There are various ways to describe what a worldview is, to some it’s a view of what the world is, to others it’s their biblical views or foundation, or even their personal views or opinions. Weider and Gutierrez define a worldview as something that holds much meaning, as well as many emotions and potential consequences. It’s a response of our heart or inner being, our intellect, emotion, and will; it’s your philosophy of life and the framework you bring to making decisions. (Weider & Gutierrez, 2014, pp. 58-59). A Christian begins with believing that God exists; the biblical/Christian worldview begins with God being known through His creation of and revelation to humanity. “The term biblical is added as a descriptor to indicate the lens or …show more content…
Those are two very important questions to be answered to explain the importance of your stance and understanding on life and existence speaking from a biblical and Christian standpoint. Theism contends that God is the result of everything that exists; He’s said to have created ex nihilo, which means “out of nothing,” and although differing in their idea of His nature, God is the first cause as well as the answer to why there is something rather than nothing. “Most Christian churches teach that God is the triune and all three persons of the Godhead were involved in the creation of the universe and mankind” (Weider & Gutierrez, 2014, p. 65). In Genesis 1:1 it states how God created the heavens and the earth. In Genesis 2:7 it states how God breathed the breath of life into man to become living beings. These two verses explain the importance of God creating life and all it holds, as well as how mankind was created in His image by His very …show more content…
“Personal experiences and intuitive feelings will shift over time and in different situations. A worldview based on Scripture will survive over time and across all the situations we will encounter” (McCullough, 2008, p. 19). Your biblical worldview beliefs should influence the way you think about, treat, and speak to others daily by allowing God’s light to shine through you unto others. McCullough says that we are to be influential for God’s glory in our lives, and that God must be involved (2008, p.7). Your biblical worldview beliefs might also influence the way you decide on a future career. You may not agree with certain jobs or positions that are held, or your beliefs may have you view things differently. “We must identify not only the beliefs that are in our minds but, most importantly, the beliefs that we have moved into our lives in such a way that we are deeply, personally, and sincerely committed to them” (McCullough, 2008, p. 19). Your worldview and beliefs should have a positive influence on you whether it be through your relationships with others or through choosing a career; “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans” (Proverbs
A wise man once told me "Taylor, once your values become clear, making decisions will become much easier. " The wise man was my father, who to this day is a man of great integrity and morals, and continues to teach me daily about the values of Christianity and of everyday life. As I go through life, I see that my father's words are true not just in my own endeavors, but in the endeavors of others as well. It is true in fact, that once ones values become clear, making decisions will become much easier.
For a long time it resonated with me that the career choice that I had planned in social sciences was one that would not bring any glory to God, in his
Galatians 5:13-25 was meaningful to me because it described what freedom was meant for. We were given the freedom to do whatever we want, but humans often make bad choices. This passage is about how the Holy Spirit can help us resist the temptations of being human beings. This spoke to me because the Holy Spirit is like a helper and supporter in our lives. It guides us when we are lost and as a human, I am often lost and turn to God for help.
Christianity stands on the idea that Jesus is the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; that his life on earth, his crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension into heaven are proof of God 's love for humanity and God 's forgiveness of human sins; and that by faith in Jesus one may attain salvation and eternal life. This teaching is embodied in the Bible, specifically in the New Testament, but Christians accept also the Old Testament as sacred and authoritative Scripture. Christians is a monotheistic religion, meaning they only believe in one god. Christian believe that we are all born sinners due to Adam and Eve, but we can all reach salvation by faith in God and good works. In the
A biblical worldview will effect everything I do in my life. One of the most important things is the way we treat and interact with others. It start with the way we think about others, if we know them or not we should see them through the eye of compassion. We must be careful not to judge people because of what we know or don 't know about them. How you speak and treat them will determine if you will ever be able to help them or not.
A personal worldview may cause dissention amongst friends, family, and people you encounter. Each of these topics are controversial and the views of those that agree with one another, are in harmony until they are confronted with someone with a worldview in complete opposition. The religious worldview taught to an individual when they were young becomes a source of comfort and help, it doesn’t matter what your religion because these beliefs are often passed from generation to generation with the concept that this is the “correct religion” and all others are wrong. In the environment of like following people the peace, harmony and security in that faith is strong.
Thus, God starts creating his masterpiece only by speaking. Then after everything is created, he rests. God then creates Adam and Eve and puts them through a trial with the serpent. Bartholomew and Goeheen write that “ Humans are made for God and for one another and for the creation, to be at work within it.” (p. 36).
The definition of a worldview is a particular philosophy of life or conception of the world. People’s perspective on our world differs. Some might think that there is only one God like Christianity, in multiple gods like Native Americans or that there is no God or gods like Atheist. Keith Drury wrote the article “A Christian Worldview?” and in that article came up with 6 questions to answer to recognize what our worldview is.
Chapter 1 discusses that theological questions surround us no matter who we are. As Christians, we should show genuine care and interest in theology. Due to the fall, sin continues to follow our lives. Theological reflection is a way to examine all aspects of our lives and to see if they align with God’s word. It is a way to probe and minimize potential dangers of the idols of this world that give us momentary comfort; e.g., online shopping.
The most surprising world view I discovered in the book, The Transforming Vision, by Walsh and Middleton was the ability for a follower of Christ to be open-minded toward other cultures that are different in their beliefs, practices, and values. The reading has taught me not to be so one-sided on issues, but to listen to others who have a different perspective than I do. We all come from different backgrounds and not everyone shares the same values. The book gives examples of how each culture practices their traditions and customs. For example, the Japanese value the trait of loyalty.
Benchmark - Gospel Essentials Everyone has a worldview, a set of beliefs on how you view your world, whether you are Christian, Atheist or Mormon, or none of these. Your worldview determines the basis on how you view your own reality; it is a lens by which you look at your world, and the moral values you have adopted. Your worldview determines what you believe about God, marriage, raising children, type of food you eat, politics, to name a few.
The course has focused on different world views, and how our understanding of God impacts our understanding of, and interaction with, the world around us. This paper takes a look two of my personal world views, asking what I believe to be true, why I believe it to be true, and how that truth impacts my daily life. What do I believe to be true?
This is important because these specific verses provide varying examples of who the Lord is and how he can be seen and described. The main point of this particular passage is that God never rests and watches over
The Bible is humankind’s exceptional Truth, their guide to life, and filled with many answers to humanities life expectancy. However, God expects that his people work on building on their wisdom, education and/or knowledge about themselves, the world they live in, and the Truth about their existence. God pleads with his people seek knowledge, wisdom, insight, and understanding, meaning beyond reading the Bible, it is about all things--Everything (Proverbs 1:7, 2:10, 8:10, & 15:14). According to Barclay (n.d.) Biblical “Truth” is primary, however, one must use the Biblical understanding (Truth about life) to help explore all things and happenings in the current life, including psychological awareness [Audio podcast/Video lecture].
In practice, having a biblical worldview necessitates an alternative understanding through its values and the perspective it provides. People who hold a biblical worldview apply it to every aspect of their life, not just their personal lives. The Word of God is followed in their relationships, people, decision making, careers, and so on. Tackett (2020) illustrated this point by saying those who take their own biblical worldview seriously follow the mandate in Romans 13 to honor authority (and God) by genuinely and rigorously researching candidates,
