Dwight D. Eisenhower was one of the most extraordinary minds in the Allied Forces throughout World War II. He was the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in the events leading up to and during the D-Day invasion, and he designed Operation Overlord. Eisenhower’s strategies caused minimal casualties and got perfect results. He worked his way from the bottom all the way to the top of the ranks in the American Army, impressing everyone along the way. He couldn’t afford a college education, and the West Point Military Academy was free. In the academy he was an average student, and after graduating in 1915, the only direction he was fit to take was in the military. Two years later in 1917, Eisenhower was promoted to captain when The United States entered into WWI, but he was never deployed abroad throughout the war. Instead, because of his outstanding organizational skills, he was sent to Camp Colt, Gettysburg, where he trained one of America’s first tank units. Eisenhower was then sent to the Panama Canal Zone, where he served under Brigadier General Fox Connor. He learned a lot from General Connor about military history and how to learn from previous military campaigns. Afterwards, he graduated first in his class from both the Command and General Staff School and the Army War College. After being promoted to major, in 1935, Eisenhower was sent to the Philippines alongside General Douglas MacArthur, whom he attended West Point with. They were to help strengthen the military defenses in the Philippines for fear of Japanese attack. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1941. Eisenhower was quick to impress General George Marshall with his management skills, who then put him in charge of all Allied Forces in Europe and promoted him to Lieutenant General. General Eisenhower succeeded in pushing German forces out of North Africa in May 1943. He then moved his troops to Italy, where he fought with General George Patton. Although the fight in Italy was difficult, they were still successful. Eisenhower was then made Supreme Commander of The Allied Expeditionary Forces, and placed in charge of planning Operation Overlord, where the invasion on the beach at Normandy in June 1944 was a huge success. Chris Kyle was a U.S. Navy Seal Sniper in the U.S. Military. He became well known for his excellent marksmanship. He even had a bounty placed on his head by foreign places. He wrote his biography "American Sniper" which later became a best-seller and also became a Hollywood movie down the road. I think he is a modern day American Hero because, out of the comfort of his home, he enlisted into the U.S. navy and fought to keep the US safe and to put his life on the line.
According to a book published by Princeton University Press On War And Leadership “In World War II, George Patton was the general deemed most dangerous by the German High Command”(On War and Leadership). Patton was such a headstrong and a formidable military commander that even the German High Command feared him. In 1942 the Allies started winning great battles that lead to a turning point in the war starting in Africa. Under Dwight D. Eisenhower and George Patton Allied forces swept across North Africa until they met commander Jürgen von Arnim of the German V Panzer Army. “They were halted in February 1943 at the Kasserine Pass in Tunisia, but General George S. Patton regrouped them and master minded an impressive string of victories”(Experience History 720).
On October fourteenth of 1890, a new hero, Dwight D. Eisenhower, was born in Denison, Texas (Marc Frey, 2013). Although Eisenhower was born in Texas, he grew up a poor young boy in Abilene, Kansas. As a little boy, he dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player, but little did he know, bigger things were coming his way. After graduating high school, Eisenhower attended school at West Point, which started his love for the military (Marc Frey). At the age of 25, Eisenhower graduated from West Point.

Military Leader George S. Patton Adaptive leadership is the drive to find ways to approach complex situations. Adaptive leaders are able to create cultural norms, great plans and expectations that cause positive transformation to occur. One of the greatest United States leaders that I found to uphold these traits would be General George S. Patton, reason being he was able to create new ideas that were able to drive incredible outcomes in a crucial time. On November 11th, 1885 the hardnosed man General George S. Patton was born.
Why Eisenhower? I chose Dwight Eisenhower for multiple reasons. One of the main ones being that I had to do a report on him last year and discovered he was a very interesting person. Operation Overlord was the codename of the battle of Normandy where the Allied soldiers invaded German-controlled Europe which began with the Normandy landings also known as D-Day. This was a large scale operation involving 1200 planes, 5000 ships and 160000 troops assaulting Omaha Beach. Operation Overlord was the turning point of WWII where the Allies begun obtaining victories against Nazi Germany and resulted in the Allies retaking most of Europe from the Germans. George S. Patton was a Senior Officer in the United States Army who achieved multiple military victories before and during WWII. This caused him to be widely known both among the Allies and the Axis powers.

10 September 1941, Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, Senior British Military Commander, was prepared to present a scheme that could potentially end the war in 1941 to General Dwight D. Eisenhower (Ike), General of the Army and commander of Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces (SHAEF). Following Operation Neptune (D-Day), FM Montgomery was eager to strike the retreating Nazi’s before they had the opportunity to reorganize and secure a strong front line. FM Montgomery’s plan defied Gen Ike’s large scale plan of a broad attack on German Front lines, encircling them and pushing them back to their Capital. The plan was to “Drop 3 Airborne Divisions, plus and independent parachute brigade, anywhere from 15-60 miles behind enemy lines in Holland. The para troopers would secure Key bridges along the main highway from Eindhoven to Arnhem, over the Rhine into Germany.
