Odysseus is a man of fine qualities and attributes, but he's also a man of flaws and imperfections. He is a hero and thats proven by the fact that he showed great amounts of intelligence and bravery when the ships were going awry and Odysseus was for only one to survive. But through all that he is also a fool, Odysseus makes a mistake telling the Cyclops his name after blinding him, which later gets him into trouble with the Cyclops father; Poseidon. Many events got Odysseus into trouble, but he somehow always found a loophole out of it.
The events that show how Odysseus is an epic hero really brings out his characteristics, for example; at the beginning of part I, the Trojan war had just ended and Odysseus is on his way home but the wind and the ocean carried him to a remote island Cicones. All the men were greedy and so the island fought back. Lots of the crew died but thanks to Odysseus and his ability to think fast, some were able to survive. But mainly, he had love affairs in order to stay alive and save his family and city so that showed that he has been willing to do anything to return home. He is stubborn when he does not learn from the foolish mistakes that he's made in the past and because of this, many men in his crew were killed. The event when he was on an unknown island after just having a bad experience with a Cyclops showed he did not care. He's also very disrespectful and this trait is what caused his journey to be longer. When Odysseus cursed the gods just after the Trojan War and refused all sacrifices to Poseidon. His last flaw would be that we are unfaithful to his wife and son since he got involved with Circe and got distracted from his goal of returning home and so his journey got even more extended until his crew reminded him of their goal only then he snapped back into thinking on a way to making it
