After the end of the first World War (1914-1918), Germany and its citizens were to take the blame for the war. A document known as the “Treaty of Versailles” explained the actions and reparations Germany had to take in order to pay for the war damage and casualties. A higher power known as Hitler rose to power after recognizing the harmful effects of the treaty and fueling the hope and pride of Germans. The Treaty of Versailles contributed to the beginning of WWII because Germany lost a lot of land and resources, Germany’s army was diminished to almost none, and Germany finally recognized the extent of the harsh treatment in the treaty.
With the introduction of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was forced to give up a lot of its land and territory. This was harmful

That number included active troops, reserve troops, and officers and commanders. It was a struggle for Germany because their neighboring country, France, had a total of around 4,760,000 troops, reservists and peacekeepers around, according to the political cartoon titled “Troop Levels, 1920” (Doc B). Germany was only allowed to keep 100,000 troops as peacekeepers, making sure no major crimes happen within the country, the troops were not allowed to go to war and fight other countries for power control. The political cartoon also shows Germany surrounded by other countries holding chains that all connect to France. That means that if Germany were to attempt an attack on a neighboring country, every other neighboring country would attack Germany back and neutralize them (Troop Levels, 1920, Doc B). Germans clearly felt vulnerable to all of their neighboring countries who were more powerful than themselves and needed to go to war to restore its military power, which would have sparked a need for restoration of the army by
The first thing that the Treaty demanded was for Germany to decrease it's military power. Based on Article 160 from document B, “the German Army must not comprise more than seven divisions of infantry and three divisions of cavalry… After that date the total number of [military troops]... in… Germany must not exceed one hundred thousand men, including officers…” Comparing this numbers to the other European countries, this was insignificant. Let me show you an example, according to the German
Following the First World War, the Treaty of Versailles was ratified in 1919 with the goal of bringing a lasting peace in Europe between the Allied powers and Germany. However, its unpopular and one-sided declarations, combined with the harsh reparations imposed on the defeated nations, would ultimately lead to the outbreak of World War II less than two decades later. The treaty was a harsh punishment on Germany forcing them to set limits on their military capabilities and make reparation payments. The Treaty of Versailles did not adequately address the grievances of the German people, which ultimately led to a resurgence of nationalism, militarism, and resentment of the Allies, contributing to the outbreak of World War II. France, England,
Those circumstances were caused by Germany using valuable land, having extreme restrictions against their military, being forced to pay reparations, and forcing them to admit they were totally to blame. The Treaty of Versailles took important land from Germany. This land contained important for industry and coastal land important for trade and shipping. This was done to weaken Germany's economy. The map in document A shows territory lost by Germany following WWI.
The Treaty of Versailles The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty that Great Britain, France, the United States, and Germany signed in hopes to end all war. However, the Treaty of Versailles did the opposite and caused WWII by angering Germany and making them pay war reparations. The treaty angered many germans by depriving them of their land. This is shown in Map of Germany in document A, Germany lost parts of Southern Germany, the Polish Corridor, East Prussia, and Northern parts near Denmark. This act prompted Germany to take their land back in means of war.
World War II was the largest war to be observed in all of human history. began after Germany disobeyed the restriction placed on them by the Versailles Treaty by expanding their military in order to launch an invasion on Poland. Germany's motivation for this attack on France was a document created in the aftermath of WWI by the Allied Powers in order to decide who would receive certain territories and punishments that would have to be placed on the enemies of the Allied Powers. The Germans had many of these punishments placed on them. The treaty restricted them from having more than one-hundred thousand troops at one time and only allowing them to act as peacekeepers to keep order with in Germany.
Seren Pisella 4/19/23 World War I was a life altering war that changed the way we lived and led to new periods in life. European tensions (the Assassination of Franz Ferdinand) really caused the war, and new advances in technology gave way to incredible combat and countless deaths. Most of these fights, however, didn’t really lead to anything, and just led to pointless fighting. But eventually the Allied Powers gained the upper hand, and the Central powers asked for a truce of sorts. This led the Allies to come together and try to craft something to make everyone happy.
Due to the Treaty of Versailles’ instability, many countries were negatively impacted in various ways. These countries include Germany, France, Italy, and many recently established countries in Europe. It impacted them by ruining countries’ pride, economic situation, and power. In document 1 it mentions how Germany’s armed forces could not contain any military or naval air forces, stripping away their power as a country, which makes them more vulnerable to attacks by other countries.
Title: The Effects of the Treaty of Versailles in Causing WW2 The Treaty of Versailles was for a short time the final nail in the coffin for Germany and all her allies. The Treaty of Versailles was at its most simple definition the peace of legislature that made Germany pay reparations for all the loss of life during WW2. It also put restrictions on what Germany could do from then on. The making of the treaty made very many people, including Italy and Japan, for the fact that they wanted to gain more land during the war but the main thing about the treaty is how it made the German people feel which paved the way for the dictators to come. The Treaty of Versailles was one of the main factors for the lead-up to WW2 by the loss of territory,
According to Article 160 from Document B the allies forced Germany to weaken their military to a mere 100,000 troops. An excerpt from Article 160 states "The Army shall be devoted exclusively to the maintenance of order within the territory and to the control of the frontiers…. The total effective strength of officers, including the personnel of staffs, whatever their composition, must not exceed four thousand. " This evidence supports the idea that military restrictions on Germany helped cause World War II because it weakened Germany immensely to the point where Belgium had around 6 times more military power than Germany(Belgium had around 602,000 total available
The nations surrounding Germany, including France, had much stronger and powerful militaries, leaving the German people feeling powerless. In Document B, Article 160 of the Treaty of Versaille it is stated, “The German Army must not comprise more than seven divisions of infantry and three divisions of cavalry…. After that date the total number of [military troops]…in…Germany must not exceed one hundred thousand men, including officers.... The Army shall be devoted exclusively to the maintenance of order within the territory and to the control of the frontiers….” The German military was forced to weaken itself and become devoted to peace.
The Treaty stated, “ Germany must not exceed one hundred thousand men,”, (Doc B). Not only were they telling Germany how many troops they could have they also told them what to do with their troops. The Treaty also stated, “The army shall be devoted exclusively to the maintenance of order within the territory and to the control of the frontiers,” (Doc B). While other armies could of had as big of armies as they please, Germany is left with an unfair amount. Left with an unfair amount and being told what to do could of provoked Germany to start a
The German nazi blamed Germans for WWI to make an excuse to isolate them. When the German party lost WWI the Versailles was created to limit their military
They felt vulnerable to everyone. France is right next to Germany, and refuse to let them have any military forces at the border. (Doc A) Germany is even more defenseless and they have to obey by what France tells them. Since
Max Goodman Dr. Hagler B Block 1/26/2023 The Treaty of Versailles was signed between the Allied powers of England, France, and the U.S. and the leading Central power, Germany, in 1919, officially ending World War 1. The Treaty of Versailles guaranteed that there would be a second World War because it placed the blame and cost of WW1 entirely on Germany, forcing them to pay extensive reparations, weaken its army, and give away lots of its territory. This resulted in vast economic destabilization, a weak government, and a weak military, all of which combined with the war guilt clause bred resentment for the allied powers throughout Germany. This caused Germans to become loyal to a nationalist party, led by a charismatic idealist who promised
Introduction World War I came to an end with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919. The treaty was signed to create lasting peace. The treaty was negotiated between the three allied powers of Britain, France and the United States with no participation from Germany. The treaty 's negotiations revealed a split between the three allied powers with France intending to weaken Germany in such a manner that it would make it impossible for it to renew hostilities. However, Britain and the United States objected to some of the provisions because of the fear that it would be a pretext for another war.
