COMMUNITY SERVICE ESSAY
Camp Casey was something I have been wanting to do since I went as a little tyke. This year I was able to make it through the rounds of interviews rather confidently. I have worked with Kids in the past and was very excited to start as a counselor. I have a never ending love for children and the optimism and positive light they bring to any situation. I chose this activity because of the passion I feel towards education and children, As a counselor my job started very early Wednesday morning where I boarded the bus with the kids from Glacier park elementary school. Right away I was eager to start talking with the kids and trying to get them involved with the different songs we sang on the bus. They were easy to talk to and very bright about the whole experience. Having my girls act so kind allowed me to recreate the entire experience for myself, to replace painful memories with joyful ones. I spent the three days guiding my girls around the camp, we had different classes to attend each day. It was my job to make sure we showed up everywhere not only on time but ten minutes early. The entire time I wore my biggest smile and sang my very loudest. I was honestly blessed with well behaved, kind girls, they all got along and helped one another. It was fun more than anything to goof

Back when I was in fifth grade I was extremely excited to go away to camp, however the counselor I was assigned to could care less about me. The entire experience was a huge disappointment, the counselor let me get bullied by the other girls in our group. It was my goal to make this an incredible experience for the girls. Through the three days I reminded each one how beautiful strong and smart they are, it was my hopes to boost their confidence. I went over the top with singing and laughing and carrying the girls around. I wanted them to remember me, and remember the fun they
Before leaving we got prizes for the kids, they got stickers and the lady working gave them giant lollipops for free. We got in the car, and the kids fell asleep as I drove us home. All in all it was a good
Camp-X, a WWII spy training facility located in Whitby, Ontario, was a key part of the allied forces efforts in the war. “In fact, it was a finely tuned machine turning highly qualified recruits into fully trained secret service agents of all ethnic backgrounds, readied and made available to the SOE (Special Operations Executive) on a moment’s notice.” Although it was a highly secretive undertaking during and after WWII information finally started to be made available over the last 20 years. This essay will outline the role Camp-X played in the war, how spies for many allied countries were trained, and why it was an important location for British and American forces. Camp-X was a paramilitary training installation run by Sir William Stephenson
How would you feel if you were mistreated and tortured? Detainees in Camp Delta face these in their everyday life. Camp Delta is located at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. America set the camps up in 2002 to hold foreign terror suspects captured during the war against the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. Detainees were first kept in an improvised facility called Camp X-Ray which was replaced by a more permanent structure, Camp Delta, in 2003.
She explained that she was on her way to the bank to get a loan for her son 's communication device when she got a call from the HIKE foundation. It was extremely rewarding to be able to help someone in that way. Besides my love of community service, I have gained so much confidence in myself from my friends that I have met through Job 's Daughters. Ther are many opportunities to compete in public speaking, talent and pageant competitions. The first big competition I entered was the Junior Miss Oklahoma pageant when I was fifteen.
Similar to LeVerne Payne, I served at an after school program for at-risk children and youth called The Master’s Workshop. I spent my time leading them in group activities, crafts, sports, music and a designated homework time. One of the greatest limitations I found myself facing in this role was a division in the power of authority. I volunteered here all throughout high school and some of the kids were very close in age to me. I found myself not always being respected for this reason.
Concentration Camps Ben and his family lived in a wonderful, well built home in 1943. The war had just began and there were many people who were getting taken in the concentration camps. Ben and his family did not think they were going to take them, they did not think they would actually do it to them. Well, they were wrong, the Natzis came and took Ben Camm and his family to the concentration camps. On the way there they did not know what to think.
When I was just a brownie, Girl Scouts was mostly about getting the prettiest patches for my sash and selling the most boxes of cookies, but over the years it has evolved into a much more meaningful activity. At the end of middle school and the start of high school, we did events such as preparing and serving meals at the Branford soup kitchen and organizing crafts for visits to the Ronald McDonald house in New Haven. Both of these events have greatly broadened my understanding of service to the community. While doing fundraisers or various drives are of unparalleled importance, literally interacting with the people my service is aimed to help allowed me to understand how donating a small fraction of time can be a way to try and better someone else’s day. Our troop has also been involved in other projects like fundraising for the local foundation Hope For Raptors, a group dedicated to protecting native birds and educating the community about them.
It is a way to create positive change and make a difference in the lives of others. I take great pride in serving my community and have found several ways to do so through my involvement in dance classes, babysitting, and serving as a Junior Counselor at camp. As an assistant in dance classes, I help to bring the joy of dance to children in my community, while also providing a positive and welcoming space for them to learn and grow. Through babysitting, I have had the opportunity to support families in my town, providing them with a reliable and trustworthy caregiver for their children. My role as a Junior Counselor at camp has allowed me to give back to my community by providing a safe and fun environment for children to learn new skills, make new friends, and create lifelong memories.
I also helped run our school carnival and class booths. My suggestions that were used were the bottle flipping race and treasure hunt. As part of my responsibilities as class representative, I was responsible for getting supplies, setting up and taking down the game, and running the game when students came to play. I am a very good student, I have always earned 4’s and 5’s in every class, social skills, and work habits. I was also involved in a program called women in history at my school.
I don’t really enjoy picking fights, or committing any acts of violence. Truthfully, if I got into any type of conflict, my lanky body would probably give up on me halfway. That’s what my wife told me after I said I was going to be joining the US armed forces. “Mark, are you an idiot? You can’t even walk without limping, how will you serve our country?!”
My Government essay I choose is the Juvenile Probation Officer for the State Of Illinois. The idea of working with juvenile offenders sparks my curiosity and enlightens me. I will be helping our youth rehabilitate and guide them into the correct direction. I will work to keep them away from violations of the town and teach them how to contribute positively in society. Juveniles should have a good mentor and very close supervision.
I had to put the needs of campers before my personal needs every day. Along with the lead staff I had to oversee the camper’s daily routine of cabin cleanliness, personal hygiene and sleep preparedness. I also assisted with helping each camper develop a sense of independence, improve their ability to work together and, work on helping them understand responsibility. Most importantly I helped the children create unbreakable bonds with each other and create lifelong friendships. In addition I had to attend trainings, familiarize myself with all camp policies and provide to all recommendations described.
Volunteering at McKenna Farms Therapy Services I was able to observe pediatric occupational therapy sessions. Not only did I get to observe Occupational Therapy sessions, but I observed Hippotherapy sessions too. What I found so unique about McKenna Farms is that they had Speech Therapist, Physical Therapist, and Occupational Therapist all together at one clinic. This allowed me to witness how the different types of therapy fit together and how the therapist would collaborate to find the best way to treat the children. My favorite part was finding ways to communicate with the kids.
“You have been chosen because we trust your abilities to change lives, history and the world. This institution prides itself on molding the future generation to be the best it can be for fifty years straight, and to work here is a prestigious honor only given to those who have earned it. Congratulations to you fine young adults for being handpicked out of the hundreds of applicants from across the country to be apart of this summer’s program.” “We are talking about summer camp here, right?” One of the camp counselors asked Mrs. Johnston, the camp director of Camp Matlyn, the longest running and cleanest summer camps in Lakeview County.
