In Chapter 6 of the novel TKAM, shows us that there are two types of courage- physical courage and moral courage. Physical courage was shown as Jem and Dill decided to “peep in the window with the loose shutter to see if they could get a look at Boo Radley.” And moral courage was shown to us when Jem decided to return to the scene of the crime in order to retrieve his pants. Physical Courage In order to satisfy their curiosity, at night, Dill And Jem planned to get a glimpse of how Boo Radley looks like. Worried and frightened for the two, Scout had no other choice but to join them. Although Scout was scared of coming back to the Radley Place, she gathered her courage and went along with Jem and Dill’s Plan. As the three kids were sneaking out, remaining and maintaining silence was a challenge. Sneaking out of the house took a lot of courage for the three kids because they were already told off by Atticus to ignore how the Radley’s way of living and about Boo Radley. This type of courage means doing the right thing even when one has fears about the risk and consequences. When Jem was told by Atticus to go get his pants back from Dill, Jem decided to get his pants back from the Radley Place fence. Although Jem could wait until the next morning to get his pants, he was resolved to do the right thing in order to keep his relationship with Atticus the way it has been. Everybody agrees Scout, Dill and Jem snuck into Mr. Radleys back yard. Some people think Jem should not have let Scout come into the Radley Yard and peep through Boo’s window with Dill and him. Conversely, others believe Jem should have let Scout come into the Radley Yard with Dill and him.

Jem had the conception that courage was a “manly man”, a man that was tough and could fight. However, using Ms. Dubose as an example, she explained a new type of courage to Jem.
