High school sports are not beneficial to students and just add more pressure. Many students participate in high school sports throughout their time in high school. Most of the sports can get very serious and a lot of pressure can be put on students to win games or get scholarships. Parents, coaches, and teammates can add to this pressure and can take away study time for student athletes. High school sports are not beneficial because they add too much pressure on students.

Whether it’s a game, match, or meet, the immense pressure put on students to win is not beneficial. Second, students aren’t able to focus on school work as much as they should. This detail is important because it reveals that student athletes have been more focused on sports rather than academics. Most people would confirm that academics should always come before sports. When students spend too much time playing and practicing sports, study time is taken away. The article against sports by Amanda Ripley, was written to persuade US citizens that sports should be limited or fully removed from high schools. The article in support of sports by Kai Sato was written in response to the negative article, intended to critique that author in specific.
Depending on what sport you play some student athletes play multiple sports in college. Students are sometimes able to take some classes for free which means free credits to go on your college resume. Even though the free credits are nice to have and good to take advantage of, it means more homework and time spent in the classroom (Arnett 1). There is already so much stress on college students if they are just there to do their studies, and then throwing sports and practice into their schedules makes it very difficult for students to succeed. Balancing work, school, and sports is so difficult for students to do and succeed in all 3 (Dellenger 1).

When given an opportunity to compete in college as an athlete many of these kids forget that they still have to participate in school and coming from their background as struggling students itll be even harder for them to learn in the college environment. If they struggled from elementary to high school there is a little chance that they will be able to be above average in college and without the money or help given by the school it makes it even worse.
How is high school football more dangerous than college? High school football is more dangerous, cause of the teen's still developing brains. 4 out of 1000 high school football players sustain season ending injuries, while 8 out of 1000 college players do. The reason for this is cause the college players have better equipment. Kids begin playing at a young age, sometimes at 9 or 10 years old.
While high school sports offer students a place to develop passions and an outlet for leadership and competitiveness, the high school sports system has many problems. However, one of these problems stand out the most, in my opinion. The biggest problem in high school sports is the unfair allocation of resources. Many sports, such as volleyball, face prejudices as far as resources goes. Secondary sports, such as soccer, basketball, and cheer, are often forced to share gyms and equipment, which takes away from practice time and hinders an athlete's focus.
This notion is supported by Dr. Daniel Gould, who believes that “Children who participate in sports have increased educational aspirations, closer ties to school and increased occupational aspirations in youth” (1). People against the funding of high school sports think that parents and society are placing more emphasis than ever before and, “[P]ressures athletic personnel to deviate on winning from the athlete- centered educational and personal development mission” (Gould 1). However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.
The stress can get so intense, it feels paralyzing. That’s why it is important than ever for schools to invest in their athletic programs,” states the sports article “Should Schools get rid of Sports.” Schools should keep their sports programs because they help improve academics, help improve mental and emotional health, and improves social skills like being on a team. Schools should not get rid of their sports programs because they help with student’s academics.
Athletes who play football or basketball are at a higher risk of career ending injuries. These two sports are the hardest on an athletes body. Only one out of twenty-five college athletes go pro, so why put your body at risk when you don’t receive anything for doing that and your chances of going pro are slim? The mental strain, the effect of the education of students, and the grievous injuries you can get from sports are all prime reasons that we need to reconsider how we view high school sports. Sports develop core values and teach a certain code of ethics which players may use in other aspects of life. I believe that this is extremely important, but that there are also other important things in life that may take priority over sports. While one should always try to strive to better themselves in life, sometimes this is best achieved not on the field but in the classroom. As I mentioned earlier, I will not trade a child’s education for a better chance at winning, even if it means a state championship. Education always comes
