The company I chose to discuss is Chick-Fil-A, Dan Cathy is the current President and CEO. Chick-Fil-A’s mission statement explains what they value and what their commitment is to the community. According to the Chick-Fil-A website “For the past 66 years, we have built a foundational commitment to service – service to our customers, service to our franchised Restaurant Operators and their Team Members, and service to our communities. Dan Cathy has built his company on several principles or values. He believes in community service, as well as the service that they provide for their customers. He is an Evangelical Christian and believes in strong biblical teachings. He has mentioned before that the company’s success is due to his family and other families that have supported Chick-Fil-A throughout the years. He also owed that success with being married to their first wives, referring to himself and his family. When he gives recognition to other families that have helped with Chick-fil-A’s success he highlighted “the biblical family”. He has a strong stance against gay rights. He emphasized biblical values in regards to discussing gay rights in 2012. Chick-fil-A is one of the few restaurant super chains that is closed on Sunday. Chick-fil-A was originally named The Dwarf Grill and later The Dwarf House until finally renaming to Chick-fil-A in 1967. Today, the CEO of Chick-fil-A is S. Truett Cathy’s grandson, Andrew Truett Cathy. Chick-fil-A is a fast-food chain with over 140,000 team members across the United States.
Congratulations on the 2017 third quarter results for Publix. Store sales, earnings, and a higher stock price are impressive. With Publix headquartered in Lakeland, Florida, and 775 stores in Florida, the company is a prominent business for our state. With a history dating back to 1930 and founder George W. Jenkins, Publix has become one of the largest employee-owned grocery chains in the United States. I am a long-time Publix shopper and appreciate the friendly customer service provided by store employees.
My favorite line in this book came from chapter 5 and it reads, “Chick-fil-A is what it is today because of its product, people and purpose.” It takes much more than just serving great food to guests to make Chick-fil-A prosper. From this book I can take away that there is much more involved in leading than ordering people around. Mr. Cathy made sure to not order people around, but to ask people if they want to do something then ask if it’s a problem. From this book I can also take away that a good leader needs a good foundation.

The main thing that has revolutionized the company was Truett mind set. HE didn’t even believe the company was his. It was God’s; Truett just operates it and take care of the employees. Many people may think that the purpose of Chick-Fil-A is to make great food. According to Truett there is two purposes.
As of today, Mr. Cathy’s legacy that was developed in his own backyard has been very powerful and fulfilling as it pertains to his businesses, foundations, and community service, not to mention being partners with the greater Atlanta business community in philanthropic endeavors, stimulating the local economy through job creation, along with stewardship initiatives to help make the community they call home and is the headquarters for Chick-fil-A a better place than it was before Chick-fil-A existed. Mr. Cathy even created a National Sandwich Day: An Homage to the Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich (Chick-fil-A). In conclusion, Mr. Cathy is an “entrepreneurial legend” who has shown proven exemplary managerial economics in decision making and ethical behavior.
Additionally, one must have exceptional communication skills. As a front of house team member, I am constantly engaging with guests. Interacting with them from the time they walk through the door to the moment they leave, I use communication skills every day at work. In many ways, I am considered the face of Chick-fil-A and represent what the company stands for by how I interact with guests. Finally, one who desires to work for Chick-fil-A must be a hard worker.
Dan West was an exceptional man and a great leader. Servant leadership is rare when compared to other leadership styles. The term servant leadership was coined by Robert K.
