Araminta Harriet Tubman's Life
Araminta Harriet Ross was born into slavery around 1820 in Maryland. After many years of slavery, violence, and other daily hardships, she married a free man by the name of John Tubman and changed her name to Harriet. She was still a slave while she was married, but after the death of her owner in 1849, she successfully escaped. But instead of staying in the north, she risked her freedom and went back to became a conductor of the underground railroad. She also remarried and adopted a child named Gertie after her years on the “tracks”. When Harriet came of old age, her injuries from earlier in life started causing problems. Harriet Tubman died of pneumonia in 1913.
