Love doesn’t always have to be between two people. It can be self love. In the novel, Juliette learns to love who she is. She may have stumbled and had doubts, but in the end she found a way to love who she truly was. But, love can also be found between two people, like Juliette and Adam. Both went through so much together to reach love. Yes, Juliette always found Adam attractive but never accepted it to herself. And lastly, there is brotherly love. Between Adam and James, the two have a bond that is incredibly strong. Love created that and love cannot be broken. Therefore their bond cannot be broken. In the novel, Shatter Me, love is always needed for the progression in oneself and relationships. James and Adam have brotherly love. No matter how long they 're apart, they always find a way to meet again. “The muffled sound of the impact, 2 bodies colliding, 2 voices too happy to be dangerous” (Mafi 210). Adam has been working for the reestablishment and hasn 't seen James in years. They are lucky to have each other to come back to. It doesn 't matter how long they 've been away from each other, they treat each other like they never were apart. “‘She can’t touch anyone except for you’...’That seems awfully convenient.’ James narrows his eyes” (Mafi 232). Adam and James being able to joke around and mess with each other keeps their relationship alive. Them being so close shows how much love they have. James and Adam have a bond that keeps each other sane. Them having trust for each other gives them security. “‘Don’t worry I’ll be here when you get back.’ ‘James hesitates.’ you promise?” (Mafi 234). Having trust for someone is showing love for that someone. If there was not trust, how could anyone love someone. James and Adam trust each other and it strengthens their love for each other.
