Osteopathic medicine is a type of medical practice which focuses on enhancing the body’s ability to heal itself. An Osteopath, also called a D.O or Doctor of Osteopathic medicine puts an emphasis on preventative medicine. This type of doctor additionally believes that all systems in the body work together to repair the body. Just like medical doctors, they are skilled, and licensed to prescribe medicine and do surgeries. They can also practice any medical specialty they select.

It affects many areas of your body and makes it stronger as a whole. Multivitamins capsule contains different type of vitamins, which act on different organs and systems in our body. They help us enhance how our organs by giving them what they need to function best. This is similar to the osteopathic practice, because even if you have pain in a specific area, the osteopaths will not just treat that specific spot, they will take care of the whole body.
Osteopathic is not allopathic medicine, though it is very similar to it. Allopathic medicine is practiced by medical doctors (MDs) and we are more familiar with MDs because there are many of them and they have existed the longest. Allopathic doctors rely more on drugs to heal the body and focus on the disease or organ that is not working properly instead of the entire human body.
The pathway to become a DO is very similar to M. D’s, they both have to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and go through four years of medical school. In medical school they take the same classes and learn the same things, but DOs have to learn and practice 200 hours of osteopathic manipulative techniques. At the end of medical school, both types of physicians take a board exam to become licensed. M. Ds take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and DOs take the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX). After passing their exams they complete
