Paragraph 1- Claim: I believe Odysseus should be nominated for the award because he has shown the qualities of a good leader and true hero. Odysseus has determination, high spirits, a creative mind, and motivation. I say he deserve it because he has shown that he can and will overcome any challenge or obstacles the gods or any man may throw at him
Paragraph 2 – First I want to mention about Odysseus will and determination to get his men and himself home in "The cyclops" as he tries to overcome and escape from the massive beast that claims his men constantly. I am showed in the book how Odysseus curiosity has endangered the lives of him and his men because while exploring the lands they have came across a cyclops that is devouring his men little by little and Odysseus and his men plan escape. These core traits he has have been guiding him and his men through this rough and ragged journey wither it's from escaping cyclopes, raiding the coronas, or battling monsters of the sea. He knows how to motivate his men and show them even in fear if they work together they could all get home. I know this because is each story I am shown that Odysseus wants to see him and his men home safely. A example of his leadership is when they were on the cyclopes island after disabling the eye of the cyclopes they hid in the sheep's wool to sneak by
Odysseus and the Twenty-Year Battle The Odyssey is an epic poem written by Homer. It is a about a classic, mythological hero named Odysseus, that is forced to fight in the ten-year Trojan War. He must leave behind his wife, Penelope, his son, Telemachus, and his kingdom in Ithaca. After fighting in the ten-year battle, the reader learns that there is another ten years of struggle just to return back home.
The poem, The Odyssey, has held up as a monument of literature throughout the ages, and for reason. It is an exciting story about the adventures of Odysseus, an intelligent, cunning, at times manipulative, sailor who defeats the city of Troy. After some decade long twists and turns, he returns home, disguised, kills a few dozen people who have been eating his food and drinking his wine. After it seems like the cycle of violence will never stop, Athena comes down and restores peace.
In Homer’s The Odyssey Odysseus goes on a journey to get back home from war. Along the way he goes through monsters, challenges, and obstacles that he has to face to make it back to reach his goal in the end. He has difficulties that change him as a person and how he reacts to events and points. This relates to me because even though both of our lives are different we have similarities.
He is given the best instructions and the perfect weapons to combat every enemy that approaches him, and is given a magnetic wand that always attracts his team to follow him onto the destined path. Odysseus is a leader with the mind of a god, the direction and the foundation of the crew, and the very thing that makes his men function as a
Secondly, Odysseus in all his journeys, in my opinion has been larger than life. Surviving way too many times, has faced way to many difficulties, and he is still intact. An idiosyncratic part of Odysseus’ image is bravery, but he shouldn’t use it as a panacea all the time. He shows strong leadership and more nobility throughout the story than most men. An example of that is when he lead them through book 9 when he got his men out of the cave and got out of the island I would like to add that he which meant he still made sure his men are secure resulting in him looking very responsible and is really a true leader.
He continues to believe in Ithaca and dreams of his queen and never loses sight of his goal despite the years and many distractions. Odysseus takes risks, an example of this is in book IX, when he enters the Cyclopes cave not knowing what’s inside. He does many things throughout the epic that seem to lack judgement, but later show he always had it under control. Another quality that supports Odysseus being a hero is that he is blessed by a god, meaning they notice something great or godlike in him. Lastly the most important aspect of his heroism is that he isn’t a textbook hero, unlike Hercules, Odysseus embraces his flaws and mortality which makes him stronger.
The first trait is that he is a very arrogant person and this often puts him and his men in danger. Secondly, Odysseus can be deceitful and not fully communicate the facts of each situation. Odysseus was a weak leader and his lack of vision in not seeing the strength and possibilities in his men combined with his inability to effectively communicate to those around him ultimately led to his failure of not being able to safely deliver his men back to Ithaca. The story of the Cyclops in Homer 's The Odyssey illustrated how Odysseus '
Perhaps Odysseus’ most present characteristic is his bravery. He possesses tremendous courage which may possibly be considered to be a flaw. Simply embarking on this journey took a lot of guts. He did not know when or if he would return home. And then he continued to fight and fight hard.
When Odysseus commands his men to go back to sea to voyage, he is a good leader because he is telling his men what to do. He is being a leader by protecting his men from the Ciccone 's army by leaving before reinforcements come. For example, when Odysseus and his men are heading to the sirens Odysseus states “you are to tie me up, tight as a splint” (Homer 1005). Odysseus is an admirable leader when he orders his men to tie him up and do not untie him because he is sacrificing himself for the good of his men. He is a leader when he does this because he lets his men not suffer the sirens while he has to.
Odyssey Argumentative Essay The Odyssey is an epic by Homer. It is a story about Odysseus journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War. All the Greek heroes had returned home after the Trojan War except for Odysseus who was an important hero in Ithaca. Odysseus was absent in his son’s life and Telemachus decided that, it was time to find his father and bring him back home to his wife Penelope.
Homer delivers very universal themes, such as loyalty is respected, but the epic also provides meaningful themes that are not as recognizable. The Odyssey is very focused on leadership and courage, as it centers on a hero's journey. There are many parts in the epic where Homer explains the actions of an admirable leader. In the Odyssey, Odysseus exemplifies the true meaning of being a leader through courage in the face of danger, which is shown by Circe, the Sirens, and the suitors. One might wonder why it takes Odysseus ten years to return to his homeland after he has achieved victory for Ithaca in the Trojan War.
Another trait is leadership, as he ordered his crew so that they can go home safely. Also, self-restraint is important because they couldn't rush through the dark deep sea. When Odysseus arrives back in Ithaca, the trait he displayed that was necessary for survival through the rest of his journey was courage. For example, when Odysseus plans to
It exhibits that he is human and can relate to his crew. Realizing his mistakes also shows his intelligence and his will to keep going shows perseverance. In final analysis Odysseus’ impeccable leadership qualities overwhelmingly
In the book The Odyssey, the main character, Odysseus, is a man who is loved and respected by many. In the beginning of the book, we learn that Odysseus has left on a journey and, since it has been many years since his departure, many people assume that he has passed. On his journey, he portrays his many traits, not all of them being good ones either. Some of his good traits include his cunning, bravery, and hard work ethic. On the other hand, his negative traits are his excessive pride, immense curiosity, and rather large temper.
1. Oedipus is a hero, but he represents most men at the same time. He has human characteristics and feelings, such as his curiosity towards the knowledge Teiresias possesses and his horror when he realizes his horrible actions. “If you know something about our pain tell us…Speak then! Tell us what will emerge.”
