To Hofstra’s Financial Aid Department, I would like to thank Hofstra for admitting me as part of the class of 2021. Hofstra is an exceptional school where innovation is encouraged, as evidenced by the multitude of entrepreneur competitions that provides opportunities for students to achieve their goals and visions. My personal goal and vision are to attend Hofstra university for I know that the programs at Hofstra are focused on developing students to pioneer ideas and influence the future. I myself aspire to develop programs to positively pave the path for the next generation; By developing a non-profit that allows students to easily understand their financial situation and inexpensively send their reports to colleges, students from middle and lower economic backgrounds will not be …show more content…
Other schools have offered me more money due to the combination of my scores, National Merit Semifinalist standing, and talents. Recently, I have won first place in the mathematics portion of both my county and regional science fair with a statistical analysis of racial bias in media advertisements. Unfortunately, I could not attend the state conference due to a combination of my school’s Model United Nations and church responsibilities. Returning to my financial issues, my father has recently started working for the church for free and he is no longer being paid. We are sustaining on a combination of my job and my mother’s nursing job, but in order to become more qualified, both of my parents will be returning to school for a master’s degree. That means that this year, 3 of my family members will be in school, and this will cause a huge financial stress on us. Truly, I do love Hofstra, and I would also like to join the Honors College and pursue a double-major or participate in the Economics/MBA Graduate program as
Panic hit my parents. It 's senior year, I just got accepted into UW Tacoma and they see the tuition fees. They were already in shock when they had seen my Application Fee was 70 dollars. Since we are residents of Washington my tuition fee is even higher; being about 5 thousand dollars more; the estimated tuition fees for nonresidents costs $34,791, not even counting the cost of living and supplies. The estimated costs to live on campus is $11,962 per year, which still doesn 't count the costs of food; which the estimated cost of food per year is $512 but, that is just for a meal card for their cafeteria not even counting outside expenses.

not just for my parents, but for myself as well. From failing math 1B, to worrying about if any schools would accept me, to this final stretch that can set me on the right path. Not only is Davis my dream school and my parent’s dream school, it is a great school in itself as well. In addition, Davis is within reasonable distance from my home and with my family situation, it would be a great bonus especially for my grandma. In life second chances are hard to come by and when they are given to me I promise with all my heart, soul and mind that I will cherish this opportunity and I will not take it for granted at all.
With that said, as a child of a single parent with inconsistent child support, my financial position, as well as my family structure, has been rather unstable. Two years ago, when I chose to attend Syracuse University, my father contacted me and offered to pay for my tuition. However, since the decision to become a part of Kappa Kappa Gamma was solely my own, I have paid for my dues, room and board independently by working over the summer. This has allowed me to both obtain a great education and be a part of an amazing sisterhood.
Explain any special circumstances including sources of income or hardship that you believe are not reflected in your FAFSA. (159/250) Even though I believe that my financial situation is accurately represented by the information provided in my FAFSA, paying for college is still an enormous hurtle considering students pay tens of thousands of dollars when earning their degrees. While my parents have planned ahead to be a major financial component in my education, scholarships and other sources of income will play an equally important role to pay for the long education process that lies behind earning a Ph.D. Not only have I been rigorously applying for scholarships over the course of my senior year, but I also have the option to use the skills I 've learned in high school to help finance my education by tutoring German and teaching Clarinet. Despite this, scholarships still play the most important role in financing my education because they offer me the immediate financial support needed to approach
Congratulations, you have the unwavering commitment to go back to school. That degree is on the horizon and you’re willing to devote a great deal of time to studying but your
While education can open doors to your life, having the initiative to be successful is what really counts. I am determined and I have the desire to study Business but am lacking the financial support needed to achieve my goal. The Plant City Lions Club Scholarship would help me by giving me an opportunity to pursue my dream career. My desire is to be able to study in order to work and give back to my parents who have helped me accomplish graduating from Plant City High School with honors and with a weighted GPA of 4.7321.Receiving financial support will allow me to make a difference in the challenging world of Business. My parents have always supported me in everything, but unfortunately they cannot afford my college tuition.
“I believe in you.” Okay I’ll apply. Realizing that my community college education would costs just as much as a private college tuition, I realized that going back to college was not so reachable. I thought about getting deeper into debt. No, I could not do that to my
During my high school career I was blessed to find the Future Farmers of America, also known as the FFA,. The FFA is an organization that stands over half a million members strong. The FFA has prepared me for my future significantly more than any other group or organization I have been involved in. The mission of this program is, “FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.” I believe it has done just that for me; this organization has made a profound impact on my life.
Finding motivation to attend college is easy, keeping the motivation to finish is the difficult part. I decided to enroll in college to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Business with a concentration in Finance. I hope that the degree will give me the opportunity to apply for a better position within the organization that I currently work for. A secondary goal of returning to school is to demonstrate to my son that attending college is required for many jobs and that returning to school as an adult has various difficult challenges. I have been working for the past nine years as an Assistant Financial Officer and am highly competent at my job.
Aguila Youth Leadership Institute has taught me many things over the last two years I have been part of it. I have learned many things from how to make myself look better in front of colleges to how to be confident in myself and where I come from. I came into Aguila knowing very little and since then I have learned lessons that will help me now and later in my life. To pay it forward with what I have learned in Aguila I will tell people about this and how it is not just about getting help for college like some people think it is, it is about helping yourself build a future for yourself and generations to come. Furthermore, I will pay it forward by coming back and helping those who are helping me right
Transferring to Hofstra gave me an opportunity to relive the first day of my undergraduate career, stress and all. It was overwhelming at first, but I wanted to hit the ground running and join a group, volunteer, or do anything that would make me feel more like a member of the Hofstra community. I narrowed the number of organizations, programs, and Center’s down to a short list of the ones that reflected my interests and aspirations. I reached out to advisors, chairs, and directors, including Dr. Phillippi, the director of the Center for Public Archaeology and professor of anthropology. We met to talk about the department and about archaeology in general, which is when I learned he was accepting applications for the Center’s competitive internship.
I’m interested in working at the Gates Foundation this summer because I know that I can make a huge impact by helping the college ready education team achieve the Gates Foundation’s goal of supporting innovation that can improve U.S. K-12 public schools by developing systems that will improve high school graduation rates and prepare high school graduates for college. I posses a strong passion and numerous years of work experience in the areas of college access and readiness and I would be honored to work for the Gates Foundation whom I believe is helping to lead the movement of college readiness for all U.S. students. I believe all students deserve to receive a high quality education and I know this can be achieved by focusing on teaching,
Success is always a personal definition; for some it is through the family’s prosperity, for others it is the depth of the good they do in the world, the list is endless, yet they all have one thing in common, a chosen occupation. My career incentives are not only to be financially successful but enjoy the personal happiness that comes from creating security for my family while helping the world locally and globally. As a college student I am trying to acquire the foresight to create the direction and drive needed to make my dreams a reality. Acutely aware that achieving my financial, familial and worldly goals requires as much information and knowledge as possible from training in and outside of classrooms, I want to take advantage of Columbia’s
I have thought of the chain of events regarding college since I was a young girl. I have thought of every way I could change my parents minds, breaking away from the community. I have come up with one conclusion, getting into an ivy league school. Ive decided that I need to work pass my limits, receive an A in every honors class, get into an ivy league college and only then my parents will let me go away for college. My mom used to say “If you get into Stanford, you can go to NYU” but once I thought about it more I realized, what kind of mother would deny her kid admission to Stanford University?
