Leaders set the ground rules for the behavior and performance of soldiers he or she is over. If they take liability for their achievements and their failures, it makes it easy for soldiers to admire and emulate. Moreover, it sets the morals and principles that are essential towards achieving accountability. Accountability promotes trust. In different situations, accountability means that one is ready to commit to something and be responsible enough to see it to the end. In such an event, one earns trust from the people around as they have established that one is trustworthy with a particular situation., accountability is an expression of integrity towards accounting for their actions if they fail to honor their commitment and work towards making the situation better. A reliable individual enjoys autonomy, confidence, and leeway to conduct one’s work. Accountability ensures performance by making sure all soldiers work towards a common goal. When one is answerable to their actions, it eliminates events of them engaging in behavior and activities detrimental to their jobs. When a squad leader listens and shows interest in soldiers’ performance, they are likely to appreciate and put effort in their work. Accountability saves time and finances. When soldiers in an organization are answerable and responsible for their actions, utilization of time and funds is adequately spent in among others, identifying solutions towards a challenge as opposed to trying to determine the problem. In this situation, accountability means that every soldier conducts their roles competently, and if a problem occurs, they raise it up instead of keeping quiet and letting it eventually create a bigger consequence. In conclusion, the building of accountability in an organization is crucial. Referring to ADP 1 chapter 2-17, “Army professionals are duty-bound to uphold their oath, embody the Soldier’s Creed and Army Civilian Creed, and instill the Army Values in themselves and others. This is our collective ethos – the moral principles that define our profession. The gentlemen in Sergeant Barnes’s platoon lacked the Army Values, which led them to lower standards. (Army Publishing Directorate, 2012) It is the responsibility of all soldiers to ensure that war crimes are being reported.
The idea of this is of course in the word leadership. The Army deems it imperative that a leader sets the pace and the example for his or her subordinates to follow. Accountability Is something that is very important and leader and superiors in the Military or in any job for that reason, for the simple fact that it is not only a requirement for you but also very important to your supervisors or chain of command depending on your situation. You can resort to accountability for many reason when it comes to daily productivity as a team or group. A Commander sustains an ethical command climate in war by establishing clear intent and purpose for their organization, accentuated through his vision. The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) and the Law of War are the military guidelines and penalties for soldiers to act accordingly. Distinctively, the majority of people know the difference between right and wrong. Command team (i.e. Commander and NCOs) are role models for the organization and set the example for their subordinates, which led to sustaining an ethical climate. Discipline organization exhibits high physical fitness, technical competence and successfully accomplish the mission.
This essay is about Accountability I did make formation so my NCO has given me a plam of action on the importance of Accountability. I was not at the correct place of duty for PT/Accountability formation at the correct time which is 0630 and each SM should arrive 10 minutes prior 0620. I had a Flat tire and I still arrived there was a miscommunication, granted on my half, there is still no excuse for me to miss a formation. To be accountable shows responsibility and I want to take responsiblity for my actions. The first plan of action I need to take is always making sure I am at the right place of duty at the right time or atleast 10 min prior which is practiced in the Military.
As a leader, we are obligated to be the prime example and enforce the Army Values and Warrior Ethos. Leaders should apply the army values and warrior ethos every day while on duty and off duty. Sometime as leader we do not notice that we apply in basic and big task. The army has place meaning for the army values and warrior. As leader we have different meaning what the army values and warrior ethos mean to us.
Now also for accountability in the Marine Corps is one of the highest things that are always being hit on. So in other words, being accountable may mean for you to be at a certain place at whatever time was given for you to be there. Next, another reason why accountability is important is because if you don’t keep track of your gear and you’re missing something when the time comes and you need that piece of gear that you were missing then you would be in a lot of trouble. All together being accountable is; well to the Marine Corps being called mission ready. That is why accountability in the Marine Corps is very or in greater words beyond important.

We all understand how to be a good Soldier. We must not only know those values, we must encompass them. As Dempsey says; (2010) “The Army Ethic begins with the moral values the Army defends” (p. 12). The Importance of Accountability in the U.S. Army Every living thing on Earth demands discipline and accountability, but when it comes to U.S. Army, soldiers are trained specifically in these subjects. There are extreme costs at risk if these principles are not held high by the Armed Forces. Most organized Armies focus on the importance of accountability and teach it in the very beginning stages of readiness. Accountability includes things such as showing up on time to safeguarding sensitive records, keeping account of resources to watching out for fellow soldiers. Almost everything can be tied back to the importance of accountability.
Another aspect to look at is the moral of the unit. Moral of soldiers must be intact to hold soldiers together in the harsh environments they may face. Soldiers are often asked to work for long hours in difficult situations. They are asked to deploy to foreign countries far from home and perform tasks many choose not to do. For a soldier and further a unit to succeed in these tasks their moral must remain high.
When a soldier and leader applies integrity into their day to day operation, they trust each other to do the right thing at all times. Honor plays also plays a major part in a soldier’s and leader’s work environment as well, that is just living up to the Army Values. Once they develop that habit they’re showing that they are honorable. An individual shows selfless service simply by put others before yourself. This is the mindset one must have especially on the battle field, because in that situation you are not fighting for yourself, you are fighting for the man or woman to the left or right of you so that they can make it home to their loved ones.
Leadership in the Army is the fundamental foundation of the organization. Leaders like Officers and Non- Commission Officers implement and set the standard of leader to soldiers. These leaders ensure the Army soldiers are trained and prepare for any hardships they face. The term Leadership can be defined differently based on the organization in which the term is applied to. In the Army Leadership can be described as a "characterized by a complex mix of organizational, situational, and mission demands on a leader who applies personal qualities, abilities, and experiences to exert influence on the organization, its people, the situation, and the unfolding mission" (ADP 6-22).
