At the University of Northern Arizona in October of 2015 Steven Jones came to school and shot four students and killed one. He was charged with first degree murder. Now imagine you were a student at that school wouldn't you want a student or teacher to be able to stop the shooter before it got this far? College Students in the United States should be aloud to conceal carry on campus. Concealed weapons on campus would help protect colleges in the U.S. by having armed students and staff on campus. The armed students will be able to stop a shooting before it gets out of hand. They will be saving lives and help to protect other students in the school. And if the shooter knows that they allow concealed carry he might not try at all. Just knowing that the school allows firearms on campus would make people think twice about doing anything to that school. The vibe of the school would feel safer and …show more content…
More than likely if the student can’t carry a weapon on campus he won't carry it off campus. But if they were allowed to carry it on campus they would more than likely carry it off campus too. So this means the student will be able to defend himself. And it doesn't have to just be school shootings He could be robbed or he could see someone in distress not just in the school but anywhere the student could be. The person could protect people who can't always rely on the police. Concealed carry in the U.S. has always been a big deal. People think that it's unsafe and all it will do is hurt people. Then there's the side that approves of concealed carry. Now the new topic is concealed carry on college campuses. The colleges who have passed this have had less shootings and less problems at the school. The kids at the schools feel safer and that's a good thing to feel safe. The colleges with concealed carry are all around safer colleges. They have dropped crimes in campus by a large
According to Kenzie Kesselring, allowing guns on college campuses is a horrible idea. Not only is dangerous to college students’ well-being, but it also threatens the institution of collegiate learning altogether (Stroud, K.). Moreover, open gun carry can make students fearful for their safety; they will no longer be comfortable debating or being themselves. Some students might even be distracted knowing that at any moment someone in their classroom could be legally carrying a gun. Would you feel safe sitting next to somebody who holds a gun?
By reading both of these two article about guns control, I can only say the they both the authors make sense in a way, for example we take David Burnett’s, director of public relations for ‘Students for Concealed Carry on Campus (SCCC) article "Students Should Have the Right to Carry Guns on College Campuses.” In his article “Students Should Have the Right to Carry guns on College Campuses”, on the issue of banning guns on college campuses. Burnett’s strongly agrees and he defends his view in support of a student’s right to having concealed firearms with permit. Burnett uses statistics about ‘gun-free’ colleges and how being gun free doesn’t necessarily mean crime free. He uses the crime statistics from two colleges in Colorado to support this.
The issue of concealed carry is one that evokes heated debate upon mention. One one hand, concealed carry allows people to defend themselves in public, should the situation arrive. One the other hand, concealed carry may cause unnessecary shootings, or accidents. Both sides of the debate have valid concerns.
If somone in all these cases of college shooting or any school shooting if one person had a gun and stopped the guy then there would be less people dead and less injured. Guns in school a good idea what about having guns in military recruiting
Students today live their day-to-day lives in constant fear of what seems inevitable. The United States has one of the highests rates of school shootings in the world. Society has become so desensitized to these shootings that they are no longer shocked to hear about another school falling victim to it. Even when students take a stand against gun violence, the only solution offered to them is a proposition to arm teachers. However, bringing more guns into a school will only further deteriorate the situation.
(Smith, T.N. 2012) The students and staff while on campus who are protecting themselves or another should not be subject to arrest or be punished for a crime. Students need to properly educate the public on the benefits of carrying guns on the campus. By states not allowing guns on campus it is making a target for the shootings. Research says there are more rapes, assaults, and robberies than killings.
Violent criminals know that currently schools are gun free zones, and can use this factor to their advantage. Rather than falling victim to an attack on the school; teachers could protect themselves and their students. Students could feel much safer if their teacher was armed. Students would feel more safe if they knew they could be protected from an attack from an intruder or another student. Criminals know that teachers currently are not armed and could potentially see schools as a target.
This should not be a worry for the child or parents but it has to be because at this point any school is a threat. So a possible factor in decreasing shootings is arming teachers, by doing this teachers can fight back instead of shielding or running from the shooter. Reason #2 teachers can defend their students by changing this law and using correct training teachers should be able to carry a weapon. By doing this not only insure safety it will give relief for parents all over the country. This tactic will give school staffs a chance to outnumber a possible shooter.
Concealed Carry on College Campuses Concealed carry on college campuses is an ongoing controversy in today’s society. There are a lot of questions and valid points from both sides of agreement and disagreement. The following essay will answer the readers’ questions about concealed carry and persuade them to agree with the right side.
Several studies mention that licensed concealed carry weapons aren’t involved in crimes that happen on campus. Certain individuals that do commit crimes on and off campus, generally don’t go through background checks to obtain legal concealed weapons. Gun permit requirements vary by state but most require that applicants are the legal minimum age, complete a safety course and have sound criminal and mental histories (Collins). Allowing students to carry concealed weapons on campus could be considered dangerous; however, having these students’ complete safety courses and go through testing that proves they are mentally capable could prevent it from being dangerous. Certain campuses also don’t allow students to carry conceal in classrooms or in dorms.
There has been a long standing debate in America regarding open carry. Some people believe that open carry will help protect others from harm. Recently, on June 1, 2015, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed the Campus Carry Law, allowing licensed holders to carry a handgun on college and university campuses, effective next year, August 1, 2016. Gun Control laws need to be controlled, that is indeed true, proven by the 335 public shootings in the country this year alone. Open carry will not be a solution to this growing problem, it may in fact help increase its numbers.
Firstly, the arming of students, faculty and staff should be prohibited because its unsafe. The debate on whether staff, faculty and students should carry firearms on campuses has been going for years now. Some colleges have debated that a law should be passed were staff and faculty should carry firearms on campus, but other colleges have dismissed this case because it is dangerous and unsafe. According to Jesus Villahermosa’s essay “Guns don’t belong in the Hands of Administrators, Professors, or Students” he states, “I agree that allowing guns on campuses will create problems, not solve them.” This statement is true because not everyone is capable to handle a gun or even use one.
It states that our nation was in one of the worst spasms of violence with guns alone at colleges. This article also states that over the past few years, almost fifteen states have made it a whole lot easier for teachers, students and even administrators to carry concealed weapons on campus. Starting in August of 2016, Texas Lawmakers are going to make carrying a concealed weapon on campus legal. The main point I get from this article is that everyone thinks that the law enforcement should be the only ones to be able to carry concealed weapons on or around college
Lot of times instead shooting the shooter students might miss the target shoot other people. In addition, when police comes it will be very hard for him to find the initial shooter. Most importantly, every person who carries gun can be shooter and there will be not much of difference between the shooter and student. So we should allow guns in campus at
In order to nurture a healthy learning environment at America’s schools and universities, it is critical that students as well as faculty feel safe on campus. Recent pandemonium of violent crimes on campus has many pro-gun activists suggesting that both the Students and Teachers should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on
