Miranda Kenneally is the author of many inspiring books with her most popular being similar to Catching Jordan, including Stealing Parker and Racing Savannah. Catching Jordan demonstrates that females can play football and be one of the guys, but also maintain a relationship. The purpose of Catching Jordan was to show that girls can play football and be one of the guys, while maintaining to talk and have a relationship with boys. The main character of this book is Jordan Woods. She is not your typical seventeen year old girl. She hangs out with all the football guys, is physically built like guys and is the starting quarterback on her high school's football team. She isn’t trying to get attention or trying to show off by being a girl who plays football, that’s her personality. Her best friend’s name is Henry, who she has known since she was a kid and …show more content…
This book shows that you can do anything you want to if you set your mind to it. Jordan was dedicated to playing football and put a lot of time into it. I liked how the book tied in love with the main theme of if you have a goal, you can reach it, by bringing in Henry and Ty. Once I read that Jordan was the starting quarterback on the football team, my first hypothesis was that she was going to be picked on and made fun of, only to realize that they accept her as one of the guys. I think that the book had a good ending and didn’t leave the reader questioning what will or would happen in the future. Even though Keneally has written other books that are similar, she doesn’t tie them in with each other so each book has it’s own definite

Emily Hontiveros Ms. Albuquerque English I - Honors 13 October 2014 The Chocolate War: Chapters 11-20 Response Journals Something I dislike in the novel is the amount of sport terminology used. I find it confusing to refer to football “language” throughout scenes where significant events occur. “He had expected Carter to blitz and instead the big guard had pulled back and skirted the line, annihilating Jerry from behind (page 76).
Jordan is also faced with the question of whether to go to her dream school, Alabama, and be used as a trophy girl or go to a smaller university, Michigan State, and be able to actually play
The player strides onto the field. Left foot, right foot, and another pounding left foot. It is up to the player to make the finishing play in the ultimate showdown between the two teams. The player can feel the immense pressure building up as the crowd keeps shrieking and rooting for him as he tries to carry the team to an unlikely win as the clock keeps ticking. It is either win now or go home a loser because it is the terminating championship game.
In the nonfiction novel Belichick and Brady by Michael Holley, the main point of the book is to describe how the pair has changed the game of football forever. This book is about arguably the best quarterback ever to play in the NFL, and how he and his coach went out to win five superbowls, and have various other records for wins and statistics. The book talks about a specific moment to describe Bill Belichick’s genius when dealing with troublesome players, “Belichick knew that he wasn’t going to trade or release law, and that training camp was four months away. He was going to let him talk, he didn't offer a single word in response” (113). This part goes to show how Belichick carefully calculates every part of his career, even things as small
Over break I read two books “The running Dream” and “The Lost Deer Camp. ”At the beginning of break I read “The Running Dream” it is about a teen girl named Jessica who loves to run. Than one day on her way back home with her track team on the bus, the bus gets hit. Jessica ends up losing her right leg up to right below her knee cap. Jessica didn’t know what to do, as she slowly got better, she started to wonder if she would ever get to run again.
The event I disliked the most was Scott quitting basketball. I didn’t like this because I wanted to see Nick and his brother play together on the same team because then I don’t think that their parents would have gotten divorced. Another thing I didn’t like about the book is that Nick’s parents left each other. If that didn’t happen then Nick would’ve been closer to his dad so he could get better at basketball all the time. The last thing I didn’t like about the book is that the reader never got to meet Nick’s Dad’s girlfriend.
Walter Dean Myers novel Hoops is about a young black boy, Lonnie, who dreams of becoming a professional basketball player, "My game is my fame, and I knew it was together" (2). Coming from a broken home and living in a bad neighborhood, Lonnie sees that becoming a basketball player could be his escape from Harlem. Lonnie has a bad relationship with his mother to the point where he doesn't even sleep in her house sometimes. Instead he sleeps in the hotel he works at. While at the hotel one day Lonnie sees across the street that the gas station was being rob, taking this as an advantage Lonnie runs across the street and steals a case of alcohol planning to sell it.
My book Kid Owner by Tim Green is about a kid named Ryan who loves football. Ryan’s mom doesn’t agree with Ryan about football. Ryan wants to play football but Ryan’s mom wants him to keep playing soccer. Ryan’s never met his father and when Ryan’s father had passed away he had left Ryan the Dallas Cowboy’s. At the end of the summer, Brian is in for the best weekend of his life when the Tigers have a home stand with Hank currently sitting at 499 career home runs. I really liked this book because I could relate well with the main character. Brian is the same age as me and we both like baseball. The plot is very interesting and the end, although predictable, is satisfying.
Have you ever felt like you were underappreciated in a sport from your coaches, well this was the problem for 11 year old Ben McBain. In the novel Game Changers written by Mike Lupica the story is told by Ben McBain an 11 year old boy who has hopes of being the new football teams starting quarterback but while Shawn O’Brien is on the team there is little to no luck. Shawn O’Brien is placed as starting quarterback groomed by his father a former professional quarterback in this novel Ben is struck with the conflicting choice of being a good teammate or going after his own dream. In the novel Game Changers by Mike Lupica the author uses the literary elements of the novel in a quite particular way in which leaves not only questioning but also
Another thing I really liked was the way they made the family characters of mom, dad, and Scott. But my favorite thing was the way that they developed Nick’s basketball skill throughout the story. There is a part in the story where somebody is shot by Zack (Trent’s brother) and Trent has to decide if he’s gonna go into running with him or stay for the big championship game with Nick. So I really enjoyed that part because it combined how much I like basketball and the excitement of whether or not Trent would stay or go. In the book it has dad only caring about Nick as much when he was a good basketball player, so I thought it was cool how they sort of betrayed him as a bad guy.
The book Batboy by Mike Lupica is a very inspirational book. Is playing baseball something you just quit or can you improvise and drive to learn. Can you help a bestie out? Darryl the main character has been playing baseball for years and had to be a leader and help one of his teammates out, so he has to drive him to become the better player. Hutch played shortstop but Darryl 's best friend was the shortstop until Hutch came and he was upset he had to play centerfield and came the better player.
Jordan wasn’t always a cynical, untrustworthy, insolent, and careless person that she is in the story, she used to be a nice, caring, mostly truthful girl that lived in Albany, New York. When Jordan was ten years of age she enjoyed playing with friends outside, looking pretty, and working hard at school. She had high grades in all of her classes except science, she would often forgot names of cells or make a mess with the experiments when she dropped the beakers out of fear of ruining her clothes. Jordan’s main friends were Daisy, Sarah, and John.
