What is resilience? According to the American Psychological Association (APA), resilience is, “the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress”. There are many ways to show and build resilience one way is to find purpose. Instead of just sitting around and doing nothing, try and go out and help others. Maybe you can’t overcome your stress right now, but you can try and distract yourself by helping those around you.
Throughout the memoir, The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls recalls her family’s past and the struggle they went through. She inadvertently teaches the audience her meaning of resilience. But how is resilience defined? In short, resilience is the ability of a person to appreciate what life hands them instead of sulking upon it. The “Torrance Tornado” was destined for the Olympics. His career was abruptly stopped in 1940 when Adolf Hitler and his regime destroyed the Olympic stadium in Finland. With his dream diminished, he became a bombardier for the U.S. Army during World War II.
A person's ability to adapt to and overcome hardship is called resilience. It is known to be a set of abilities that may be learned and improved through practice and experience. It is a person's power to not get defeated by what life throws at them, but to use it as a chance for growth. The ability to handle the inevitable setbacks and obstacles that come our way is improved by developing resilience, which eventually results in a stronger sense of well-being and satisfaction in life. In my view resilience can sometime be brought on by an emotional event and helps you with self-confidence. In this story it shows how certain situations affect people in different ways and how each person goes through seven skills.
