National Honor Society is a program that teaches people how to live while exemplifying scholarship, leadership, service, and character to everyone around them. By being part of this program, I will do just those four qualities each and every opportunity possible. National Honor Society is not just a club you join throughout high school, it is an opportunity in which most people are not able to take part in. Accepting me into National Honor Society would be the best option for you as I bring all four qualities of scholarship, leadership, service, and character with me to the table. The definition of the word scholarship is academic study or achievement at a high level. This quality is one of the many in which I have qualified for in the acceptance process of National Honor Society. Maintaining a high grade point average throughout high school while learning at an accelerated level is an accomplishment you should be proud of. Because I currently attend the Academy of Sciences, I personally know what it is like to learn at a faster, higher level and the dedication and …show more content…
I portray leadership skills around school, extra-curricular activities, and work settings by being a role model and respectable example for those nearby. The extra-curricular activities that I am involved in mostly include sports. On both my soccer and softball teams, I was voted team captain because of the way I lead my team and my persistence to never give up. I always tell my teammates to make the best out of every situation and that they should never let the smallest inconvenience ruin their self-confidence. As for the work environment, I am a front end manager for the grocery store I am currently employed at. I have proven my leadership skills to my co-workers and my boss by taking responsibility and showing the effort that not everyone demonstrates at
My definition of leadership is earning the respect from the people that you lead and the people that lead you, showing empathy for other people’s problems, getting people to want to work for you, not micro managing, and showing, not saying that you care is so important. I believe that the results are much better if your subordinates follow you as a person and not your collar insignia. Expressing to your people that they are doing a great job and meeting all of your expectations goes a long way and just one simple compliment can make someone’s day. My leadership influences come from many people and situations throughout my career.
I was taught to work hard and never give up. Leadership is also a very important pillar in the National Honor Society. A leader is a person who guides others with their actions or words and influences others in a positive way. I feel that I am a leader in many ways. I participate in many different
I am very active in the classroom environment. I love to lead the groups and help organize when and what needs to be done in a project. I also help the group stay on task and help them when they need it. One final example of my leadership, is seen in the after school
It is an honor to be nominated for the National Honor Society. The fact that I was nominated proves to me that all of my hard work and dedication has not been for nothing. The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students who strive to achieve their best not only in school but in themselves and the community. I believe that I’m one of those students. Based upon my last two year at Matawan Regional I now have a 3.9 GPA and am ranked in the top 20% of my graduating class.
In addition, I have also acquired leadership skills through taking initiative by working independently with another employee to clean the store and stock products to successfully close the store in a timely manner. In addition, I demonstrated leadership abilities by being able to problem solve and delegate tasks while working with another team
As I went into high school, I started to see that I liked to be a leader. I could see in it simple things, such as how I would take charge of a team project so that everyone’s things were organized and task got done when they need to, or taking control and organizing a night out with friends. Having leadership skills is a challenging strength, I always want to make sure that things are handled right and everyone is treated fairly. This can be nerve-racking in situations when I am not the leader. Working in my father’s company, Leatherman Contractor, has helped me to develop my leadership skills.
I am a leader by example, knowledge, work ethics, and my willingness to assist when obstacle arise. My actions may not be seen by people of importance, but it’s witnessed by the only person that will continue to motivate me, myself.
One place I have developed leadership skills is in my academics. I am ranked number one of 205 students in
The first role I took on as a leader was in the “Louder Than A Bomb” Spoken Word Poetry Slam at Glen Hills Middle School. As a student at Glen Hills I participated in the Slam and thoroughly enjoyed the chance to freely express myself. When I came to Nicolet, I didn’t want to leave that experience behind so I returned to advise and assist and became co-president of the Slam. I have tactics in managing others and assisting them in staying focused and expressing their ideas in the most powerful way possible. This leadership role has showed me how to effectively teach others, but more importantly I have realized that a strong character is not dictated solely by leading, but by realizing there is always something to learn or gain from those around you.
Three leadership roles that I am most proud of being involved in include hosting the Special Olympics basketball program, being a part of the DRIVEN program, as well as assisting a cooking class taught for younger children from grades 3rd through 5th. First of all, I had the privilege of putting together the Special Olympic's basketball tournament. The Special Olympics basketball tournament lets many people of all ages with mental or physical disorders, come together to play the game of a sport they love. In order to put this event together, teams needed to be put together and invited to our school for the big games. Also, food was needed for the concessions stands so money was needed to be donated for the event as well as to purchase any food and drinks to sell.
My skills in leadership have allowed me to strive as an advisor for younger teens. Being a group leader has increased my ability to not only be a role model but a true friend. In fact, some of the teens test me time from time when they seek guidance in their life. One particular girl tested my abilites when she was experiencing a difficult time in her life. Her mom was diagnosed with cancer and her parents were always
Thru sports I have demonstrated my leadership skill and my athletic ability. I show my leadership by playing point guard on the basketball team. My job as the point guard is to space the floor, make sure we are playing as a team and to control the tempo. Also on the softball field I show my leadership by using communication. Communication is very important on the field because if two players are trying to catch a pop fly and they don’t communicate they will just run right into each other.
In clinical, there have been several times where I had to exhibit leadership. One particular situation in which I exhibited leadership was during my Adult Medical-Surgical clinical rotation about two years ago. During my Adult Medical-Surgical clinical
The most notable experience of my leadership came during a time of defeat for all of the club members of Boys to Men-Gents (BMG), the community service/stepping club. Since our previous leaders graduated this past year and had to leave us, the elected president was not fulfilling his role in any form, all of the members were doubting our capabilities as a team. I took the leadership role and directed all of the practices. I brought everyone together and even helped a few members through personal problems they were having at the time. The competition we were supposed to be preparing for the entire year was coming up, and we had only recently been practicing, because it took me quite a while to bring everyone together.
One example is in my positions as a lifeguard and coach at Hawks Landing Pool, I have participated in enforcing policies to patrons as well as creating learning opportunities for children. Another leadership position I learned from was being a member of the executive board of the Undergraduate Public Health Association at the University of Minnesota, I promoted public health in the community and delegated tasks to complete while organizing volunteer events. The leadership portrayed through these actions is the kind that has allowed me to widen my qualifications and given me the motivation to pursue leadership positions in organizations at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. These skills can be relayed in business professions of every
