Introduction Leadership is the art of empowering people around you to achieve a goal. As a leader I want to help others become leaders themselves. I firmly believe that by leading based on my values this will be accomplished. I have had many leadership influences throughout my career. Some of them showed me the way I wanted to someday lead and others showed me exactly how not to. Either way, both were influences. The people in my life that influenced me in a positive way always empowered me. They raised me up; they believed in my potential even when I could not see it for myself. I think the importance of showing others in the organization that they can depend on me no matter the situation, is a great way to build trust. I think it is important for people to know that my word is good and I back my word up with actions. By following through on my commitments I will build a trusted team where people know they matter and that they can count on me. Being dependable is of high importance; if people cannot depend on me, they will never truly trust me as a leader. Competency I believe competency is a vital value to leading an effective group. It is not enough to be dependable with my performance but I must also be successful in my ability. For me, competency comes from the capacity to acquire new knowledge and learn new ways of solving problems. However, just as import is the ability to understand areas that I can also improve upon in order to continue to help others. I believe by seeking others input on how my actions affect their performance would be a good place to start. I always want to think that I am influencing positive performance among people, but by asking, I am not only ensuring that this is so, I would also be continuing to keep a line on communication open among us. I am also a creature of habit. I tend to stay with what has worked in the past. Looking into this challenge, I can see how this would hinder my growth as a leader. Things around us are constantly changing and what has worked in the past may not be the best solution. I will start to explore and seek out challenging opportunities that I can learn from through testing my own skills and abilities. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, leadership is defined as "the power or ability to lead other people." In addition to this, leadership Is instructing a team with flexibility, hard work, inspiration. Leaders have equal importance in a team; they are neither above or below anyone. The role they play on the team is essential to achieving the task. Leadership means creating a blueprint of the steps needed and also including the input of others to improve the plan.
NCO Philosophy My leadership philosophy and style has been formed spanning a military career of over 9 years and from the morals and values instilled upon me by those with whom I have served and with those I currently serve. Through my years I have seen good and bad leaders. The common theme among good leaders is they treat people with dignity and respect.
I make sure I am always leading by example and maintaining a strong work ethic. The way I am currently influencing the performance of my colleagues in the Military Division is by consistently meeting my performance requirements every quarter, and continually assessing how I can coach others to do the same. I lead my military admission team by supporting and assisting team members that have worked in the organization for as little as 6 months and as long as 6 years. I also focus on how I can help the entire graduation team meet their goals with financial clearance and continuing student body requirements. A lot of people had influences in the choice I made when I came to Lyndon State college. They are two people who had the most influences. The first person is my mother, she was everything I had while growing up. The second person is my truter and translate. I didn’t speak English and I was introduced to Mohamed Ahmed when I started middle school.
Throughout my life, I have always felt a call to serve others. Whether in an athletic setting, academic classroom, or one of my many other pursuits, I often find myself taking on a leadership role. No matter what setting might be, I call upon certain leadership traits that have helped me be successful thus far in life. As a leader, I set goals that benefit the group in the long run while insuring that each individual reaches their full potential in best serving the group. Essentially for one to be a leader, you must be able to inspire others to want to do what needs to be done (Northouse, 2016). Leadership skills are essential in multiple areas of life, but it is especially important when one is trying to achieve change within an organization or in a community. Leaders can be found in either formal or informal positions such as those that are in management positions and organization. In the healthcare Industry, an organization focuses on meeting the needs of the patients for which they serve.

There are many different views and perceptions on leadership and what it exactly means. This is because there are many different types of leaders and many different views on them. But the basic meaning of leadership is an individual who can select the right group of followers and influence them through their distinct gifts, abilities, skills and knowledge. A leader focuses on the follower and puts out a roadmap to the overall mission and vision; hereby the follower is influenced to willingly and enthusiastically in achieving the mission and vision. The leader achieves this influence by humbly delivering a visionary perception of the future in clear terms that resonates with the follower in terms of their believes and values.

What does it mean to be a “good leader?” Leadership is easily defined: it is “the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improve organization.” However, a good leader is not so simple to put into words. In my opinion, a good, effective leader is someone who is competent in their job, intelligent, compassionate, has sound judgement and good morals, and is empathetic. They are not afraid to step up and take charge of a situation but are also willing to listen to others and be open to new ideas.
Leaders should accept their faults and weaknesses, if not they will look for ways to conceal their true-selves. Furthermore, according to Bill George, authentic leaders should encompass the following criteria; understanding their purpose, practicing solid values, leading with heart, and establishing connected relationships, demonstrating self-discipline (George 18). It is essential for a leader to understand their purpose of leading because it serves as a guide or direction towards the difference they want to make. When leaders clearly identify what they are working toward and the purpose behind it; they will then understand their present needs and know what steps need to be taken to reach their goals. Leaders should also practice solid values that represent their personal morals and character, such as integrity.
