My Personal Mission Statement Before I can develop my mission statement, I need to define what a mission statement is. A mission statement is “A written-down reason for being…focused on the practice of what you need to be doing.”(Chritton, S., n.d). It is the reason why you are doing something. A well written and well thought out mission statement will “provide clarity and gives you a sense of purpose. It defines who you are and how you will live.” (Mission Statements., 2017). Some examples of well thought out mission statements are “ To spread the power of optimism", “Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.", and “ Question Assumptions. Think Deeply. Iterate as a Lifestyle. Details, Details. The design is Everywhere. Integrity."(Kolowich, L., 2017). When looking online for ideas on how to develop a mission statement, I found that it is recommended to do the following; determine a purpose, clarify your aptitudes, define specific goals (Davenport, B., 2018), identify core values, identify contributions (Andrews, A., 2017), keep it short, and it’s OK to make changes(Hansen, R., PhD, 2017).
