1. Describe your career path to your current position. Include information about education and experiences. After ET graduated with her BSN, she was undoubtedly interested in informatics, but that wasn’t where her career started in the beginning. ET accepted a position on a urology/nephrology/transplant unit as a staff nurse directly after graduation and eventually became a charge nurse. ET then became a super user for her facility’s current EMR system and this opened the door of opportunity for ET to work in

Discuss the value of best evidence as a driving force in delivery of nursing care at your facility. Throughout the healthcare system, evidence based practice establishes a foundation where changes are made to improve practice. Leaders in practice are stationed at both the facility and system levels to guarantee the implementation of evidence based practice. ET’s facility’s EMR also contains third party evidence based content that provides care plan, flowsheet, and patient education content. To guarantee that ongoing evidence is imbedded within the EMR through regular upgrades, using a third party makes this possible. No matter what the technology, evidence based practice must be present to establish positive patient …show more content…
I learned how nursing informatics is applied in nursing practice, nursing administration, nursing education and nursing research. How nursing informatics benefits consumers, healthcare professionals and organizations. I familiarized myself with the educational opportunities for nursing informatics including the graduate, doctoral and certificate programs. I was also informed of the future direction of the nursing informatics role in the improvement of healthcare
I chose to interview someone that I have looked up to and has been an inspiring role model for deciding to pursue a career in nursing. I have known Phyllis Czarnecki, for six years now, however, I was never familiar with the details of her career as a registered nurse. This interview gave me more respect for Mrs. Czarnecki by giving me a better understanding of the path she has taken to be where she is now. I have always known the general idea of a nurse's responsibilities, however, this interview allowed me to learn the personal opinions and a specific job of a registered nurse. Phyllis realized, as a teenager, she wanted to become a nurse when her mom was hospitalized and undergoing surgery.
Obtaining certification in a specialty area is one way a nurse confirms she has achieved the necessary knowledge and skill within that practice area to be considered above average (Rauen, Shumate, & Gendron-Trainer, 2016). In order to realize my goal of board certification as a master’s prepared informatics nurse, I must first gain the required education, expertise, and competence through classes and practice experiences. This paper will discuss how each MSN core course, each MSN specialty course, and each potential practice experience will improve upon the competencies needed to obtain board certification in informatics after obtaining my MSN from American Sentinel University. Week 9 Overcoming Factors That Impact Informatics Initiatives DB Main Post Informatics impacts the healthcare setting, through the implementation of EHRs. A nurse informaticist not only manages the implementation of technology but follows guidelines set by ANA. Growth in nursing is moving forward as technology is erupting on the scene. The purpose of this paper does nurse impact leadership change for nurses moving into nursing informatics. Can implementation of technological transformation the care of patients, and components of ANCC Magnet health care set?
During my visit to Oak Crest Village, I had the pleasure of interviewing a retired nurse. To avoid releasing too much personal information, I will refer to my interviewee as Mrs. B. Mrs. B is a 76 years old female born in 1939 right here in the state of Maryland. She started her nursing education through a diploma program at Mercy Hospital. Mrs. B stated that her nursing program was on the job training. She spent little time in the classroom and the rest was all hands on training completed during patient care.
Evidence based practice (EBP) is a process of integrating high quality evidence into practice or care provided by health professionals and decision makers in health care. This discussion will explore the meaning of the term Evidence Based Practice further and discuss its origins. EBP requires finding the best available evidence to inform practice, its greatest benefit being the best possible care for a client. Other benefits and limitations will be further discussed below. EBP demands the client be seen as an individual and their unique circumstances be considered in the application of evidence
In 1993, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing in the Philippines where I began my career as a medical-surgical nurse. Migrating into this country in 1995 was the catalyst to the nurse
I will summarize each outcome for the Nursing Informatics specialty. For the intent of this paper I will use outcome and competency interchangeably. The first outcome means the ability to gather healthcare information across the continuum of care; combine and utilize the information gathered to develop a process. Finally execution of that process to evaluate its ability to improve the quality of the healthcare environment. Healthcare managers are constantly assessing patients and collecting information.
Evidence based practice (EBP) is to demonstrate the best practice, which has been supported, with a clear rationale to back it up, while acknowledging the patient/clients best interest. In this professional outline it will be discussed why EBP is so important to start with student nurses career and continuing throughout the nursing career and the second main point will be on the impact it has on patient outcomes regardless of discipline. I believe if this mind set is instilled early in the nurses career the practice will evolve it a more proactive
I am writing to follow up on the Registered Nurse position as I have not received any correspondence on the paperwork to officially transition over from my current position as a Patient Care technician. My release date from my manager is on April 3rd as Sharon from the Nurse Recruitment and Retention office is working on getting the documents ready for new hire. I can be reached on my cell at 374-646-4924 or via my email at delarosa1020@hotmail.com.
Evidence-based nursing practice help to improve individual bedside practice because nurses work in the ward based on knowledge they obtained from previous research. It can also answer problematic clinical practice issue since it aim at solving problem, it improves nurse’s quality and reduces variations in care. Nurses are also confident in their decisions due to the fact that they know what they’re doing and can as well prove it because every patient deserves care that is based on the best scientific knowledge and ensures high quality and are cost-
In the clinical setting, the nurses’ expertise can be used to make clinical assessments and recommendations for routine care at a lower cost than a physician visit. This would increase the number of patients seen and increase the quality of the care provided. The advance practice nurse would be able to hone in on preventative measures and increase patient education. The advance practice nurse can also make recommendations about practice changes needed to facilitate better health outcomes through the use of evidence-based practice. Nursing leaders are aware of how important nursing science is to provide needed evidence to transform practice, even though, finding the time and resources to support any research activity is often challenging (Stone, 2017).
Role of Graduate Nurse in Informatics are: 1) computer generated nursing care plan for each patient. 2) reminder and prompts that appear during documentation to ensure comprehensive charting. 3) help as a communication aid to other health care professionals taking care of the same patient. For example, Electronic Health Record. The role of Advanced Practice Nurses and Registered Nurses are same in Informatics regarding accessing, protecting and documenting patients Electronic Health Record(EHR).
Nursing, and everything that it entails, cannot be easily described in just one simple word or phrase. It goes beyond the meaning of a profession and the stereotypical definition of treating the ill. Nursing is the “protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2010, p. 1). Therefore, it is a career that requires dedication, passion, critical thinking, and knowledge. It demands commitment and an understanding of its core values and concepts, as well as the nurse’s own personal philosophy and principles.
EBP developed by incorporating scientific research with clinical experience and patient preferences in order to reach they highest form of care possible with modern mediction. Today,
Giving care to a patient is not a straightforward process because a patient is made up of advanced systems. Symptoms and the severity of a disease process are dependent on a particular patient, and it may not always be uniform from patient to patient. Because of this, nurses must be able to use their knowledge appropriately to help a patient. Nurses use techniques, such as Evidence Based Practice, in order to integrate new and advanced knowledge into their patient care (Canada, 2016). By exercising evidence based practice, nurses effectively seek knowledge, take experience from past situations, and apply this intelligence to best give patient care (Canada, 2016).
