One man stepped into one of the worst programs in the entire country, and completely turned it around. The school in the little apple will forever be different thanks to this incredible coach. Bill Snyder was an effective leader because of the long term role he played in the lives of the players, leading the largest turnaround in FBS football history, and because he always put the players and team before himself.
Bill Snyder is the legendary head coach of the K-State football team. He was Kansas State’s head football from 1988-2005, then he briefly retired and then came back to coach from 2009-present. He is credited with completely turning around the program, and building a perennial title contender.
While Bill Snyder is a great football coach, the biggest role he has played on these young men is guiding them along the right path and continuing to stay involved with them, years after they have left the team. For example, one day early on in Snyder’s career at K-State, one of his players approached him and told him that one of his other players was attempting to take his own life. When Snyder approached the scene the player had a hose from the exaust pipe going into his car with all of the windows closed. Snyder was able to talk the young man out of it, and now he still stays in touch with Snyder, he now has a family and is living a happy and successful life. (Snyder) If he had never stepped in to help the player, he would’ve died and he would’ve never gotten the chance the live the great life he has today. Also, in July of 2017, a Kansas State

When Snyder first arrived at K-State as the head coach, he called a meeting with all of the players, at that meeting the players talked about how embarrassed they were about how bad they were, but Snyder saw the good in this, he could tell his players wanted to win, and they wanted it bad. Snyder later stated, “There wasn’t a single player in that room who had experienced winning a football game at Kansas State,” (Snyder). In their first game, they played North Texas and won on a late go-ahead touchdown, after the game the fans stormed the field, everyone was happy and the program looked like they were headed in the right direction. (Snyder) Over time, the program gradually improved, and eventually became one of the best in the country. In 2013, which was arguably the best year in program history, the Wildcats held a record of 11-2 with their only losses coming to Baylor and Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. Also, that year Snyder led them to be conference champions for the second time in his career, they’re the only football conference championships in school history. (And the Heisman) Another highlight of that 2013 season was that the Wildcats Quarterback Collin Klein was a heisman finalist, which is really impressive just because he was the tough guy playing in the little apple, Manhattan, Kansas. (And the Heisman) Over the years, Snyder has
When he was at the school he made a name for himself when he led his school, Charles M. Russel High School in winning Montana State Title. Later, he joined Washington State Cougars and made them win the Rose Bowl in 1998, while he was at college. A lot of big teams then noticed that a real young talent is coming up the ranks.
If we suffer a loss, UGA uses his wrinkly face and slobbery tongue to bring a smile to the disappointed fans; if we achieve a victory, he is there to celebrate and bring pride to the bulldawg nation. Without even trying, UGA is entertaining. Before every game, fans (including me) wait behind an SUV to see UGA heavily panting in his kennel. Every time, it amazes me that fans are so committed to the university and the sport that they wait to see a dog pant in his kennel and "ooh" and "ahh" while watching, as if they are in the presence of royalty (most bulldog fans would argue that they are). UGA exhibits a balance of hospitality , pride, intimidation most important, loyalty, and his image embodies the character and values of the university, the football team, and the fans that support it

In the film Remember the Titans, racial prejudice and stereotypes are evident throughout. At the start of the movie we are taken back to 1971 where we are introduced to the town of Alexandria in Virginia and the new high school that resides in it, as two schools recently combined to form one desegregated student body called T.C. Williams High School. Football is an immense part of this town and for the people residing there. Shortly into the film, head football Coach Bill Yoast, nominee for the Virginia High School Hall of Fame, is demoted to assistant football coach and the school board hires an African American man by the name of Herman Boone to take his place. This starts an uproar in the Alexandria community as desegregation hadn't been
The desire to win in leadership sets a context where true beneficial aspects and lessons are learnt and taught. The lessons cover ethical principles and aspects of responsibility, respect, caring, fairness, and trustworthiness. These styles are based on the film Remember the Titans.’ The backdrop in the film presents itself in football and racism which are the aspects that clash with the leadership styles. Coach Herman Boone’s leadership styles manifest themselves based on his upbringing which provides a tough exterior.
Ethics and integrity are essential components of character for any positive, influential leader.. Both ethics and integrity are skill sets that can be honed over time; however, it is in best practice to have them aligned with personal values which tend to be invariant. Remember the Titans, demonstrates how values can evolve. The Titans bring together a hostile torn community during the mandatory integration processes in Virginia through leaders maintaining their ethics. Not only does the movie depict values along with ethics and integrity, but it also illustrates the core competencies of this pillar.
I am familiar with this team and they have been used as an example of the perfect team before, with good reason. Can you tie the things you stated above back to the readings from the week? I think that Coach Don Shula led the team to change. Before Coach Shula the leadership was not there.
