Having been discovered in the late 1500’s the Natchez Indians are one of the most well known indian tribes in Mississippi. The mix of sheer size and famous landmarks such as the Emerald Hills had explained why they had such a big society. They also had a very distinct lifestyle and a very diverse community of families. Since they have a very distinct lifestyle and beliefs the Natchez have become one of the most documented tribes in Mississippi. Early encounters with the Natchez indians started in the late 1500’s with Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto. After the Natchez killed off De Soto’s men in the 1640’s they had an encounter with the Natchez and smoked a peace pipe. That had lasted for a few days. The soldiers wrote down their experience with the Natchez Indians, describing it as they stayed three days and each day was interesting. Men and women in the Natchez had different roles, the men had the role of being the warriors and killing animals for food. They also waged wars with other Indian tribes to show their dominance. The women had the role of taking care of the children. They also made meals for the men to eat by drying the meat of a buffalo, making beef jerky. The English had ended up burning 5 or 6 villages and destroying many cornfields. The mens next mission was to find the murderers of John Stone. Endicott’s and Gardiner’s men sailed out to where the Pequot tribe was. The English ended up running into the Pequot and they attempted to negotiate with them. The negotiating didn’t work out and the English ended up burning the village and killing a Pequot.

The Bannock tribe was a huge and important tribe with rich history and culture until the building of Fort Hall when the white settlers came, and that eventually led to their destruction. The history and the traditions of the Bannock tribe, which is where they were located, the food they ate, and the games they played like the relay races, is a huge part of who they are today. The Bannock’s lands were located in what is now known as Idaho, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and into Canada. Another part of the Bannock tribe was its neighbors the Shoshone tribe.
There are numerous ceremonies and celebrations that have been, and in some cases still are, observed by American Indian nations. The Green Corn Ceremony is one of these. Held annually, it is practiced among various Native American peoples and is related to the beginning of the corn harvest every year. The ceremony began as a first fruits rite in which the community would sacrifice the first of the green corn to certify that the rest of the crop would be efficacious. These Green Corn festivals were practiced widely throughout southern North America by many tribes of the Mississippian people and are still practiced today by many different Southeastern Woodland tribes.

During this journey De Soto is noted for meeting and sending Chief Tuscaloosa to his untimely death. Not only did Hernando De Soto and his crew kill Chief Tuscaloosa but they were known for conquering other natives in lust over their riches, such as gold and silver, not to mention their territory. The natives stood no chance against Hernando De Soto and his men, not only were the natives at a disadvantage technologically but the had been already injured socially and economically.

Native Americans have a really diverse culture and one report is not enough to talk about all of their cultures. They have fourteen tribes so it is obvious that they will have a lot of different cultures and traditions between all fourteen tribes. It is impossible to have fourteen tribes with different people and expect them to all believe in the same things so some of them have different beliefs and different traditions. They worshipped a lot of gods and even some of the gods had dolls made for them. Some tribes worshipped the sun or fire or some serpents.
