The Mexican War was a battle between the Americans and the Mexicans when there was a disagreement between borders between the two countries. America went to war against Mexico and fought for almost two years. However, it all started when Mexico declared their independence from Spain. They became close to America. They allowed Americans to settle in Texas, but Americans began overwhelming Texas. Soon, Americans in Texas wanted to declare independence from Spain because of the prohibition of slavery. According to President James Polk, “Mexico had passed the boundary of the United States, has invaded our territory and shed American blood upon the American soil.” (Document B) Clearly, this document shows that an affair with the Mexicans inside the border of America caused Americans to become injured and killed. According to Jesus Velasco-Marquez, “Thus occupying the territory in dispute and increasing the possibilities of a confrontation… In the eyes of the [Mexican] government, the mobilization of the US army was an outright attack on Mexico…” (Document C) Clearly, the Americans were justified because they were settling into their own land, but the Mexicans attacked them while also crossing the border. Therefore, America was justified with going to war against Mexico. However, some people may disagree that America was justified, and might believe that it was not justified to declare war against Mexico. People may believe that they were not justified because the US had already stolen Texas from Mexico. “From Mexico’s point of view, the annexation of Texas to the United States was inadmissible for both legal and security reasons.” (Document C) Clearly, America was not justified in declaring war against Mexico because they had already robbed them, and was not right to declare war after they were just robbed of their land. However, America was justified because Mexico would lose their land eventually anyways, and while Mexico was weak, seized the opportunity to gain more land. Thus, America was justified to fight against
After many fatal encounters between the two, America had gained control of the territory. They applied for annexation into the United States twice, but congress did not want to aggravate Mexican officials. Although, after James K. Polk was elected president in 1844, congress voted to annex Texas. The United States was not justified in the war with Mexico because they didn’t follow their laws, undisputed territory, and the idea of manifest destiny. To begin with, The United States was not justified because they didn’t abide by Mexico’s
[O]ther nations have undertaken … hostile interference against us, … hampering our power, limiting our greatness and checking the fulfillment of our manifest destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence [God] for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions. "According to Document C, Mexico had never approved Texas' annexation in the , so they were merely protecting what they believed to be their land. " The troops commanded by General Zachary Taylor arrived at the Río Grande, across from the city of Matamoros, thus occupying the territory in dispute and increasing the possibilities of a confrontation…. In the eyes of the [Mexican] government, the mobilization of the US army was an outright attack on Mexico. ''
The Mexico and United States war started in 1846 and it ended in 1848 the Mexico and United States war was a border dispute. Texas was annexed and americans got killed during the Mexico and United States war. I personally l don't think they were justified because Mexico invaded America and they wanted to take all their land back and America wasn't so happy about that. One reason for the war is because the Mexican army is attacking the Americans on their land. Another reason is that it will clear up the border dispute another reason is that it will also help them with manifest destiny.
This war was won by the Americans and condemned by its contemporary detractors as expansionists. The US was unjustified in going to war because of 3 reasons: the U.S. robbed Mexico, the growth of slavery in Texas, and President Polk provoked it. The first reason as to why the U.S. was not
INTRODUCTION Throughout the 1840s and 1850s a major war happened called the Mexican American War which drastically changed the U.S. and Mexico and lead to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo to be signed and which established the Rio Grande and not the Nueces River as the U.S Border. This also lead to the U.S. annexation of Texas and lead to the Mexico agreeing to sell California and the rest of the territory for 15 million. So you 're probably wondering why the war was fought but you 'll find that out later.
This war happened mainly because the U.S. wanted to expand to the Pacific Ocean to fulfill their Manifest Destiny, trying to take away Mexico’s land. Mexico refused to to give land to the U.S. The big question is whether the U.S. was justified in fighting Mexico in the Mexican-American War. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Manifest Destiny, too much Mexican interference, and Texas was invaded. One reason the Mexican War was justified was Manifest Destiny. In Document A, John O’Sullivan writes: “Texas is now ours...Let their reception into the “family be frank, kindly, and cheerful….”
Was the United States Justified in Going to War With Mexico? Who started the Mexican-American War? Firstly, The United States went to Mexico in 1846. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836. Certainly, Americans were being extremely greedy and wanted more and more land.
The war was one-sided due to the fact that the United States won most of the battles. The problem with this was that México refused to negotiate after every loss, so the war had to go on for longer than it had to be. Since Mexico refused to negotiate
God wanted the US to expand. On the contrary, some individuals claim the US was not justified in going to war with Mexico. This point of view makes sense because Texas was Mexico’s to begin with. Despite that, Texas was independent when the US annexed it. Therefore, the united states was justified in going to war with Mexico.
When Mexico gained its independence from Spain in 1821, a string of ruthless dictators and weak presidents made Mexico an easy target for its powerful neighbor, the United States. The US swooped in to expand its territory and its popular institution of slavery. By doing so, the US started a war with Mexico that was justified for illegitimate reasons. The Mexican-American War was not justified because the US took Mexico’s land for the expansion of slavery, and justified their taking advantage of Mexico when it was politically weak by hiding behind Manifest Destiny.
However, the question still remains to this day, was the US justified in going to war with Mexico? Justified means to have good reason or be right about a decision. Did the US have good reason to start a war with Mexico? As far as the US-Mexican War is concerned the Americans did have appropriate causes for war. They 're acceptable reasons were Manifest Destiny, wanting to protect Texas, and the Mexicans ' strike on America because of a border dispute.
The Mexican-US War California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada; these are some states the United States of America gained after the Mexican War. Americans fought with Mexicans, but was war really the best option? In my opinion, the USA was 100% justified to go to war with Mexico; Americans were attacked on American soil and Mexico was trying to stop the American expansion. Therefore I think the United States was justified in going to war with Mexico.
The United States of America has been through many wars, wars concerning many things such as land oil, pride and respect. However, when the United States went to war with Mexico, it was planned over greed. The Mexican- American war was a war provoked by the United States, in efforts to expand the coasts of the country. Mexico was a small underprivileged country who had previously to the war had already lost part of their country (Texas). Needless to say this war was cut throat and violent, it was however one of the smartest business decisions America has ever made.
The Mexican-American War changed the Unites States of America in a monumental way. This war changed The U.S.A.’s relationship with foreign powers and the economic standpoint of the nation. The Mexican- American war, and its strong ties to manifest destiny, shaped the nation in a country bordered by two seas with a chance for common folk and foreigners to have a sustainable life due to the gold rush. The war can also be accounted for the downfall leading to the Civil War over the conflict of slavery due to the land purchased in the wars treaty. Conflict between Mexico and the United States began when Texas, previously part of Mexico, became part of the United States.
Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself wasn’t legitimate because of the revolution in Texas, motivation for superiority, and the U.S. government’s actions. To begin, the Texans began an unreasonable war because they didn’t follow Mexico’s laws and conditions. When Mexico started selling cheap land, they set conditions for the people moving in. The people had to convert to Catholicism, learn Spanish, become a Mexican citizen, and have no slaves. Many Americans didn’t like being told what to do, and disobeyed the rules and laws.
