As a twelve year old, I was often asked to babysit young children. Starting off caring for young family members quickly escalated to other babies and toddlers, which gave me an astounding sense of responsibility. My father is one of seven children, making my family rather large. I grew up surrounded by seventeen younger cousins, which immediately allowed me to experience how babies and young children act on a daily basis. Exposure to people who can not function fully on their own assisted me and built me into who I am today. Gaining such experiences with people at such a young age gave me substantial qualities of being trustworthy, caring, and responsible, ultimately leading me to pursue a nursing career in my future. About eight months ago, my aunt gave birth to a tiny baby girl named Gianna. They live less than five miles away from me, allowing me to always be available to help out. I was constantly racing to their house in my free time to play with the baby and do what I could to help my aunt and her husband. As soon as they were home from the hospital, I was helping my aunt change diapers, bathe the baby, feed her, and dress her. I even went to their house to watch the baby so my aunt could sleep. When my aunt went back to work, I was frequently asked to babysit, sometimes for entire days at a time. …show more content…
The outstanding nursing program is what initially drew me to attend SIUE. My goal at SIUE is to harness these qualities in order to help people in a time of need. I yearn to care for people who can not fully care for themselves on their own. I hope to be a part in helping patients return to full health and get them back to their everyday lives once again. Attending SIUE and taking part in the nursing program would allow me to graduate college with incomparable credentials and provide me with a number of available jobs to pursue in the work
When I was a little girl I knew that I wanted to be a Nursery Nurse like my aunt. I was the child who used to always want to play schools with my peers or the children in my family (poor things!). I also used to sit my teddies in a row so they could see the story I was reading them. I had my own display board for my children’s (teddies’) work. I created registers and my very own going home box out of a shoebox.
Growing as the youngest, with the knowledge and wisdom from others I have gained a lot. Born in Ohio where criminal minds are at stake and raised in Selma with less opportunity. Not having a father figure for all of my 16 years is pretty different. Having most things not handed to you but earned being the youngest of 3, mentioning over 5+ people in one roof is not easy. However, through all the obstacles there was still a way.
By using these skills, I can also practice comparing and contrasting the many ways of dealing with problems a child might cause, and determine the best course of action to resolve a real-life situation in real time. Growing up, my parents never took me to daycare instead they let my grandparents take care of me, on one hand, I would get spanked if I did something wrong and on the other, my Grandma would give me M&M’s from my grandfather’s secret candy stash, and being raised with two different families made me realize the pros and cons of each. Being with two different families showed me different ways to care for a child, and how the method is chosen can affect the child in the future. Although I had loving grandparents who gave sweets every day , I also had stern ones who helped show me how to survive the daily world.
Their everyday craziness and irresponsibility on many days, is what allows me to be somewhat of another parental figure, as I am carpooling, cooking dinner on occasions, helping with homework and being a person they can talk to about friends and
As a mom who will be returning to the workforce after graduation an issue that is important to me and I’m sure many other parents as well is finding a local, safe, educational, affordable childcare to send my daughter to while I’m working. I want to find a place where I feel like my child will grow and learn new things, but also a place where I feel she is safe and well-cared for. Ideally I would love to leave her with family, but due to geographic locations, daycare is looking like the best option.
My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
I have decided to pursue nursing and apply for the second degree accelerated nursing program; I consider myself a highly motivated individual with a value of strong work ethic. I can certainly distinguish myself as a person with numerous interests, a range of skills and goals. My Goals are to become a highly skilled nurse, work for the united state military and help save lives. Just like my father, I would love to provide a great humanitarian service, not for the pay or the glory or the recognition but to save lives, give hope, provide care, love and touch
I enjoy being there for my grandmother and cleaning her house or doing some picking up here and there as long as I have her company there while I do the work, I don't mind one bit. It's important to me to have strong family values because I feel it makes me a better person and helps me to never forget where I came from. I remember in middle school I did community service and the feeling you get from knowing that you’re being a small part of helping someone in need is a satisfying feeling. I went to Feed the Children to package boxes with everyday necessities. I also have spent some time at the food bank helping packing food for those in need.
I was not born into the world to do everything, but I was born into the world with great intentions; intentions to make a difference, to be an outstanding leader, ambassador, and advocate to serve and give back to the society. Ever since I have known myself, I have always wanted to become a nurse. A hardship that has made me stronger is, after my first semester in the pre-nursing
Looking from a child to an adult I now understand why the adults in the neighborhood watched over everyone. It taught me a that there is strength in numbers and love conquers all. Growing up the fourth girl of five kids wasn’t tough or awkward for me. I am the baby girl, therefore I got away with a lot. I learned early on I was different, but could not comprehend whether it was in a good/bad way as a child.
I became interested in working with children because I grew up in a home with many children from many different age groups. My mother has been a home daycare provider for 25 years. As I grew older, I began to help my mother take care of the children. I would help feed them, play with them, and assist with arts and crafts. Once I became more mature, I started babysitting and nannying for many families at my mother's daycare.
I am currently an undergraduate at Rowan College at Gloucester County completing my pre-nursing studies. As I was growing up, I always enjoyed the idea of helping and healing others. My inspiration to become a nurse was watching my mother make a difference in the lives of elderly at a local senior living community as an Activities Assistant for years. Even though, she was unable to go back to school due to personal circumstances, the compassion she showed towards others around her was something special as she took care of them as if they were relatives. Whenever I had free time, I would just sit and play a game with the elderly residents hearing their life stories from when they were young.
A couple of weeks before I turned eight my little brother was born. They have impacted my life way more than they realize. Being an older sister has shaped me into the person I am today in school and class, because I’ve learned how to cope with different things, learned that people like to do things their own way and I have learned how to set a good example. I have learned how to cope with things I don’t like very much being a big sister.
I have a heart for service and a strong desire to make a difference in people’s lives. Becoming a nurse I will be able to fulfill my passion of making a positive impact on individual lives on a daily basis. I will be able to fulfill my nurturing and caring desires of helping others. I’m very passionate and fascinated with the medical field in all aspects. I strive for excellence, integrity and love interacting with all diversity of people.
Babysitting can be one of them most difficult and expensive things you can do. I wanted to find out what it was like to take care of kids for a couple days, so I decided to ask my uncle to let me babysit my cousins for a weekend. Babysitting For Me was hard because of all the tasks I had to do. It just so happen that the kids were bad so that also added to the problem. Babysitting for the whole weekend was expensive, I spent more than half of my money on the kids.
