Earth demands discipline and accountability, but when it comes to U.S. Army, soldiers are trained specifically in these subjects. There are extreme costs at risk if these principles are not held high by the Armed Forces. Most organized Armies focus on the importance of accountability and teach it in the very beginning stages of readiness. Accountability includes things such as showing up on time to safeguarding sensitive records, keeping account of resources to watching out for fellow soldiers. Almost everything can be tied back to the importance of accountability.
Canadian Philosopher Matshona Dhliwayo once stated, “The real power of a leader is in the number of minds he can reach, hearts he can touch, souls he can move, and lives he can change.” As a leader, especially a leader of Soldiers, it is critical to understand your subordinates. There are instances where you will lead diverse groups, and your method of approach to a situation can contradict the values and morals of a different person. If you decide to not recognize and accept these different beliefs, then it can be very dangerous, as people will decide not to follow you. Instead, if you accept these beliefs, not only will you being getting a greater understanding of different beliefs, but you have the capability to inspire, motivate, and earn the trust of your subordinates.

Leadership in the Army is the fundamental foundation of the organization. Leaders like Officers and Non- Commission Officers implement and set the standard of leader to soldiers. These leaders ensure the Army soldiers are trained and prepare for any hardships they face. The term Leadership can be defined differently based on the organization in which the term is applied to. In the Army Leadership can be described as a "characterized by a complex mix of organizational, situational, and mission demands on a leader who applies personal qualities, abilities, and experiences to exert influence on the organization, its people, the situation, and the unfolding mission" (ADP 6-22).
A lot can be accomplished just in how we talk to each other. As a leader, I will talk to you, not at you. Take your position seriously - whether you are new to the Army or a senior leader- your role is important and adds great value to the overall mission. I’m a firm believer in doing your absolute best at all times; don’t aim for substandard. Remember that it is okay to ask for help, it is okay to not know something, but you should always be striving to learn and improve.

This points to the fact that exercises in self-development and discipline were key to building leadership qualities. Leaders as mentioned before are role-models in society and when those leadership qualities are nurtured, the society as a whole benefits from them.
Military leadership is the process of influencing others to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, and motivation. Another significant aspect of emphasized by the army is charisma. Therefore, army strategy to have a great leader is to choose people with high charisma since follower are always drawn to leaders with charisma. By having a high charisma they can command the follower easily. The basic task of a leader are: achieve the mission with zero fatality.
