The Element The Scarecrow was a counterpart for the farmers, also known as the populists. The scarecrow moved the story along by being with Dorothy. He was found along the way of the journey. He was brought down from a pole, Dorothy helped him. The Scarecrow helped Dorothy by being loyal and friendly to her and her other friends. He gave Dorothy ideas and ways to get back home. Another thing that the Scarecrow moved the story along by helping Dorothy 's friends from being attacked by the Kalidah’s. In the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, chapter 7 page 28 says, “‘So they sat down to consider what they should do, and after serious thoughts the Scarecrow said:”Here is a great tree, standing close to the ditch. If the Tin Woodman can chop it down, so that it will fall to the other side, we can walk across it easily.’” This shows that the Scarecrow moved the story along because of the Scarecrow didn 't think …show more content…

The farmers rarely had education, they were also mocked when they attempted to be included in politics. The scarecrow 's head was also stuffed with straw. Both farmers and the scarecrow weren 't able to do their jobs. In the beginning of the book the scarecrow was stuck on a pole he wasn 't able to scare crows away. The farmers couldn 't provide for their family because they lacked power and money to effectively work on their farms, they were stuck in bad economy. In the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in chapter 4 page 17 it says, ’’’I wonder if that farmer thought to fool me in this clumsy manner. Any crow of sense could see that you are only stuffed with straw.’ Then he hopped down at my feet and ate all the corn he wanted. The other birds, seeing that he was not harmed by me, came to eat the corn too, so in.
