Yellowstone National Park is one of the most visited parks in America located primarily in Wyoming but also spans to other u.s states such as Montana and Idaho it contains a Supervolcano called the Yellowstone caldera which is the largest volcano in north America. Yellowstone national park first became a park when congress signed a law enabling it to be in 1872 this made Yellowstone the first national park in the whole world. Yellowstone national park is well known for its wildlife that exists at the park it features many animals living in its ecosystem such as lions, reindeers and many more other fascinating creatures. What draws people to Yellowstone is its recreational activities that are offered such as fishing, bungee jumping, hiking, …show more content…
Many science organizations have agreed that the probability of another super eruption is a low probability chances are quite slim with estimates being a minimum of 1 in 730,000. Technology has gotten better and scientists are better able to detect a possible eruption before it happens due to the many warnings that would appear. There are some warnings before volcanic eruptions occur such as multiple minor earthquakes, land uplift, gas releases through the many small holes which help relieve pressure. In an article by the NSF which stands for National Science Foundation scientists believe that another eruption wouldn’t occur for another 1-2 million years because based on research of its caldera cluster the volcano is undergoing its dying cycle rather than its ramping up cycle. The foundation states that “by studying the pattern behavior of the cycles and its previous eruptions by examining the rock minerals in the vicinity they’re given better clues to suggest the volcano is on its calm stage”. The last major eruption from the Yellowstone Caldera dropped many inches of ashes into the lands and sulfur up into the atmosphere which caused a volcanic winter. How does all these particles in the air cause a volcanic winter one may ask. Sulfur dioxide in the air reflects sunlight & radiation back into space without this sunlight temperatures decrease and crops are devastated. The last major volcanic eruption to do such a thing was in 1815 the Tambora eruption in an island of Indonesia which decreased worldwide temperature by 4 degrees and killed over 71,000 people during the eruption. In the picture below we get a better understanding of how much ash would fall in the surrounding vicinity measured in terms of
Everglades National Park is one of the largest and most-well known national parks in the United States. This national park is special in that it was not preserved for its wonders, but because of the conservation and protection of its fragile ecosystem. Everglades National Park currently covers 1,509,000 acres of land (stretching through Dade, Collier and Monroe county), making it the third largest national park in the contiguous 48 states smaller than Death Valley National Park and Yellowstone National Park. The Everglades is located on the southern section of the Florida Peninsula.
Sequoia – Kings Canyon National Park is located in eastern California in the Sierra Nevada Range west of Death Valley. It has interesting geological features that can resemble those in Yosemite National Park. It contains various geological elements that enhance its appearance and history, resulting in an interest in the park by a variety of scientists and explorers. The park contains the largest groves of giant sequoias and covers over 1300 square miles. (Harris, 2004)
Spencer Bennett Dr. Field Structural Geology 312 November 13, 2014 The Lithology and Structure of the Grand Teton Range, Wyoming Abstract Wyoming’s Grand Teton range has a vast variety of rock units, along with an assortment of ages and names. Along with the variety of lithology that the Teton Range has to offer it also has a unique normal fault the has down dropped Jackson Hole and up lifted the Teton range.
Upton Sinclair was part of the group of people who wanted to improve the meat packing industry. He started to protest after going to investigate the Chicago Packingtown strike. Upton’s investigation led him to find that there were poor working conditions, and poor sanitation in the factory. There was diseased and rotten meat, and later, it was found that there was chemicals that are harmful to humans put into the meat. Also, it was found that many products were mislabeled.
Traveling over 1,500 miles, through what would become the four states of Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, and finally Montana, the fugitive Nez Perce kept moving – they were determined to reach safety for themselves and their families. Their long journey took them through the newly established Yellowstone National Park where they encountered several groups of tourists. The journey lasted more than three months, across mountains, rivers, and prairies. The U.S. Army, commanded by General Oliver O. Howard, pursued them most of the way until Colonel Nelson A. Miles took over the chase. There were many battles -- White Bird Canyon, Clearwater, Big Hole, Camas Meadows, and Canyon Creek.
Quechee, Vermont was settled in the 1970’s. In the 1800’s in Quechee, the mills grew quickly and the population also grew, “And because the water needed to generate power is usually stronger lower down the mountain, this helped to spur what was to become a common Vermont pattern: the movement of industry, and population away from the hilltops and into the valleys” (Albers 156). In the 1950’s, the mills were starting to close.
I hope the federal government makes the right decision on making this a National Park. Come on, it would be amazingly exciting, and it would bring more money to our country if you thought about it. I thought the government was all about the people? If so, think about the people this time and make this
so Yellowstone was the First National Park in America Yellowstone is over 2 million acres. It needed protection and Nathaniel Langford was offered the job of superintendent. He did not do a very good job and for only visited the park twice in five years. He was also waiting for the Northern Pacific Railroad to get to the area, which it did in 1883 bringing many tourists.
There are many natural disasters that affect the world, for example, volcanoes. Mount St. Helens is known to be the most active volcano in the Cascade Range in Washington; effecting the people and the state. It was first recognized as a volcano in 1835! Before the eruption on May 18,1980, Mount St. Helens was a beautiful symmetrical cone, 3,000 meters above sea level. For most of the 20th century, many people viewed this mountain and recreation area as a beautiful and peaceful place, but after the volcano erupted in 1980 that view point was shattered.
Second, Yellowstone doesn't have any volcanos above ground like Hawaii. The super volcano is under all the attractions. Yellowstone does get earthquakes frequently. When a earthquake hits that's high on Richter scale people fear that the super volcano could erupt, but the chances of it erupting are very low. To conclude, Yellowstone and Hawaii have geological activity, but you never know when a super volcano will
However, the eruption on May 18th was a true surprise. Within minutes, the mountain went from calm and quiet to become one of the greatest powerful natural disaster ever recorded in the U.S-
In Hawaiian Haleakala means “House of the sun.” Haleakala National Park is located in the island of Maui, Hawaii. “Maui’s two eroded volcanoes, Haleakala and West Maui, were once part of a large volcanic massif made up of six major volcanoes. When sea level was lower, during the coldest times of the Pleistocene Epoch, the six volcanoes formed one island.” Haleakala is a part of the Kea trend of volcanoes that includes West Maui, Mauna Kea and Kohala volcanoes.
The National Park Service offers many important things to the United States. In the article, "A Monumental Fight," Katy Steinmetz states that national parks offer the use of scientific exploration, historical research, and tourism for travelers (32). Park lovers voice out that parks are a part of history and is the home for many animals. While others are arguing that the National Parks might need a cut in funds.
On May 18th, 1980, Mount Saint Helen, a volcano in Washington erupted majorly. The eruption is the most studied volcano eruption. Mt. St. Helen was known as one of the most prestige volcanoes in the Cascade Range before its eruption on May 18, 1980. The eruption made a big blast that destroyed the northern part of the volcano, crushing millions of the trees below the mountain. The zone was further described as a big debris avalanche.
From walking your dog, to playing with your kids, the park is the perfect place for endless outdoor activities and events. The park is a door to escape the harshness of the world and return to reality with a new mind set on the world. Most public parks offer amazing sceneries of nature from plants and trees to wildlife. The presence of nature warms my heart bringing relaxation and peace upon my body and
