As teachers strive to ready students for the 21st Century, it seems that more and more challenges are being encountered on a daily basis for our kids to be engaged and ready for learning. Teachers have to recognize all students can and will learn in their own way, in their own time, given the right opportunity and safe environment to do so. Teachers have to identify the barriers and facilitators of both the students and school in order to best support the unique perspectives, life situations and backgrounds that each individual has, meet them where they are at, and ultimately help them become life learners.
Barone et al. (2014) implemented having a ‘progressive’ philosophy is ideal yet difficult at best to apply into the classroom. Despite

I will develop routines for increasing and strengthening the value of student teacher verbal interaction. I will tailor my interactions towards disciplinary actions with more empathy and “Love and Logic” responses. I will increase the number of extended teacher contacts and student ideas in lecture/discussion settings.
Goal Statement Two
Benjamin Franklin stated, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” Some of the ways I will empower and give students the building tools of their learning is by providing student-based projects, high level questioning, cooperative learning and problem solving applications. I will increase the opportunities to engage in student-based projects. I will tailor my center choices to provide choice boards and include many of the multiple intelligences. I will tailor my questions using the Bloom’s Taxonomy during discussions and interactions to encourage higher levels of thinking. I will integrate multiple ways of problem solving and thinking encourage students in daily discussion and journaling to communicate differences in their thinking and
As a kindergarten teacher at Otter Lake Elementary (WBLAS) and first grade teacher at S.G. Reinertsen Elementary (Moorhead Public Schools), I have learned the importance of establishing a sense of community and belonging in the classroom. By providing a stimulating learning environment that fosters confidence and encourages each child to reach their fullest potential, I aim to meet the specific needs of each student. I firmly believe that every child is entitled to an education environment that enables them to learn and grow both academically and personally. By motivating my students to have confidence in their strengths and abilities, I hope to inspire them to become dedicated, lifelong learners. With only seven hours each day to make a difference in students’ lives, I strive to effectively utilize our time together to ensure they receive a valuable
Build positive relationships with students will help establish a more comfortable classroom environment. Michie have put a great amount of effort at trying to get to know his students on a more personal level, such as through individual home visiting and personal questionnaires about each student’s likes and dislikes about school. In order for students to feel that the information is relevant to them, teachers should make connections and relate to real life examples. Michie uses his past classroom experiences to connect to his students and further sparks class discussion. Michie would try to relate to what the students were going through in their lives to get to know them better.
A child’s education is affected by various elements such as gender, race, environment, economic factors, privilege, and more. These elements shape the outcome of a student’s educational experience and learning. They also determine what and how students will learn. In order to create an appropriate learning environment, there should be a sense of community. In other words, the common goal should be helping students succeed and reach their maximum potential.
Allowing students to express their knowledge in more creative methods allows for all students to cultivate and nurture deeper critical thinking which can lead them to later success in academia and within the workplace. Critical thinking causes the individual to process and apply the knowledge in a way in which expresses their understanding. Throughout secondary and post secondary education, students are expected to express their understanding of a topic with a project that can demonstrate the knowledge they have retained. Using a more creative means of representing the ideas and concepts from the course can prove that the student is more comfortable with the concept and is familiar with the information.
For this reason, I have been actively involved in the developing and implementing creative ways to engage students. From the use of technology in instruction to the implementation of field experience exercises, all of which have positively improved student learning for a diverse group of learners. Furthermore, I constantly challenge myself to prepare exercises and assignments that help students make connections across various
If a child cannot learn the way I teach then I will teach the way the child learns. My aim is not to be a sage on the stage but a guide by the side. Involving inclusive pedagogy in my personal education will allow me to achieve my goals. I impart knowledge, I guide learning, I channel ideas, I create opportunities, I impact lives, I TEACH!
The diversity of student backgrounds, abilities and learning styles makes each person unique in the way he or she reacts to information. The intersection of diverse student backgrounds and active learning needs a comfortable, positive environment in which to take root. Dr. King continues by explaining, “Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.” From back then to today’s society, kids are failing because they lack those morals that they need to succeed.

JoAnn Kocis, “At Lincoln Elementary School we are committed to developing students who can successfully read, write, and problem solve”, this will be portrayed in this PD as well as through the implementation of it. In fact, teachers will not only discuss how to implement the strategies delivered through the PD, but they will be given the opportunity to work in collaboration through the implementation of those strategies in lesson plans to be utilized in their own classrooms. This PD will be creating better opportunities for all; teachers will be learning how to enhance learned strategies into their lesson delivery through meaningful text based classroom discussion, while students will be given the opportunity to learn from discussion, to buildup learning through someone else’s reaction while promoting oral interaction among all students. Students will feel eager to participate and proud of their input to the class discussion. In fact, this PD will reinforce a positive classroom atmosphere in which all members will be building novelty through the use of a respectful classroom
The Goal tells about the story of Alex Rogo who is the plant manager of a manufacturing factory which might get closed down. Late shipments, growing backlogs and increasing inventories are the main problems of the plant. Moreover, Alex has only 90 days to revitalize the plant; otherwise, the factory will be closed and hundred of employees will lose their job. At the same time, Alex has problems with his marriage because of his very busy business life. While he was struggling to survive the plant, he luckily encountered with his old physics professor, called Jonah.
By providing a hierarchy of levels, this taxonomy can assist teachers in designing performance tasks, making questions for discussing with learners, and providing feedback on student work. This resource is divided into different levels each with Keywords that exemplify the level and questions that focus on that same critical thinking level. Questions for Critical Thinking can be used in the classroom to develop all levels of thinking within the cognitive domain. The results will be improved attention to detail, increased comprehension and prolonged problem solving skills. One way to challenge learners in the classroom is through the use of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

The Goal Action Plan will monitor and assess the new goals of the school, which is the increase in academic scoring on the Ohio State Tests in both Mathematics and Language Arts. A set district team will monitor regularly the implementation of this plan and will modify the plan based upon the district’s progress toward achieving the goals and using identified progress measures. However, the district will also recognize the immense importance that academic subjects, other than reading and math, contribute to the success of a student. With this, it is understood that many students are supported in their development of reading and math skills through other academic subjects.
Sadker & Sadker (2017) believes that, “behind every school and every teacher is a set of related beliefs--a philosophy of education--that influences what and how students are taught. A philosophy of education represents answers to questions about the purpose of schooling, a teacher's role, and what should be taught and by what methods” (Chapter 9). I seek to adopt the progressivism approach. Progressive education rejects traditional education as it is child-centred and not subject-centred (Reedy, 2017). My Philosophy of education requires me to ask myself questions on why do I teach, what do I teach and how do I teach.
Throughout my training, I implemented various strategies for engaging students in small groups and rigorous lessons. My role as a teacher is to communicate effectively, be respectful, and have self-worth and confidence. I did fear making wrong choices throughout this field experience. I set high expectations the students to achieve high goals. Teaching to me opened doors to many students’ lives.
