Abstract
9/11 is a day that many will never forget. Terrorist high jacked four planes and flew them into predetermined locations. 3000 people died in The World Trade Center alone. Several of these were first responders. First responders were faced with several issues. Planning, communication, and operating procedures were amongst the top of the list. Could we ever truly have a plan in place for an attack as large as this one was? Some say, yes. Several new policies and procedures have been implemented to fix the problems that were brought out by the attack on 9/11.
First Responders
First responders are firefighters, police

Each plane had a distinctive destination. These locations included The World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and an undisclosed location, which we will never know. The terrorist had a calculated plan and initiated an attack so horrible that three hundred and forty three firefighters and paramedics lost their lives. Twenty three New York City police officers and thirty seven Port Authority police officers were also killed.
Could we have had less casualties if we, our nation, was better prepared? After having several years to research and look back many would agree that yes, we could have done better. A few problems that arose during 9/11 included being unprepared for large incidents, not being able to communicate with various locations and multiple people frequently, and not meeting standard operating procedures at the ports.
One problem that the first responders faced was the magnitude of the incident was unseen. No one had ever witnessed an attack as large as this one. At first glance it looked as if one plane was under attack. Little did we know, in a short period of time it would be four planes total. There has been some investigations as to how to handle another situation like this if one ever occurs. Giving what little we knew then and what we think we know now, could we ever really have a plan in place for something of this

There was no way of knowing what operating procedures were missed during the attack on 9/11 due to the unforeseen magnitude of the situation. Radio towers and cellular towers were only able to handle so much.
Since 9/11 many changes have taken place. Visa applicants will now be fingerprinted, screened and double checked against previous fingerprints to make certain that their fingerprint match that of their visas. The improved terrorist watch list is widely accessible to all states of government and even airports. A Terrorist Surveillance Program has also been implemented. This will help keep communication lines open.
Although these changes have taken place, I truly believe that the first responders did everything in their power to provide aid to the victims of 9/11. Through pure determination their actions saved lives and inspired a
Even though the emergency responders for the world trade center on 9/11 were able to save a lot of lives they still had some flaws in their plan which if avoided could have reduced the number of responders life lost. The biggest flaw that caused a lot of deaths was the lack of inter-department communication and collaboration. The two largest emergency department’s that responded to the tragic event were the police department and the fire department and lack of team work led to certain causalities. For example, according to The New York Times, twenty-one minutes before the building fell, warnings were captured on police radio tapes which was then relayed to police officers and lead to escape of most of them.
9-12: Post-9/11 America “doug robinson: before and after 9/11” “9/11: the week before - the atlantic” “while america slept: the true story of 9/11 - NBC” “9 things you should know about the aftermath of 9/11” .hunter wade. How have the events of 9/11 and its aftermath shaped what it means to be an American? Consider the actions the government has taken after these events, how it changed people 's lives and how you think of yourself living in a post-9/11 America. “Consider that before September 11, 2001, there was no cohesive system in place to vet passengers in advance of flying; only limited technologies in place for uncovering a wide array of threats to passengers or aircraft; no comprehensive federal requirements to screen checked or carry-on baggage; and only minimal in-flight security on most flights” People stood frozen in front of their TVs for hours watching in disbelief as replays showed airlines fly into buildings and skyscrapers tumble before 9/11 you could stroll to the gate at the airport without a ticket and greet family and friends as they arrived or see them off as they
On that day, more than three thousand people died including innocent civilians, firefighters, and passengers on those airplanes. The cruel act from the terrorists cannot be ignored and pushed aside. The government needed to step in and do something. This would be an unforgettable tragedy that will remain in the history of the United States forever.
Laws and regulations passed after the attack on September 11, 2001 have been helpful to American society, because security takes more measurements to insurance the safety of people getting on airplanes. The rules and regulations on flying have gotten stricter for passengers and luggage screening. Machinery and procedures are constantly evolving to scan for any type of destructive items or weapons. The attack of 9/11 offset security cost, due to security having to increase and take more precautions than before the attack. Pilots are now allowed to carry a firearm and act as a federal officer aboard the plane.
Many lives were lost on that day. There was an immeasurable amount of sorrow, emptiness, and confusion among New York residents, and terrible fear and panic across the rest of the United States. The country lost approximately three thousand people to this unforgettable attack. Over three hundred firemen, cops, and paramedics sacrificed their lives to help others who might not have otherwise made it, the ultimate show of dedication to their jobs and passion for helping others(“911 Death Statistics”). “In addition to the loss of life, survivors were exposed to hazardous dust and debris from the collapse of the buildings, and many people endured psychological trauma” (Murphy).
In a disaster situation, the first instinct people have, no matter the circumstance, is to escape. On September 11, 2001, that exact thought was running through the heads of those in the Twin Towers, but unfortunately, many people were not able to make it out as the result of the impact of the plane, which would not have been as lethal if the buildings were properly built. The sources used as evidence for this claim include 102 Minutes, written by Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn, an excerpt from the Encyclopedia of U.S. History, written by Sonia Benson, an article written by Thomas W. Eager and Christopher Musso, and separate articles, one written by Will Knight and the other by Jim Dwyer. The faulty construction of the Twin Towers was the greatest
Overtime, the United States has had many unexpected situations, causing panic, chaos and unawareness of what actions to take. A well known example of this are the September 11 attacks in New York in 2001. There are several sources, including Jim Dwyer, Kevin Flynn, Joel Roberts and Kate Ascher that provide evidence in relation to having effective communication in a crisis. Although many other thoughts and theories on what serves the best purpose in a crisis, such as quantity of communication, have emerged, good communication is always crucial during an issue.
Government Facilities Sector is one of the largest and most complex sectors of the 17 critical infrastructures that’s included in the National Infrastructure Protection Plan. The Department of Homeland Security, General Services Administration and the Federal Protective Service (FPS) were given the responsibilities as co-leads and Federal interface for this sector by PPD-21. The government facilities sector will arrange for the protection, safety, and security of all government assets, employees, and visitors to the facilities under its sector, as well as balanced management of physical and cyber risk, so that essential government functions and services are preserved without disruption. The execution of this will require GFS to reduce the nations
September 11 left lasting effects on the citizens of the U.S. As George W. Bush told us, “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of
Others argue that 9/11 had more tragedy than humanity, but they are very mistaken. 9/11 had struck much tragedy, but still others kept people safe and gave them everything they needed. “They spent the next three days in that town, where the mayor and most of the residents cooked elaborate meals, let them use their showers, even borrow their cars. ”(Gander) These people gave the damaged victims hope and safety along with the sense of family.
The attacks of September 11, 2001 on our country was one of the most tragic and deadly days in our history. It brought a country together and the American strength of freedom and unity became a battle cry. After the dust had cleared, the questions came about that asked, how could this have happened? Were there not security and intelligence infrastructures and policies in place?
The terrorist attacks on 9/11 have caused many debates over the years since they occurred back in 2001. Two American planes were hijacked and ran into the twin tower buildings, another was hijacked and headed for the pentagon, but thankfully never made it. Thousands of Americans lost their lives on the days of the attacks and to this day the sorrow hangs with us. Security was a huge debate of the time because America is supposed to be the safest nation there is, so how did this happen? America had lots of changes to make the attacks on September 11, 2001.
All of these events demonstrated that al-Qaeda could carry out terrifying attacks thousands of miles away from its base in Afghanistan. Al- qaeda’s leaders did not care about their gruesome actions. In their minds, God was on their side so they could do no wrong. Many people to this day still question our government about the 9/11 attacks and why someone did not take action before it got to this point.
It is almost sixteen years since that fear was imposed on us and the age of terror began in earnest. From the moment the Twin Towers fell, 9/11 was seen as a watershed, a historical turning point of grand and irreversible proportions. With the acrid smoke still swirling above ground zero, the mantras repeated constantly were that 9/11 had ?changed everything that nothing would ever be the same.? By now we see those mantras for what they were: natural, perhaps inevitable, exaggerations in the face of
9/11: The Day That Changed America Forever On September 11, 2001, nineteen terrorists boarded four planes, all transcontinental flights full of jet fuel. 9/11 became the first of many hijackings in the United States. The terrorists turned two flights into flying weapons of destruction, knocking down America’s tallest buildings. The third plane rammed into the Pentagon and the fourth plane was crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
