1. How would receiving the scholarship be transformational in your life, and why are you deserving of a scholarship?
Receiving a scholarship would be transformational to my life because it would allow me to keep attending this school. I'm an out-of-state student, so money is a current issue for my family. While we have enough money for me to attend college next year, I need to do my part and help contribute to my educational goals. And with my brother going into college in two years, my parents want to give him the opportunity to go to the college of his choice even if it includes going out of state as well. Coming to Colorado State University was the best decision I ever made for myself, and I really want to finish my degree here. I believe

Growing up I was always quiet, and never really built the courage to talk to people. I didn't have many friends, and the friends I did have I had trouble opening up to. I was always afraid of being myself in fear that people might judge me rather than accept me for who I was. After graduating from high school, I knew that I wanted to make a change and be a different person when I got to college. I wanted to be more confident and just be myself, not caring so much about what other people thought of me. About a couple weeks prior to the start of the school year, I received an email about the COB Mentoring Program. It was at that moment I knew this would be my opportunity to set out on a journey to achieving my personal goals. Not only did I believe that the program would help me meet new people, but I knew that it could help me be more of that confident, charismatic person I wanted to become. Because of the COB Mentoring Program I've met so many amazing people that I know I'll stay in touch with even after my college years. I've met my closest friend through the program who is now my roommate. I've had the opportunity to get to know Kayley, my mentor, as a person and build a strong relationship with her through our weekly dinner dates, grocery runs, and football games. I remember the first conversation we ever had together, Kayley told me that she would be …show more content…
Through the program I've learned many valuable tips and tricks that can be used in the business world such as how to interact in group settings, how to be self aware of even the smallest issues impacting our society, how to take a problem and run with it, and how to build a thick skin. All of these things can be very beneficial to me especially when I enter the business world. A lot of what I've been taught in class is that business is a great industry to go into, but they never talk about what the harsh reality of being in business is like. I've learned through the program that having professionalism, confidence, making ethical choices, taking challenges head on, and being able to adapt to change are the keys to success in the business industry. It has helped me prepare for what lies ahead after college, and has also helped me realize how I could potentially change the way business is looked at. Issues like unequal opportunities for women to obtain higher positions in the work force, the negative externalities of a corporation that directly impact our communities, and unequal pay for minority groups can all be resolved, but it starts with us. I personally want to help make that change, and be a role model for future generations who are interested in business. That way we
This course hasn’t influenced my career plans, but it has enhanced how I manage my projects and interact with colleagues on a daily basis. Furthermore, this class and all of my future classes will really be useful as I retire and become a self-employed government contractor. Reading about companies like Lincoln Electric, and how well they manage their employees and business inspires me to incorporate many of those techniques into my own company vision and mission. I’m using more critical thinking in my day-to-day activities and decision making. Critical thinking forces me to slow down and make better decisions.
When I was little I always tried to keep to myself; I never really wanted to be more than be an average student. I would go to school and would go home every day and never tried to do more. I never was a leader at that age; I was known to be kind and caring but I rarely took charged of a situation and always stayed in the background. It wasn’t until around 8th grade that things started to change, I began to realize that
Remembering how long and uncertain our journey has been, from leaving our hometown and family sixteen years ago, to obtaining green cards, to years spent saving enough money to afford citizenship, I realize all that my parents have sacrificed to create a promising life for me. Thus, I have decided to never let past obstacles prevent me from creating a successful future. Reflecting on the reasons as to why my family moved half way across the world—the high crime rate, insufficient job openings, and no real opportunities for improvement, allows me to realize that attending a college in the United States is the key to making those dreams a reality—dreams of safety, opportunity, and success. Being a first-generation college student means that I have the opportunity to make my parents proud, honor their sacrifices, and give back to the country that has given me a new identity and allowed me the opportunity to improve my
Growing up, times were hard. I moved around a couple times, and never built the foundation of a childhood. In school, kids made fun of me for how I looked and acted. I wasn’t getting good enough grades. But I still made it out and transferred into high school.
After reviewing the course catalog and seeing the types of classes offered, I believe this program will prepare me to reach my goals. I also have a lot to offer the program including coming from a diverse background, my personal experience, and my work
This is specifically through my experiences with my mentor, Dr. Winyoo Chowanadisai. Throughout the spring semester, we would speak about my academic and career goals, and my mentor provided great insight to my plans. As a researcher who has many siblings in the medical field, he was able to discuss the pre-med experience with me and provide clarity on how I could explore my career options and prepare for potential applications to graduate or medical school. Navigating my options for after graduation has been stressful for me this year, so a rewarding part of this experience was having a mentor to provide guidance and allow me to explore my options. Aside from the personal opinions that my mentor could provide, my experience in the lab also contributed to my thoughts on how I want to spend my
This program has given me the skills I need to adapt to new problems that I would not have anticipated the day before and to have a strong work ethic. Through this group project and the numerous assignments I've had throughout college, I've improved my time-management abilities and learned how to set priorities more effectively. Not only from the coursework but also from the connections to Christ made in
I have learned great time management skills, I learned different ways of studying material to be able to understand it, I have learned to never give up and the work you put into something results in the outcome. I have gained many experiences by attending different colleges and learning from different instructors in different formats. I have gained experiences personally from life events that have given me the drive and motivation I have today. I have completed my BSN program all online so I have great experience with online programs.
How would a scholarship help you attend UW-Stevens Point? My parents are requiring that I pay 50% of my college education. They believe this will give me more ownership in my college education but also an appreciation for the financial commitment earning a degree is going to take. I currently am working a part-time job and I am saving as much money as I can and I plan on applying for financial aid.
National Junior Honor Society Essay Being a member of National Junior Honor Society interests me in a number of ways. I believe I excel in all five criteria of NJHS: academics, leadership, service, citizenship, and character, and being a part of this national organization will help me improve much more in each of the categories. I am also interested knowing that having membership in NJHS will help my future career and bring a lasting impression to many people. Scholarship is important in people’s lives; it both helps their futures and encourages them to do more work academic related. I have succeeded in many tasks academically.
A personal experience i had, is as a child in middle school i was put under so much pressure to be the same as my peers. Even though I wasn’t the same, or didn’t fit into their category. Yet I tried hard to be and always worried about what people would say. Later in High school i developed a Panic Attack disorder from the stress of middle school. I was forced to try and be someone i wasn’t that I didn’t know who i wanted to be, or who i really
My childhood was lost because of this, but since coming out a new world has opened. When I started my freshman year of high school I was quiet, extremely introverted, depressed, and always anxious. I didn’t how to make friends, I had no friends, and I was at a new school. My world was turned upside down, but for the first time in my life, I could be who I wanted to be, which was myself. I didn’t want to trapped inside myself anymore and didn’t want to be afraid of what the world could do to me.
My mentor is an incredibly talented, well-read, highly accomplished woman, whom I look up to in amazement every day. When I receive my IRB proposal back, I was always
The members played a big part in this personal growth of mine, as well. I was shocked when random community members would come up to me to congratulate me on a win or ask how the teams are looking. It was important for me to be assured that they care about the things I was doing. These small conversations felt like an invitation for me to start and hold meaningful conversations with adults. Some of the greatest lessons that I have taken from high school are lessons that have nothing to do with the curriculum.
The business should showcase the successful women in the business and grant them promotions if they are deserving. The business should also demonstrate their gender equality efforts on their website or in the newspaper to stand as a role model for all businesses. (Chron,
