In the nonfiction novel Belichick and Brady by Michael Holley, the main point of the book is to describe how the pair has changed the game of football forever. This book is about arguably the best quarterback ever to play in the NFL, and how he and his coach went out to win five superbowls, and have various other records for wins and statistics. The book talks about a specific moment to describe Bill Belichick’s genius when dealing with troublesome players, “Belichick knew that he wasn’t going to trade or release law, and that training camp was four months away. He was going to let him talk, he didn't offer a single word in response” (113). This part goes to show how Belichick carefully calculates every part of his career, even things as small …show more content…
When coming to the Patriots, Belichick quickly set his ideals in stone. It has provided success, and the only way to beat it is “with talent and smarts. And a willingness to fight” (388). Thus, the only way to win against the Patriots is to play their own game, which helps describe their dominance and the effect they have had on the game. Furthermore, After the Patriot’s Super Bowl win in 2015, Julian Edelman told Belichick, “‘I’ll do anything for you coach’” (346), demonstrating the profound impact Belichick had on the league and his own players. The Author achieves its purpose because the book shows us what goes on before the game. It really shows how much work goes into a 60 min game. They also go through the effort to show how good of a team the patriots are, and how much different they are from everyone else in the …show more content…
The strengths I can pick out is the extensive information that is included. The author truly goes beyond the interviews to get that personal connection that Brady and Belichick have together. He interviews players that used to play for Belichick as well as analyst and league insiders. He truly provides behind the scenes knowledge that most people could not access. Despite this, there are some weaknesses. One of these is the fact that some information just cannot be accessed. Personal discussions between Brady and Belichick cannot be determined, as well as team meetings and things of that nature. These things are private and limit the author's ability to develop the chemistry between Belichick and Brady. Also, some knowledge of football is required. Football terms such as safety and interception are used and if you do not know football, you may get confused and not follow the story as well.
Our overall reaction to this book is that it has a very good and understandable description of the life of a patriots. There isn’t a lot of fancy language to get tied up in, and it makes it more interesting to read about it. I found the book interesting as it really showed me more about the team then seen just through the TV during games. It showed us behind the scenes of what goes on before the
Roger staubach a 10th-round draft choice. That's the first thing. It speaks to the reality laughable in retrospect, fair at the time -- that future Hall of Famer Roger Staubach was considered a genuine risk for any NFL front office. Staubach was a roll of the dice. And no, there were no positional concerns.
This is the title that I would have given this book. The book Million Dollar Throw by Mike Lupica is an adventure/suspense book. This book is set in modern time in a town called Valley, Massachusetts. It is around the time of summer.
Emily Hontiveros Ms. Albuquerque English I - Honors 13 October 2014 The Chocolate War: Chapters 11-20 Response Journals Something I dislike in the novel is the amount of sport terminology used. I find it confusing to refer to football “language” throughout scenes where significant events occur. “He had expected Carter to blitz and instead the big guard had pulled back and skirted the line, annihilating Jerry from behind (page 76).
The player strides onto the field. Left foot, right foot, and another pounding left foot. It is up to the player to make the finishing play in the ultimate showdown between the two teams. The player can feel the immense pressure building up as the crowd keeps shrieking and rooting for him as he tries to carry the team to an unlikely win as the clock keeps ticking. It is either win now or go home a loser because it is the terminating championship game.

Both quarterbacks grew up around sports. Tom and Joe were very passionate about playing in the national football league. They were not super stars when it came to high school or college football, they didn’t even start to play for their team until they were juniors in college. Once they were drafted they were backups until their second year on the team. They both played the same position as quarterback and they have multiple super bowl wins.
The NFL ended up handing Tom Brady a “four-game suspension” to begin 2016 NFL season (Truong). The public responded in a positive way because they knew that Tom Brady had basically stolen a championship victory. The public was also a little upset because it took a whole year for everything to be sorted out. Brady ended up learning that cheating was not the answer. In the Super Bowl two years after the incident, the Patriots found themselves down “28-3 in the third quarter” to the Falcons but came back and won “34-28 in overtime” (Maske).
People got carried away with this. People started accusing the patriots of cheating on everything including the tuck rule. The patriots then went on a drought for 3 years. The next Super bowl they would go to would be in the 2007-2008 season when the patriots went a perfect 16-0 in the regular season but sadly lost to the giants of a miracle catch. In the 2008-2009 preseason tom Brady suffered a horrible injury to his back and he was out the entire season.
Discovery Famous football coach, Tony Dungy, is consistently a man of honor and strength throughout his book “Quiet Strength”. His book is a memoir of his life which captures his discovery of what it means to be a Godly leader and how to live it out both on and off the field. With his son 's tragic suicide, and media fiascos with players, Tony discovers that listening to God and who he has put in our lives will give him peace and wisdom. Tonys upbringing set him up for a lifetime of possibilities which allowed him to go farther than most. I connected most with how Tony handled his son’s suicide, he handled it in a manner I wish i could and would have.

In one of The New York Times’ most recent articles “For Giants, 2 Wins and 2 Pink Slips” Bill Pennington supports the recent dismissal of two highly paid personnel of the New York Giants organization. Pennington justifies the organization's decision by explaining that the two men fired, head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese, were both inexperienced and did a very poor job recruiting as well as communicating within their organization. He also notes specifics such as the Giants’ historically terrible record, minimal amount playoff berths, and the recent benching of their star quarterback Eli Manning as proof of the two’s work being unpleasing. In addition, Pennington quotes specifically from Giants’ team president, John Mara, throughout the article which gives insight on how the Giants’ ownership made the final decision.
Brady is one of the most charitable players in the league. Hosting many events, and donating to various charities, Tom Brady has a huge heart, along with a huge will-power. Which brings me to his next admirable quality. Tom Brady has great perseverance, and will to achieve. Overcoming many adversities, he is used to never quitting until he wins.
