Gun control is a law in which determines how firearms are used, sold and who have the right to use them. There are statistics that show how most of the population of a country is in favor of owning a firearm for self-defense. In my opinion, gun control should be enforced because it will make us safer and would reduce crimes. If people use guns as self-defense then they would increase the homicide rate. Therefore, why won’t people agree with gun control if it will help reduce crimes? Gun control has been an important topic for the past few years. According to the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states that "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear …show more content…
The freedom of gun ownership would lead to children coming into contact with a firearm and result in a dangerous accident. In the United States the second cause for children is firearm homicide. For example, in 2007 more children were killed by the use of a gun than police officers at work. With this is in mind, you can see why gun control should be enforced. To demonstrate whether a person should own a firearm or not, Joe Messerli wrote an article to compare the pros and cons of owning a firearm. In favor of gun control he first, stated that the right to own a gun should be restricted because it would reduce crime. Second, those mental disabled persons, kids who are bullied and aggravated workers could cause a dangerous incident that would not have occurred if gun ownership was restricted. Third, a person who has a gun would be in more danger than a person without one against a criminal. Fourth, suicide and crimes of love or jealousy are more likely to occur easier with a firearm available. Fifth, the Second Amendment of the Constitution was meant for the military rather than the citizens. Sixth, just by having a firearm makes a crime more dangerous. Seventh, if the freedom of …show more content…
Not only would it reduce crime, it would make people feel safer. Gun violence has come to the attention of most citizens over the past years because of the disagreement of whether or not firearms should be restricted. There will always be those who oppose gun control but they may not know the mayor consequences’ having a gun implies. You could be the next victim of a shooting by a person who owns a
Gun Control Gun control is the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians. Gun control has been a very big, conflicting topic for a very long time. There are so many different views on gun control and who knows when this conflict will be resolved and when these school shootings will come to an end. Along with all the suicides that are happening involving guns, it needs to end. This issue seems to be getting worse, and the policies they have now are not working like they should be.
A decrease in incidence of gun-related violence has also decreased in the US during the time when the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act was in effect. There are two arguments dominating the gun control issue. The anti-gun control people believes that the problem is with the people not with the guns and imposing heavier sanctions, harsher punishments on criminals, and more armed guards should solve the problem of gun violence. On the other hand, the pro-gun control people argues that the easy accessibility of firearms directly correlates gun-related violence and mass shooting (Lemieux, 2014). Both arguments have its merits, but in dealing with the gun control issue, it is important to put ethics and public health implications into consideration (Boylan,
Gun control has been a controversial issue for many years. Many citizens believe that if gun control is strictly enforced it would reduce the threat of crime. People have the right to bear arms for protection, or even just the pleasure of hunting and recreational activity. With the recent events involving firearms and mass shootings, people are skeptical whether to increase or decrease gun laws. Americans have a constitutional right to own handguns and stricter laws and licensing will not effectively save lives.
Im assuming that no one in here will ever go out and commit a violent crime involving a firearm. However i cant guarantee that some people we are around everyday will not be involved in a violent crime. I'd like to tell you today why gun control should not be put into large scale effect . I'd like to bring up the number of violent crimes involving firearms in the united states in the year of 2013 before the bulk of the gun control movement had started (refer to chart). IN the year 2013 there were 16,121 homicides nation wide and out of that number 11,208 of them were caused by a firearm of those deaths approximately 750 of the murders were committed with an illegally owned firearm which shows that you do not have to be a felon that is unable to possess a firearm in order to take someones life with one.
Two things that do not go hand in hand with one another is Crime and guns. Gun control issues have been a huge problem in the United states for forever and a day. No matter what happens when violence and guns get in contact the problem pays us all a visit. The big question is real, If having new laws for guns, will it decide/figure out the crime rate in the United States? My opinion is that the new gun laws will figure out the crime rate because so many issues/problems will be solved in the united states.
‘In the late 1980s, gun control groups realized that they had failed in their original goal—getting handguns banned—and began campaigning against semi-automatic firearms they called "assault weapons," most of which are rifles’(“A ban on assault weapons would not reduce crime”). From 1994 to 2004, the Federal Assault Weapons (F.D.A) banned semi automatic weapons from having more than 10 rounds. The easiest way to define gun control is by saying it a government regulation sale of any type of handgun, or assault rifle. It’s just a certain style the government sales firearms, if you have a criminal background or criminal history you are not allowed to purchase a firearm due to gun control. I personally think gun control doesn’t cause any harm to today’s society, considering the fact that i’m constantly around guns and I have no violent urge to put anyone in danger.
Pro gun control advocates believe that the second amendment (the right to bear arms) was only meant in the ideal of forming a militia for a common interest and this has since been outdated due to the creation of a central army. While anti-gun control supporters believe that the second amendment was given to everyone to protects themselves from many dangers they face. While many people may never know what the creators of the amendments meant by this, both sides will always feud, believing that the ideas from the opposing side is wrong (“Should”). This is all useless due to the simple fact that no law that bans gun use reduces the gun crime rate effectively (Davidson). The publisher, Robert Farago, of thetruthaboutguns.com also believed this as he stated in an article about the San Bernardino shooting “No assault weapon ban, no gun violence restraining order, no ammunition magazine capacity law would have prevented the San Bernardino slaughter”(“should”).
Gun Control Gun control over the years has been a controversial subject, with people arguing for both sides. The 2nd amendment states that everyone in the U.S. has a right to bear arms. Mass shootings and suicides by firearm have been a growing concern for many people living in the U.S. Numerous people making the argument that there should be more gun control. Having gun control would help lessen the deaths by firearms in the country for a variety of reasons.
Moreover, if the ownership of guns is limited, it will help prevent unnecessary deaths and violence caused by gun owners, especially students. Gun ownership should be totally controlled and regulated by the government because they will help in limiting the number of people who own guns. When gun
Alexis Clarke Professor Frank English 110 29 October 2015 Gun Control Will Not Eliminate Crime The big issue of gun control in the United States, is that many people believe that it takes away the 2nd Amendment rights, which is the right to bear arms. Citizens of the United States are promised the the right to bear arms in the Constitution, and by applying gun control laws takes away that same right. Crime is high enough in cities with very few laws pertaining to gun control, but taking guns away from people who are registered with license will not solve the problem either. Placing more limitations on gun owners, particularly responsible gun owners, will not reduce gun violence.
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
They can be used to defend and protect as well as to threaten and kill. Guns and crime go together. A study conducted by the American Journal of Public Health found that the legal purchase of a gun seems to be associated with an increased risk of violent death. Every year, Americans are shocked by numerous mass shootings and senseless acts of violence involving guns and weapons. And, every year around 100,000 people are shot among which 18,000 are children and teens (Lane, 131).
The following argument is in favor of gun control. The restrictions on guns in place today are not nearly sufficient considering the level of gun violence seen on a daily basis. In the article “Stronger Gun Control Laws Will Save Lives” it is stated, “The fact is that very few federal laws regulate the manufacture, sale or possession of firearms, and those currently on the books are filled with loopholes or significantly tie the hands of law enforcement.” Arming citizens would not reduce crime or allow for self-defense, it would merely place guns into the wrong hands of people who are not trained enough or mentally stable to handle them. This is why there are so many school shootings and public massacres on television constantly broadcasted
Majority of the people who oppose gun control believe that it violates the Second Amendment. The Revere Journal says that “In terms of the substance of the Second Amendment, the notion of a militia has no practical meaning today relative to what that term meant in the late 18th century. We are long past the days when farmers left the fields to become de facto soldiers, or when posses were rounded up to chase outlaws, or when settlers were on their own in a hostile environment. Some pretend that a lifestyle that no longer exists still has meaning in the America of the 21st century.” The people that agree on needing strict gun control laws will find a stronger connection to this image compared to the people who oppose
