Assessment: Describe some approaches to ELA assessment used in your classroom. Use specific examples. How do these align with assessment principles in chapter 5 and/or chapter 10? My introduction to assessment during this practicum took place during my first two sessions. Curentley, I believe that I have had my biggest take away during these sessions. Being in middle schools students are no longer in the same environment for the entire day, instead students change classes for different periods of the day. I also had the opportunity of experiencing different forms of teaching, by spending some time in different options in addition to my placement in humanaties. For the first half of the day I was in my assigned classroom where students were …show more content…
BAS is a form of assessment which is used to identify student reading levels, and their progression. However, BAS is not limited to being specifically used for the purpose of the student. In fact, BAS can be used to measure achievement levels in a variety of ways. Another scenario where BAS would be beneficial would be providing feedback to the teacher where a student who has newly emigrated from another country is on an academic level. Thus, being beneficial to both the student and the educator by providing information that will help determine where the student should be placed, or what gaps must be filled to help the student become successful. For example, this form of assessment can be used on a larger scale for the purpose of identifying where a school stands in comparison to other schools. Finally, in the film study option I witnessed how Assessment for Learning, or summative assessment was applied to student presentations. In this scenario summative assessment was use in performance task. The form of assessment I observed was task specific, meaning students were asked to complete a task that will test a specific skills. Often this form of assessment is accompanied by a rubric, which teachers can use as a guide for grading, and students can use a check list they can refer to while completing the
For the assessment blueprint, I will be discussing 4 different L.T. (Learning Targets) and describe what the assessment items are and how the items will be giving my students based on a story called The Lion and the Mouse. L.T #1 allows students to practice vocabulary and create their own sentences to describe the illustrations in the text. L.T. #2 is sorting and determining the order of events using their descriptions or the illustrations in the book.
I had to revise my perspective and rethink. In class I was forced to make new connections and think at a deeper level. Be prepared to debate and challenge your own personal views, some of my longstanding beliefs have changed because I had to use metacognition awareness. During class, tough to talk about subjects make a regular appearance. Come into class with an open mind.

One way to ensure that I am not inadvertently discriminating against students on the basis of their disability is to make my assessments as valid as possible. A valid assessment will measure only those skills and knowledge that I have set out to measure, i.e. those that are detailed in the learning outcomes and assessment criteria. As such, a student shouldn't be penalised for poor spelling and grammar if the criteria state that the assessment will measure understanding of the subject. Moore A

The set up of the class with handout notes and time to work on classwork and homework was a welcome change from the teacher lecturing for 90 minutes straight. This also allows us to ask questions about the content while completing the classwork and homework. I was able to ask questions without feeling judged by the rest of the class
The workshop was really interesting because I could learn more about the classes I am planning to take next semester. I learned which classes will be more difficult and some key points in order to
Everything I have been taught, learned and completed has been beneficial to me already. I felt that I was prepared not only to teach but take on the world and the education field. The lessons, reasons and assignments has prepared me mentally and physically. I will never forget anything that I have learned in this class. Taking this class, required me to do a lot of research about classroom management and study it more.

Soundation Task Song Name: Rust | Kick It Genre: Semi-electro/acoustic The soundation assessment proved to be a great chance for me to investigate different genres and areas of music creation. Not only did this piece enable me to independently choose different sounds and beats to suit my own wishes and personal preferences when it comes to music, but it opened my eyes to the world of music and electronic music creation. I personally am a fan of EDM, Dubstep and Electronic music and even though this specific program did not allow me to create the bass drop that everyone awaits when listening to such music, the program gave me a chance to find beats that suit each other and work with basslines, synths and acoustics. I have been able to create a semi-electronic piece accompanied by the constant and dominating sound of a strong bass and
I believe that the best take away aside is not the lessons themselves but being able to connect and be a leader to the Freshman I
SC1 Demonstrated understanding of initiatives in student learning including the Standards, the Principles of Learning and Teaching P-12 and Assessment and Reporting Advice and the capacity to implement curriculum programs consistent with their intent. With seven years experience teaching English, History, Economics, Geography, Media, Art and Food Technology, I am proficient with using and following the VCE, AusVELS, VCAA, International Baccalaureate and National Curriculum Guidelines to plan, write, implement and assess units for years 7-12, including SAT's and SAC's. I've used the VCAA's Assessment Guidelines and Reporting Advice Guidelines to ensure that subject auditing proceeds smoothly, and that student work fulfils all the requirements for assessments. I endeavour to keep students informed with their progress in a timely and accurate manner. I've also used the VCE Study Designs to ensure effective planning and implementation of lessons, and I develop lessons creatively, adapting them to my areas of expertise.
However, she notes that the educator must grapple with all of these concerns and have a “thorough understanding of assessment issues and the means both for understanding school and districtwide assessment practices” (p. 334). Therefore, she lays out criteria to guide assessment, including: (1) assessment should be focused on learning, (2) should be equitable, (3) should be congruent with the aims of curriculum, (4) should recognize the limitations of assessment methods, (5) should reduce competition and increase cooperation in the classroom, (6) should include participation by students, and should include consistent and meaningful reporting (Ruddell, 2008, 334-336). Additionally, Ruddell (2008) lays out assessment tools for educators to employ to evaluate their subject area reading and writing, as this can provide important data about mastery of content knowledge through an understanding of how the student comprehends and utilizes the literacy behaviors specific to the
I learned that, despite all the different view points, all the people who are feminine or those that are masculine, we're all rather similar in nature, and in this sense I learned that I'm just as strong-minded, often pig headed, in my stance. Because of this I can often miss other perspectives, or even miss a bigger picture entirely. So most of all this class demonstrated that I have more maturing to do, more in the sense that I need to see more of the world, rather than base everything off of what happens around
