Why I Want To Be A Surgeon Essay

When I graduate from high school I'd like to be a surgeon. I want to be a surgeon because it seems like a cool and interesting job. I think it would be an amazing experience to hold a human heart. I first saw this job and got really interested in it because of a T.V. show, Greys Anatomy. This career is important because it saves lives. It helps people with tumors, heart problems, and people who have injuries to be fixed and live longer. The information I found out about surgeons and surgery has helped me decide that I'd like to be a surgeon.
Surgery is an older practice that has evolved over hundreds of years. Surgery goes back to the Neolithic and pre-classical ages (Hartford Stage). Surgeons were mostly barbers, also known as barber surgeons.

A bachelors degree and MD/DO are required and doctorate and post doctorate training. They must pass a medical college admission test (MCAT) after getting a bachelors degree. Four years of med school and 4 years of undergraduate study must be done. After getting degrees a fellowship needs to be completed along with getting certification. After certification, they must do 3-8 years of residency/internship in a hospital and work with actual surgeons to decide which specialty to take on (Study.com).
Like most jobs, surgeons work in a particular place, this place is a hospital. Some are private and others are public. They work lengthy hours; more than 24 hours straight. There are on-call rooms where they get to sleep when they have a chance, which isn’t very often. Surgeons must work closely with other medical professionals and have lots of contact with patients and their families. They wear protective clothing and operate in theatre rooms (Surgeon General).
There are many other professions that are like surgery. Dentists, nurses, podiatrists, and veterinarians are most like this field. Others are physicians, health care practitioners, chiropractors, optometrists, and physicians assistants (Career Guide: Physicians and
