The thesis of the book focuses on Trump’s increasing views in the political spectrum to his unlikely Presidential victory. The analytical perspective on Trump’s authoritarian aspects of leadership are often used to explain his mental and psychological capacity. It is interesting hearing several different people with different views over the political spectrum questioning Trump’s ability to lead the country. His mental health is often associated with a personality disorder as people question the content of his character (Kivisto 1). From growing up with four other siblings to following in the family business footsteps to gaining millions (Kivisto 12). Trump has had the advantages of using is white privilege to gaining his successes along with the help from his wealthy father. Trump has never had to know the struggles growing up with nothing and the burdens it can carry. His inability to empathize with the working class is one of the many problems Trump has. During Trump’s political fame, many journalist and psychologist analyze the content of his character. From the Washington Post, Eugene Robinson discusses whether Trump is just plain crazy, but goes into explaining his reasons why with examples. There has been countless times where Trump “lies the way others breathe, is alarmingly thin skinned, and is the worse kind of bully” (Kivisto 13). He can easy be seen as some of the ugliest parts of society; however, it would be “irresponsible to ignore Trump’s grasps on reality as it is often questionable” (Kivisto 13). The neoconservative Kagan called him “a man with a disordered personality with unnamed psychological pathologies that are self destructive” (Kivisto 14). Along with David Brooks who describes him as a narcissistic alexithymia and also discusses Trump’s relationship with women (Kivisto 15). The peaceful relationship we have had with other countries will now be challenged again once more. Trump inability to respect women, minories, religions, will only harass the other leaders of the different countries and If any tries to double cross him then the fear of breaking out into world war 3 is always the case with Trump. Trump’s authoritarian views of leadership will affect everything he does diplomatically and how he will manage the country. His authoritarian and fascist side of Trump to the political spectrum helped shaped his thoughts on what goals and admiration to have as a leader. Trump developing a right wing populist view, does not help the situation. Trump’s conservative populist view to help out the ordinary people is a full blown lie. His definition of ordinary people is the white man because time and time again Trump’s racist and sexist remarks follow him everywhere. According to the washington post, only 31% of the population is white male (Henderson). Trump is only looking out for a third of the population. It is nice to know that a president can selective choose what people he wants to lead. It all makes sense as “the american population is uncomfortable sense that serious damage has been done to the body politic and to the well-being of civil society” (Kivisto 6).
