The best part of a holiday is the treats and traditions young and old individuals get to participate in. Among these sweet filled holidays is Halloween, a day to please the sweet tooth, stay up late, and support America’s holiday tradition. Since the 1940’s Halloween has been a highly-celebrated event in the year, which makes it perplexing that schools don’t care to give at least no school on the day where young souls wake up from eating large amounts of candy and staying up late gathering it. The school board has stressed the importance of academic success and plead for students to have a good breakfast and get enough sleep, but they’ve forced us to go to school right after we’ve supported our country by celebrating one of the most popular holidays, Halloween. …show more content…
The school board pushes for students to begin their day with a good nutritious breakfast, however give a school day the morning after students devoured buckets of candy. After eating a healthy low sugar meal, it takes an adults blood sugar up to 4 hours to go back to its normal level. If a human age five to eighteen eats sugary foods all night and gets up early for school they will still have a sugar rush which, according to Dr. David Ludwig, professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School “causes children’s blood sugar levels to rise quickly and then fall” (Live Strong). If schools want students to have a good nutritious meal they need to stop having a school day after the holiday dedicated to high blood sugar and sugar crashes. Along with not giving enough time for the body to recuperate, schools also ask for at least nine hours of sleep but don’t let us have
Although Day of the Dead and Halloween seem similar on the surface, they are tremendously different due to their way of celebrating with foods, decorations, and preparations. The more you learn about both holidays, the more you can see their differences. Not only are they celebrated on different days, but they are celebrated in different ways by many different people. The first difference between the two holidays are food.
Houses that present a teal pumpkin show that they are safe to approach for children that suffer from food allergies or that have disabilities that make consuming candy a chore. It allows children to feel included and allows them to have a positive Halloween experience. The whole project was created to provide protection for children, teach acceptance, and to create more positive experiences for families.
What do you think of when you think of October? Black cats? Witches? Many people think of Halloween, but that is not the only holiday in this month. Two very important holidays take place in this month:
Halloween comes and goes, and “in a post-Halloween frenzy, the school board has come out against calling us the Devils. We are now the Merryweather Tigers. Roar. The ecology club is planning a rally to protest the “degrading of an endangered species.” This is the only thing talked about at school. ”
Considering that breakfast is one of most important meals of the day, this can affect a pupil mentally and they won’t. A way the school can help overcome this issue is by holding fundraising events to raise money for pupils that cannot afford school uniform, trips etc. Schools could also begin to provide free school meals for children of low income families so that their child can still have lunch at school without the added expensive cost. This means that they will be able to learn as normal and pay attention without being hungry and distracted during classes. To tackle the problem of a lack of breakfast due to costs, the school can hold breakfast clubs just before school starts in the morning, so that pupils can attend and have breakfast at
As whispers of a schedule change to a four-day school week reach the attentive ears of the students, a humming buzz of interest fills the school. Students daydream about the potential benefits that would accompany the alteration, gossiping with their peers at every possible chance in an attempt to discern all of the information. The more they consider the new four-day week, the more they wish for a change. The students would be able to sleep late for an extra day every week and spend more time with their family and friends. This is the reason why over a hundred school districts, mainly in rural communities, have made the change.
On a typical school day, students sit through 7-8 hours of nonsensical busywork before they can even leave the building. Most high schools in America have a strictly structured day planned out for their students. To begin the day, students sit in class for a few hours. Then they are exposed to some of the worst food known to man, cafeteria food. Not to mention that once they are done scarfing down the sodium-rich garbage called food, the students have to sit in class for a few more hours before their freedom is regained.
So, they can improve the odds of adolescents getting sufficient sleep so they can thrive both physically and academically. I agree with this source, starting schools later could enhance student’s school performance academically and athletically. Starting school too early are preventing many teenagers from getting the sleep they need to start off their day. I aim to using this this source to support my claim as to why students need more sleep and how it would affect them throughout the school day. This will benefit my essay by forward explaining why school should start later in the morning and why doing this will be better for the students’
For the last few years, schools across the United States have made conscious efforts to delay school start times. The push for a later school start has been led by doctors and parents who believe students do not receive the suggested eight-and-a-half hours of sleep daily. A later start time does not guarantee more sleep for students as students may just go to bed even later usual. A later start time could also change the times for after-school activities for many students. As a result of a later start time, both students and teachers will come home to families late into night.
Most teenage students despise having to get up so early and walk out the door to get to school before 8:00. If school bagan at least an hour later students would get more sleep, their academic scores would improve, and students would have time to eat a healthy breakfast. The first reason why middle schools and high schools should start later is because students need more sleep. Teens who don’t get enough sleep are walking around like zombies. Adolescents who don't get enough sleep often suffer from physical and mental problems.
Also, if school starts later you will be able to have a proper and healthy breakfast. It is important for students’ because with there growing bodies and developing brains they need regular refueling often, from food. When kids skip breakfast, they don’t get what they need to be at their best in school and at home. If you’re short on time you can just throw some fruit in a blender and make a delicious and nutritious smoothie.
There are 24 hours in a day, 8 of those hours belong to school. From the moment when a student wakes up, they begin to prepare for school then go to school, most schools start around 8:00-9:00 am, so most students get up 1-2 hours earlier to get ready. Students need at least 8-9 hours of sleep to be able to function. With students having after school activities that take up around 2 hours, students are exhausted and when they get home all the want to do is relax, but some of them have responsibilities that they have to do, which gives them less time to relax from a long day of school. On top of having homework students end up staying up late getting all their work done, which cause them to be less focus the next day not allowing the
School Start Times: Waking Up to the Truth Imagine staying up until the wee hours of the morning to finish the homework that had been accumulated during the day, only to have to get up a few hours later to catch the school bus, knowing that succeeding in class the next day would be short of a miracle. For many students, this scenario is not only feared but a reality they must face. The American Academy of Pediatrics states, “About 90% of high-school-aged adolescents get insufficient sleep on school nights…”(“Early
Stress has become a major issue for high school students. Many students have seven classes, participate in sports, have after school activities, homework, and need to get an adequate amount of sleep each night. Some parents and outside influencers don’t see the benefits of having a longer lunch period for high school students. Students complain about how long school is now but they don 't have enough time outside of school to complete everything they are expected to. While it is understandable that some parents wouldn’t want longer lunches because it could result in safety issues and students having to remain in school 30 minutes longer than the traditional time, longer lunches would give students a chance to complete homework, get help from teachers, and eat a nutritious meal.
