For the duration of these past few weeks, we have been reading the “Where The Red Fern Grows” novel written by Wilson Rawls and also watching the movie produced by Norman Tokar, but which is better? In this essay, I will explain my personal opinion and contrast and compare characters, plot, and the ending of the book and movie. The whole general plot is the same, Billy Colman lives in the Ozarks and wants some hunting dogs. Eventually he gets the dogs and they are said to be some of the best coonhunting hounds in the Ozarks, so Billy’s grandfather signs him up for a coon hunting championship. As I will explain later in the essay, Billy ends up winning the championship but doesn’t in the movie.
