Fresh common carp (Cyprinus carpio) was immediately washed with chilled water (4ºC), removed the scale, skin, headed, gutted ,eviscerated as described by (Okanović et al., (2013)) with stainless steel knife, washed again (cold water) and drained for 20 min on a sanitized stainless steel throughout refrigerated storage and then filleted. The fillets were minced with a kitchen meat mincer using a grid with 3 mm diameter holes plate. A portion of the minced fish was used in the chemical analysis and the microbial examination of the raw material (common carp fish). The remaining quantity was kept to process fish finger. 2.2.2 Pilot study of common carp fish fingers Sensory quality attributes included color, odor, texture and overall …show more content…
A sample of fish oil (50 mg) was transferred into screw-cap vial. 2 ml benzene and 10 ml sulfuric acid (1%) in absolute methanol were added. The vial was covered under a stream of nitrogen before heating in an oven 90 °C for 90 minutes. Ten ml of distilled water were added to the cooled vial and the methyl esters in each vial were extracted with 5 ml of petroleum ether for three times. The three petroleum ether extracts were combined and concentrate to its minimum volume by using a stream of nitrogen. Analysis of fatty acids methyl ester (FAMEs) was carried out by Gas Chromatography using( Hewlett Packard, Palo Alto, CA, USA) (HP 6890) and(FID) detector was used at 250 °C . The fatty acid methyl siloxane capillary column HP – 5 (30m x 0.32 mm I.D. × 0.25 μm film thickness) was used. Nitrogen was used as the carrier gas (0.8 m / min gas flow). The injection temperature was 220 °C splitless mode. The temperature program was 200°C for zero hold min (10°C/ min) until 250°C (5°C/min) and held at this temperature for 9 minute total run time was 9 min. A standard mixture of methyl esters was analyzed under identical condition prior to running the samples. The retention times of the unknown samples of methyl esters were compared with those of …show more content…
An Aluminum 40 mm diameter cylindrical probe was used in a "Texture Profile Analysis" (TPA) double compression test to penetrate to 50% depth, at 1mm/s speed test. Fish fingers were subjected to two cycle compression at 50% compression (Bourne 2002, Cheret et al., 2005 and Jafarpour and Gorczyca, 2008), all experiments were conducted at room temperature (25 ± 1 ◦C). The profile analysis was considered hardness (firmness) (N), gumminess (N), chewiness (N), cohesiveness, springiness and resilience were calculated from the TPA
They are known to feed on algae and plankton. With that being said, the average size of an Asian Carp is around 40 pounds and they can eat up to 40% of their body weight each day. Being such an invasive and rapidly-producing organism allows for carp to be considered a dominant and nuisance species overall. Moreover, one of the main causes of the rising population of carp is that they do not have any distinctly known predators, which means carp do not have to compete with any sort of competition. As a result, the effect on a species with no predators
The oldest living goldfish was fourty-three years old (Foster and Smith). The goldfish is the best pet because it is low maintenance and quiet and calming. Goldfish are generally easy pets to care for. The first easy thing about goldfish is their “housing.” All these fish need is an aquarium that is molded to their needs (Mercola).
For many it’s a first pet, a gift from family, something you won as a prize at a carnival, but for Canadian residents the familiar orange goldfish everyone knows and loves is becoming a serious problem. Some flush them in a hurry because they no longer want to take care of them, others commit them to a porcelain vortex because they believe their beloved fish has passed, and the Canadian Government is issuing a warning now to citizens of Canada to stop flushing their fish. Just a few goldfish with the potential to disrupt an entire ecosystem Goldfish are entering the ecosystem the way that a lot of invasive species end up in an environment they don’t belong, Humans are putting them there. Human interference is one of the leading causes of the beginning of over population of invading alien species. In this case many of the fish are going down drains, and ending up in Canada’s lakes and rivers.
Imagine surviving a fatal experience only to be punished and blamed for a death you could do nothing about. Now, imagine losing a girlfriend and almost losing a sister and having to live with the grief with no one to share your pain. These are the two situations Sage and Maddy find themselves in after Isabel’s death (Sage’s girlfriend) in “The Isabel Fish” by Julie Orringer. Isabel died in a car crash with Maddy in the passenger seat, and she has felt blamed by everyone, including her brother and Isabel’s friends. Because of Isabel’s death, Maddy 's relationship with her brother became a series of punishments, however, after Sage feels guilty for killing Maddy 's fish, they finally opened up to each other and their relationship strengthens.
The Native Americans of the North West Coast region adapted to their environment with the uses of fish, trees, and animal hides. The Native Americans of the North West Coast used fish as their main food resource. They made their house close to beaches and bays because it was faster to capture the fish. Fish was used more than any other food source Because it’s easier than any other food.
In this experiment we tested to see if the catfish contained lead by using a lead testing kit. We used the data collected by ORNL in 2011 that is now accessible to the public. We pose that, if the age of the lake is older than the amount of lead will increase in the catfish when the amount of lead in the fish is a function of how old the lake is. Assuming the age of the lake would affect the amount of lead in the fish. The lakes that we picked were Tellico Lake, Melton Hill Lake, Watts Bar Lake, and Fort Loudon Lake.
Every fisherman out there would like more tips for bass fishing . Catching a huge bass can be one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have. But Bass can be a bit finicky and difficult to catch at times. And using the wrong techniques will only ensure an empty stringer. The following quick tips for bass fishing should help you put more fish in the boat and give you the confidence you need to get out there and fish.
People don 't understand that this doesn 't just affect whales, it also effect people to because the belugas play a very important role in our ecosystem. If we don 't stop killing or hurting them right now later down the road we will pay for it. Later on in life if you start to see overwhelming amount of bad fish for an ecosystem and they are destroying it because there are no predators to keep the fish population down. Beluga whale help keep the ocean 's ecosystem healthy by eating fish and reducing the amount of fish that are bad for an environment. Belugas also are good for the deep sea because when anything dies and falls to the abyss from the topside they go through different layers of the ocean.
Daelyn Sagert January 30, 2018 Comp. 2 4th hour Compare and Contrast Essay Freshwater Fishing vs. Sea Fishing Saltwater fishing and freshwater fishing both have their own unique, and sometimes annoying qualities. Neither of them are really better than the other one that can be proven as such. Everyone has their own opinion over the “which is better” topic, and to just bluntly answer that question come, neither of them are better than the other (K, Jay n.p.). The biggest dependency of which one you like more is where you live.
Endangered Native Atlantic Salmon: Salmon Presentation Project (Not a Final Draft) Salmo salar, most commonly known as Atlantic Salmon, was once native to almost every freshwater river connected to the Hudson River. Due to what people have treated salmon during their history, many species have been endangered and even extinct, this includes the Native Atlantic Salmon. When people first came to Maine, Atlantic Salmon was the main source of food to eat. The population was still very steady then, but it wasn 't until the early 1800’s that populations decreased.
An invasive species is defined as a species that isn’t native to a country and has negative effects on our economy, environment, or health. The species I am researching is the Asian carp. Its scientific name is Cyprinous Capario. The Asian carp live in many different areas around the United States, such as the Great Lakes area and the Mississippi River. Lake Michigan is home to very diverse populations and species.
1. Provide a brief (no more than a paragraph) summary of the essay. 2. What are the student’s first observations of the fish?
Crayfish Response In this experiment the researchers were investigating the limited range of the crayfish species Orconectes saxatilis in the upper part of the Kiamichi River. The dispersal of the crayfish species O. saxatilis and two sympatric crayfish species throughout the upper part of the Kiamichi River were examined. The type of habitat that the crayfish favor for use was also examined along with their historical characteristics. Crayfish species with small habitats are in major need of conservation but little information is known about species-specific habitats.
The purpose of this lab was to test the mechanical properties of various nut and sea-shell structures, and their materials. For compression, we determined the ultimate strength, toughness, elasticity, and Young’ modulus for the almond, brazil nut, pecan, walnut, and hazelnut shells using a material testing apparatus. Properties were recorded in both intact and fragmented forms. This procedure allows us to see if the intact shell properties directly reflect the ultimate strength, toughness, elasticity, and Young’ modulus of the materials that make up the shell or if the structure shell itself plays a bigger role. Methods Before compressed, we recorded length, width, and thickness for each type of nut to find the cross-sectional area.
Forks are to the left of the plate, and knives and spoons go to the right (withthe exception of the tiny cocktail fork, which is placed on the soup spoon orto the right of the soup spoon). The dessert fork and spoon are above thedinner plate. If a salad is the first course (as is often the case in the United States butrarely the case in other countries), the salad fork, which is smaller than thedinner fork, will be farthest to the left. If fish is being served as the firstcourse, a fish fork comes first.
