You may or may not know who Meriwether Lewis is, but he has had a very important role in history, especially that of Louisiana, and the cause of death has been argued upon for years. He was a member of the state militia, he helped quell the Whiskey rebellion, a Pennsylvania uprising that was led against taxes, and he was a friend of Jefferson’s. Quite possibly his greatest achievements were governing Louisiana after the purchase, and the Lewis and Clark expedition. He had a major role in the Lewis and Clark expedition, which was to collect data of the plants, animals, and land forms he encountered. He had been picked by Jefferson to be the governor of Louisiana, he was travelling to DC at the time to have the government reimburse him for …show more content…
The physical evidence should be enough to blow your mind as to how obvious it was that it was a murder. Firstly I will explain the weapon that killed him, it was a gun known as a “Horse Pistol” which has force enough to blow through the skull of a horse completely, let alone a humans skull (sourced from a Ballistics Test). When the body was examined it was found that the bullet did not have an exit wound, so it is impossible that he would have killed himself because with the force of the pistol if he held a gun up to his head it …show more content…
Priscilla Grinder was supposedly in the house when he “committed suicide” so automatically everyone believed her crazy stories. One of the most suspicious things about her suicide claims was the fact that each time she told the story to someone she changed it (the following information will mostly be sourced from exhibit C: Priscilla Grinder). As I have said she told the story three times and each had parts that were changed but the few that stayed the same were that there were multiple gun shots and that she never actually saw it happen, so she didn’t even see what really happened so how could she be a reliable source. In one of the stories she said that after two shots were fired he said to “fetch him some water” and that the “deed was done”, and as I have concluded from the autopsy reports it is impossible that he would have been even been alive after just one of those shots, let alone talked, which proves that she really didn’t even know what happened. In another one of her retellings of the night Lewis died she claimed that after the shots were fired he crawled across the pavement, which as I said before is impossible because either shot would have killed him instantly. So obviously she can’t be a reliable in knowing if it was a murder or suicide considering she couldn’t even keep the story straight herself. There was also the matter of James Wilkinson,
There have been many people who have looked into the case of Karen Silkwood. One investigator had seen skid marks along with the incredulous dent in her back bumper. That indicated that another car had forced Silkwood into a culvert (“November 13, 1974). Considering the fact that they was evidence that there was another car many people said that is was indeed murder. Even Bill Silkwood,Karen Silkwood’s father, deducted that she was murdered exclaiming that he needed to learn who killed his daughter (Bashke 194).
Merriweather Lewis supposedly committed suicide at Grinder Inn when he was going to Washington carrying secret documents. But over the years, much more evidence has surfaced proving that in fact he did not kill himself and was murdered. Everything from the conflicting stories by Pricilla Grinder to the ballistics tests performed, it is clear that this was not in fact suicide and was murder by conspiracy. In a ballistics test conducted, it was proven that when Lewis was shot he would have died instantly and if he didn’t, he certainly would not have enough strength to cock the second gun and shoot himself a second time. The pistol that he used was nicknamed a “horse pistol” because it was strong enough to put down a horse with one shot through
Thomas Jefferson, the American President wanted to explore and discover the hidden treasures in the large Western parts of America that were inhabited by the local Indian tribes for centuries. Jefferson then hired his personal secretary, Meriwether Lewis to undertake the expedition, find new routes and discover the eco system in the region. He also wanted them to build better ties with the local tribes that would help foster trade. The expedition of Lewis and Clark faced many challenges, interacted with many new Native peoples and was an important milestone in American history. Lewis and Clark had many, many challenges.

Murder is a gruesome topic that everyone finds interesting. From unsolved cases to solved cases, people have looked up at least one. Who is the most prolific serial killer though? A man convicted of eleven murders is in the top five but is he the number one serial killer around? The man in question is Henry Lee Lucas.
The shots that were fired were too fast to just be one person because the bolt action rifle that was supposedly used couldn’t fire that fast even professional shooters that we tested couldn't do that and the shots that were fired came out in less than 10 seconds. The text says that there was also a police killing the same day too but the two eyewitness descriptions were
This proves that they do believe someone did kill him. While reaching for evidence I found” An unknown gunman in a white Cadillac shot him four times in the chest at a
Furthermore, the officer by the name of Robert Woods was later shot with a pistol giving us top-notch evidence that David Harris is, in fact, the killer. In addition, Randall reported that earlier that day David took
Thomas Jefferson’s Instructions to Meriwether Lewis discussed the appointment of Lewis as commander of the expedition, gave specific details of the purpose of the exploration, and provided directions for Lewis to follow when carrying out the trip. Thomas Jefferson carefully selected his personal secretary, Meriwether Lewis, to be the commander of the Expedition and trusted that he would be able to perform the tasks assigned to him. Jefferson requested that an abundant amount of precise notes be taken and that they be protected at all costs. He was interested in learning about the people occupying the land, their culture, the ecosystems, and the land. In addition to note taking, treating the Native Americans with respect and peace was important
In 1804, a new age was dawning; the economy was growing, and so was the United States. For the sake of westward expansion, President Jefferson bought the Louisiana Territory for the price of 15 million dollars, more than doubling the size of the United States. He then sent Meriwether Lewis, with his former military superior and chosen co-captain, William Clark, on an expedition into the West (Britannica). They and their team of over thirty men, the Corps of Discovery, set off with their goal not only to document their discoveries, but also to establish ties with native people, expand the American fur trade, and search for the Northwest Passage (Klepeis, 24). Along the way, the group faced countless dangers that put them at the risk of failure.
Lewis was also believed to have had depression or an anxiety disorder. Meriwether Lewis was an explorer, soldier, politician and public administrator. He was best known for his role as the leader of the Corps of Discovery, but he was also President Thomas Jefferson's private secretary. He was a member of the Virginia state militia, helped to quell the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794 and was also an army
Goals: On June 20th, 1803 Thomas Jefferson instructs Clark and Lewis on an expedition, to examine the Louisiana Purchase and establish trade threw Natives, explorer the Missouri river and learn about the natives. President Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase from the French people in 1803 in doing so he needed the land to be examined. The purchase given to him of this large mass of land west of the Mississippi River is one of the most important events in history. Thomas Jefferson’s next plan after making this massive purchase was to attempt another expedition to explore the territory.
Based on the evidence in the “Winston Peacock Case,” it is clear that Winston Peacock was murdered. First and foremost, in the crime scene photo, Mr. Peacock is shown laying on the ground with a pistol in his right hand and blood oozing out of his head. Typically, when a person dies one would drop whatever is in their hands and fall to the ground because there is no life in their body. In the crime scene photo, Mr. Peacock had a pistol directly beneath his right hand. It can be concluded from the given evidence that someone murdered Mr. Peacock and placed the gun under his hand to make it seem like Mr. Peacock committed suicide.
Later, it was reported that none of the witnesses were willing to talk about the murder or even go far as admitting that it had happened in their neighborhood. One witness states, “‘Oh, it’s you again’ and slammed the door” (Rosenthal). This statement deliberates that this woman was insouciant after the accident, as if the thought of her being the woman that could’ve been murdered did not cross her mind. The rules would’ve changed for her if she was the person on the death bed. She struggles to realize that it shouldn’t matter if she answers a few questions, maybe her answers would’ve helped investigate a bit more into who this woman was.
