I was a victim of the Freshman 15. My freshman year of college, I gained nearly 20 pounds. I remember my parents mentioned that they could tell I gained wait from when they dropped me off for school and picked me up for Fall Break – that is only a 2 month gap! I gained so much weight that I became a snorer. It was really unfortunate for my roommate because she was such a light sleeper and my snoring would wake her up in the middle of the night. There were even times when I would wake myself up from a nap from my snoring. I was amazed how easily and real the Freshman 15 was.
I was an athlete all throughout high school. I was on the volleyball, swim, track, and cross-country team. There was never a season that I was not participating in a school sport. Being on a sports team was not only fun, but also it kept me in shape. When I started college, I did not join any sport clubs. I would work out on my own or with friends in the gym. For many people the lack of physical activity is what increases the body weight. It can be very difficult to find time to workout when you are swamped with schoolwork and still want to have a social life. I really enjoy working out, so not finding time to workout was never my issue. My issue was my diet.

I used to go up for seconds, and thirds, and fourths in the buffet style dining halls. There was so much food to choose and I just wanted to try every cuisine. Then I would eat so quickly and go get more food before my food had time to settle. God knows how many calories I would eat in one
The Bethel School District had suspended the respondent, Matthew N. Fraser for the span of three school days as well as the school decided to revoke his name from a roster of potential speaking at special ceremonies such as graduation. The respondent’s parent reciprocated action by bringing their child’s infraction of his first Amendment right. This includes his freedom of speech.
I’ve heard it all about Nebraska accepting a bowl. The team doesn’t deserve it at 5-7, it’s embarrassing, and the Nebraska football program should have more pride than to show up with a record like that. Let me pitch you something. You’re the first-year head coach of a football team. You just got done with perhaps one of the most frustrating seasons you’ve ever been a part of.
College, although it is an esteemed institution acknowledged for its cultivation of young minds, is an establishment notorious for the expansion of its students’ waistlines. The infamous “Freshman Fifteen” is a nightmare turned reality for thousands of incoming college students nationwide. Hoards of fledgling undergraduates struggle to maintain a healthy physique under the stresses of their hectic academic and social schedules. Late-night snacking during cramming sessions, deficient exercise regimens, and overconsumption of high-calorie dining hall foods are additional factors that attribute to students packing on the pounds. Although freshman weight gain is commonly widespread today, it is not absolutely inevitable.
Is College Really Worth It? Paula Scarborough Brenau University EH101 Professor Whelan March 18, 2017 A thorough evaluation of the higher education evidently reveals that there are diverse factors that need to re-evaluate as suggested by Charles Murray. Although the facts are based upon a misinterpretation of what colleges entails in the essence that they are not substantially equipping graduates with the necessary life skills hacks. Instead of cultivating capable individuals in the society, college’s distinct purpose has been to equip skillful graduates into diverse careers they wish pursue.
There has been a big controversy from years ago about whether or not NCAA students athletes should be paid a salary. This issue is important because so many people believe that these college athletes are already being paid through the scholarships they receive for their studies. However, others argue that they are not been given enough for all their sacrifices and hard work while playing in the field. There are countless reasons why it is fair for students athletes in college to obtain at least a minimum payment, and some of them are because colleges are producing lots of money with students playing sports, body injuries can dramatically risk athletes’ scholarships, and finally because they deserve to receive something back from having their
Do college athletes throw their bodies away so programs can succeed and benefit? College athletes put more into the school than regular students. College athletes should be paid for playing because the sport they are participating in is essentially their job, they have no time to do any other activity because it will interfere with their schedules. Another reason I believe this is because of the profit the school makes off of the players. If you or your child was an athlete giving your all to a school and you were still struggling financially to where you can barely take care of yourself would you believe in paying them then?
I can’t connect to Walls text, but there are many differences between her and I. For instance, Walls states, “I wanted to join some club or group or organization where I could feel belonged, where people wouldn’t move away if I sat down next to them” (203). I can’t relate to this because in high school I was in three sports, volleyball, basketball, and track. She is right, being in sports or a group organization makes you feel belonged. It makes you feel like you are wanted and that you have plenty of
In Contest of Words: High School Debate and the Demise of Public Speech by Ben Lerner, the audience can see how the way in which people say words are more powerful than the words solely. In the essay, Lerner uses different anecdotes of his life to explain how words change as much as the world does. Lerner first utilizes the term “spread” in his essay when he was a high school debater and defines it as a competitor speaking hastily and attempting to “make more arguments and marshal more evidence than the other team can respond to within the allotted time” and uses it multiple times since he first introduces it (Lerner 420). To spread is to make the opposition weaker by speaking quickly. As he uses this term, he stresses the gradual avoidance of the “spread” as time carries on, and the increasing slowness of communication.
I watched my weight slowly, but surely, drop and my body matched the other athletes I played with. My height suddenly became my advantage, I was the tallest on my basketball team and was needed under the hoop to score. Plus, the bond with a team is like no other. I can easily say that joining sports was one of the best decisions of my
College is one of the most important and life changing times in the life of an American. Leaving high school behind and venturing out to the adult world is an amazing experience that every individual should experience. However, young adults from every corner of the country leave college with crippling debt or do not go to their preferred college of choice. College education should be cheaper as it will help families and students financially and give them the satisfaction with having the opportunity to go to their first choice for college.
Responsibilities change when at college and this can cause stress and weight change. A change in diet and not eating properly can cause someone to gain weight. Not to mention that sleeping habits change dramatically when you go to college. The first thing that comes to people’s minds when they hear “freshman 15” is drinking alcohol, but this isn’t the only factor in the problem. This is a problem for these future students, and there isn’t just one solution to it.

Throughout my life I have had many experiences, obstacles, and people that have somehow affected me along my journey as an athlete. Sports might seem like just a game to some, but it is in fact much more than that. The obstacles I have gone through and lessons that I have learned in sports has shaped me into who I am today. I honestly cannot say that when I was very young, that I came to any realization that sports would be such an enormous part of my life. It was more like I had always known, and I never thought to question it.
For many years, if you went to a casino or card club to play poker, the most popular game going was Seven-Card Stud. For a long time, this game and Omaha were titans of the poker world, until 2003, when a young hotshot named Chris Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker playing Texas Hold-Em. Regardless, however, there are still plenty of Stud games being played both in casinos and online, and may poker purists find that Stud is a much better game overall. If you’re either a Stud pro or just want to get into the game, we have compiled a list of the best Stud poker sites you can find online.
Albert Einstein once said, "Everybody is a genius... But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid". Unfortunately, most school systems depict this quote. They judge a significant amount of the population by their ability to answer a few questions. They rate them with letters and numbers, and force students to be represented by these letters and numbers for the rest of their lives.
